Amber Fails Physical Test For “Real Men” Due to Her Oversized Tattoo

On January 25, MBC’s variety program “Real Men” aired the second special of female soldiers, staring Kim Ji Young, Lee Ji Ae, Kang Ye Won, Lee Da Hee, Ahn Young Mi, Yoon Bomi, and Amber. Today’s episode showed how the members were entering training school.

Everyone measured their height and weight, checking their health for the physical test. After finishing their eye test, the members were interviewed by the army surgeon.

When asked, “Do you have any tattoos on your body?” Amber responded that she has a tattoo on her back and arm, as she lifted her sleeve to reveal the tattoo on her arm.

“You have failed to pass the physical test because the tattoo is over 7 centimeters long. I will have to discuss the matter with the battalion commander,” the army surgeon replied after measuring the tattoo.

The members’ acceptance will be determined through the scores of both their physical test and interview.

They also released a clip of them getting their heights and weights checked and I was kinda pissed at their reactions like....you /know/ you ain't weigh no 45kg so don't even act like...ugh

Wondering how having a tattoo will affect your physical abilities. Imagine if that was the rule here in the US. The majority of the military people I know have some sort of tattoo and they're usually a good size

There are regulations for the US military, you aren't supposed to have tattoos below your wrist unless it's religious. Unless it's changed in the last several years.

The wording is confusing saying it was a part of the physical test, but it is not uncommon to be disqualified for tattoos.

US military has tattoo restrictions as well.

You can, if they think you are a gangster, but since tattoos are nowadays fairly common it's not automatic exemption any more.

It has come up in discussion before that maybe some idols get heavily tatted to avoid service but it doesn't seem to work because I haven't seen anyone get disqualified from going based just on tatts.

Why are some people so surprised by the fact that the (Korean) military doesn't accept tattoos? C'mon in my country even the police force can't have tattoos unless it's not really visible e.g on the back. My friend had to get rid of her forearm tattoo in order to join the police academy.
