Blood is the new drama from the creators of Good Doctor, starring rookie Ahn Jae-hyun (You’re All Surrounded) in his first leading role. He plays a vampire who suppresses his cravings for blood in order to treat terminally ill patients at a cancer hospital, a character described as warm and sensitive. He’s a genius, and does the job no matter how hard it is for him, because he understands the sanctity of life better than anyone.

Gu Hye-sun (Angel Eyes) plays a hotshot heiress doctor, a star physician at the hospital and the niece of the board’s chairman. She’s snooty and cold, but highly capable, and used to being the golden girl. Ji Jin-hee (Warm Words) co-stars as their chief, an outwardly gentle, inwardly ambitious man who will prove to be their biggest adversary. Kwon Hyun-sang (Mandate of Heaven) is a rival bad vamp, and Jung Hae-in (Three Musketeers) plays the hero’s BFF.

Blood follows Healer on Mondays and Tuesdays, and premieres February 16.

Everything about this seems like an absolute mess

Possibly very shitty medical drama but his beauty might pull it through for at least half the season. I can't say much since I watched 19 out of 20 Dr.Stranger episodes.

So basically this is "Good Doctor" with some blood sucking thrown in for the lols? This is funny and sad. So, so sad that anyone would green light such a banal premise and cast list.

Is it to much to ask to have a show where they vampires actually like being vampires....and aren't starving to some sort of humanity. They're a vampire and they just do them.

I also feel like SK doesn't have a good track record for Vampire stuff...hell not much of a good track record for horror that doesn't have to do with a ghost or a curse...or something. Tho The Host was ok, but that was more Sci fi....

The Host? You mean the monster story where he kidnap the two kids? Seriously, that movie is one of the highest grossing kmovie ever but I just didnt like it AT ALL. I hate that by the time the movie ended, the lead guy (Song Kangho) is still a bum and nothing change at all..

that's the point of it though, it's a criticism on how the government will do jack shit for victims if they're poor civilians

Oh really? I watched it when it first come out and didnt think at all that there a message behind the movie. Now I'm not mad anymore. :D

yeah bong joon ho takes his symbolism seriously lulz

the beginning scene on how the monster is created (american scientists ignoring safety hazard law cuz he's doing shit at korea not us), american scientists blatantly talking in english about making up the fictional virus in song gang ho's body for the sake of having something to say in front of news, us butting in to kill the monster with agency yellow (parody of agent orange in vietnam war) - there was a lot of anti-american sentiments criticizing usa being too involved in sk politics and issues for their benefits.

there's also the criticism on the korean government where they pay no attention to song and his family and their plea to look for their daughter in the sewer and when they try to take things into their account the government makes them the criminals - they put aside the fact that they're also victims and go far as to shoot the grandpa because they were breaching the security.

it's a very nice film actually, and when the sewol ferry happened it was really upsetting and startling because the way everything played out, how the government pretended to do stuff but not really and point the sewol victims' parents as some rebels who are causing disturbance to the national peace (this is all still ongoing) - bong serves as a perfect commentary to an event that happened seven years after it was made.

Thank you for this! I think I will enjoy the movie more now since I finally being able to understand the message behind it. I remember going mad after the movie ended since it seemed to have no point and wondered until now why it is so popular. Now I finally understand it.

I sometimes rewatched back old movies and I always find myself enjoy the movies more now that I already mature/grown up. I used to find Notting Hill boring but when I watched it back a few years ago, it has become my fave romcom ever. :DD

watch a Tale of Two Sisters and then get back to me about how lame korea's horror movies are. (that movie will fuck u up tbh. esp the ending.)

I found a tale of two sisters a bit slow to be honest, by the time they got to the twist I didn't care. but I really love the not very well known movie Hansel and Gretel, also deathbell is fun. You can't rule out or in an entire genre of film based on like 1 or 2 movie.....unless it's westerns those things are all dumb as hell.

Oh the only western movie I'll actually sit down and watch is blazing saddles, but that's mostly because I'm a sucker for a Mel Brooks movie.

I already know how that ends. I just used The Host as an example since the only supernatural show that I've seen from SK was Vampire Idol.....and yeah....that wasn't meant to be taken seriously anyway. But I was mostly meaning their TV shows, not so much the movies.

the host isn't a horror movie nor a vampire stuff tho

From: [identity profile] jrt131n.livejournal.com
I know that. I just meant that I haven't seen sk handle the vampire genre well. They follow crap like twilight. I just want to see something else. The host was merely used as an example. I should have used that kdrama about the lawyer who was a vampire.

have you seen thirst? it's also with song gang ho and i haven't seen it yet myself and it's like, the only park chan wook film that flopped but it looks like it's pretty decent. it's about a catholic priest who turns into a vampire.

edit: oop it didn't flop it just seems like it compared to other song gang ho's filmography; it also won the jury prize at cannes

OP maybe you should add this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzrEt-6_lQk) (I can't find a higher quality one atm)
So much twilight realness with the running through the woods and the deer scene.

Maybe I'll give the first episode a go for you Ahn Jae Hyun but it'll be a miracle if I finish this drama.

The drama probably will have a good script since its from the same creator as Good Doctor (super boring drama but award winning with lots of praise from critics) but this drama going to suffer greatly since they cast a newbie as the lead. I watched Ahn Jaehyun acts and although he makes me squeal, he really cant act. I love surprises but I dont think he gonna surprise us with his acting here -- his facial expression probably going to be funny and I might laugh instead.

IDK what happened to me but I'm on hiatus from watching Kdramas atm. I still love it and i know I have to catch up with lots of good dramas rn like Punch or Healer or Jisung with eyeliner hoho but I'm rewatching One Tree Hill now and I cant stop. God I remember how I used to love the series so much.

with Gu Hye Sun as someone cold....her bad acting could work for her in this role....at least for a while until her character gains "warmth"

the sad thing is, if u change it from a hospital setting (or minimize it or smth) and had better casting, this could have actually been rly good. or failing that, worth watching for the cast. (like srsly tho, why the fuck would a vampire of all the things choose to be a surgeon for cancer patients???? like unless it was to steal their blood or smth knowing that it would be less likely to attract attention since they are already at a high risk of dying ne way. but then again that def wouldnt be a heroic character would it? lol)

Maybe he was an oncologist who got turned into a vampire, and instead of changing careers or taking a consultancy position, he decided to keep on trucking? Lol either way the premise is pretty ridiculous

lmao this was the drama I was so giddy about when they first announced Yoo Yeon Seok being cast as the lead (even tho I knew it has hot mess material) and I was broken hearted when he declined it (no drama soon dammit :(( )

and here's another trailer :

I think I just made peace with the fact that YYS declined the show by watching these trailers
