Hong Sisters to return to TV after four years; reportedly working on brand new drama

The Hong Sisters (Hong Mi Ran and Hong Jung Eun), the drama screenwriting team behind “Master’s Sun,” “Greatest Love,” “Big,” “My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho,” and “You’re Beautiful,” will be returning to MBC for the first time in four years with a new drama.

A source from MBC commented, “There is no concrete synopsis yet. Who gets casted for a Hong Sisters’ project is a hot issue between actors and agencies.”

This upcoming drama will be the Hong Sisters’ first MBC drama in four years. Their last project with MBC, “Greatest Love,” was a huge hit, so there is high anticipation for this one, especially as they will be reuniting with the director of “Greatest Love,” Park Hong Kyun.

The Hong sisters have not had any other projects with MBC since their 2011 hit The Greatest Love. However, the screenwriting team has garnered a large fan base following the success of KBS’s Big starring Lee Min Jung and Gong Yoo and their most recent drama The Master’s Sun starring Gong Hyo Jin and So Ji Sub.

yes she is rumored for the lead and I did like her in Sunny but Dream High 2 ruined her for me forever I can't even bring myself to watch Misaeng because of her and I really don't want her to ruin a hong drama for me

I know, there's like three series of theirs that I'm only half-way through because of that (I've been stalled on You're Beautiful for years); My Girl in particular was a reeeeaaalll struggle because of those angsty/makjang-y tendencies of the second half, tho I did manage to finish it.

I always give the Hong Sister's dramas a shot but I always end up dropping them. I think the only one I've finished is Big, and I still was disappointed, even Gong Yoo couldn't save it.

Big was such a waste of Gong Yoo's talents. Only Hong sisters drama I dropped after 2 or 3 episodes.

Big is their only drama that I have not watched and will never watch lol. Other that one though, their other dramas have been pretty good. I think my fave is still greatest love. Master's Sun was good too and the chemistry b/w gong hyo jin and so ji sub was HOT!

But like someone said, I'm going to wait to see the premise and the cast before deciding if I'm in. Hoping for the best!

Oddly, I liked Big (well, not the way the direction went in the last couple of episodes) even though I know it was badly written. I just enjoyed the drama a lot...probably more so than all the other dramas I've seen written by the Hong sisters.

hong sisters' most famous works - the greatest love and master's sun are blatantly ripped off from a romance novel and a slash fiction - they even used the same names for the lead characters. nothing came out of it though because it's really hard to do a plagiarism lawsuit over a drama, and especially when it's already over and your work's been violated but they have a shit ton of fans ready to defend the drama and the general public not really interested.
i felt really bad for the slash fic writer because she said since she's writing stuff that's not really for the mainstream audience she doesn't want to risk the anonymity and pursue a lawsuit, even though it was clear that they copied her works. there are actually several cases like that where fanfics are plagiarized in dramas and stuff (49 days was basically this really well-known shinhwa fanfic just with male and female leads replaced) but since the general public looks down on male-male slash fics they can't speak up.

so seeing that hong sisters' track record is either plagiarized shit vs big, i have no faith in their work.

I find Hong Sister's works to be overhyped and banal. I always end up skimming them...well except for BIG which was a big mess and I dropped after episode 4. That being said, if they were to cast Kang Sora and Kim Soo Hyun, I would so be there for that.
