Article: [Exclusive] Student 'Kim', note saying he plans to join the IS found in his room

Source: YTN via Naver

Investigations found:

- Kim was in contact with an IS member named Hassan through 'Sure Spot'. Two phone calls to the man were recorded once he arrived in Turkey.

- 65 websites and news articles related to Turkey and the IS were found in his Internet bookmarks.

- He posted to two friends on Facebook that he wanted to leave his family and country to join the IS.

- Out of his 3,020 internet searches on the week before his leave, 517 of them were related to IS, Turkey, Syria, and Islam.

- 47 pictures of Muslim women were also saved in his computer.

1. [+22,035, -748] I'm against bringing him back to Korea. He can commit acts of terrorism in our own country, why bring him back? I'm sorry to his family but I think they need to give up on their son at this point.

2. [+17,540, -467] He's no longer a Korean citizen, he's just a terrorist.

3. [+13,189, -1,656] Wow... I feel so bad for his family.

4. [+11,253, -351] Unfortunate that he made such a decision

5. [+2,055, -61] He's obviously a psycho. With that psycho mentality, I hope he succeeds in slitting the throat of whoever's leading him.

6. [+2,118, -276] His parents are partially at blame here. The kid obviously has a lot more problems than this is letting on. They catered to his every whim, no wonder he knew he could get his way. He didn't want to go to school anymore so they pull him out to homeschool him right away ㅋㅋ He obviously grew up with no social skills. Read in another article that he even threatened to commit suicide if they didn't let him go to Turkey. The parents aren't even complying with investigations because they still believe their son is innocent and that he'd never join a terrorist organization. The police need a recording of his phone call with his younger brother but his parents are refusing. Tsk tsk.

7. [+1,495, -74] So he dropped out of junior high... and learned English on his own and somehow managed to join a terrorist organization. If he only used his smarts to do something better with his life, he would've been so successful. tsk tsk.

8. [+987, -25] Shouldn't they release his face at this point. He might sneak back into the country, who knows when he'll commit acts of terrorism.

9. [+677, -24] Let me just bring attention to the fact that he had 47 pictures of Muslim women saved. Well there's our reason for him joining the IS. He wanted to get married over there.

10. [+639, -13] He left his family and country looking to start a new life as a meat shield.

1. [+1,288, -32] Does he have no consideration for his family at all? If it's true that he joined the IS, please don't let him back to Korea.

2. [+1,210, -27] Heard that the IS recently killed 100 foreigners who tried to escape the IS... I wonder if he can even return at this point. How immature of him.

3. [+1,030, -23] He has no chance of coming back anymore. The IS would never let him go easily.

4. [+914, -29] He gives up his life to bring shame to his family and become a terrorist. What did your parents do to deserve this?

5. [+835, -78] If you're going to come back to Korea, come back dead. It will be upsetting for your parents but it's for the safety of the country and the last good thing you can do for your parents.

Sometimes it would be nice to have the full word, at least once, because I Googled IS and I had a hard time before finding it stands for Islamic state. Even with an English sentence I didn't find it right away because it means different things. Anyway it's not to blame you OP, it's juste in general ;)

That's not surprising. It's just the way they do. They use internet as propaganda and tell them they will live a good life surrounded by women. It's strange that he is from Korea but his profile suits others who went there. If netizens are right he has school issues (sometimes it's family issues), he feels out of place and is looking for a reason to live. I don't know if it sounds ok in English but like he wants to be usefull. And apparently he was good at English so he could have found any web site easily. Internet is their best propaganda.

there's also reports that he wrote on his profile that he "hates feminists" and that's why he wanted to join isis

and it makes me really sad because he's like, 16, and there's so much anti-women sentiment on the internet that makes kids like him think feminism is bad and somehow men are being discriminated - not just korea, but really everywhere as evidenced by subreddits like mra and theredpill or something
and they don't teach stuff like this in school, they don't talk about the inherent sexism and male previlege how it still exists and pervades our thinking so these kids go to the internet to absorb more hate.

seriously, hating feminists? like what the fuck is wrong with wanting equal rights among men and women, why are there assholes who try to (and successfully) make it more than that, into some twisted ideology that would castrate men and put women on top?

i'm really upset at this because he's crossed the point of no return and it's for the best that he stays there to meet his eventual fate, but i pity him so much as well as the state of mind that's prevalent in many boys like him.

Ugh, I know. It really upsets and worries me...occasionally it just flat-out angers me, especially when TRP guys spout nonsense about how enlightened and intelligent they are compared to everyone else but they're really just perpetuating nonsense and hate and commit logical fallacies all over the shop; if a young man feels left out because he's more intelligent (or perceives himself to be) than others and shuts himself in his room with only the Internet for company, failing to interact with real women and seeing how they're individuals, generally intelligent and hardworking and not too different from men, it's a bad road.

I know it's not as harmful as some of the other stuff, but the stereotyping of how every woman is the same because of her 'hypergamous nature' (lol ok) is sooo annoying...I had some TRP guys pile on me and circle-jerk about how I was obviously with my significantly shorter boyfriend because I want to steal his money...bitch, I felt guilty even taking money from my parents as a teen. I have a degree from one of the best unis in the world, I work damn hard, and I'm in love with my boyfriend, who isn't exactly raking in the dough anyway. But no, women can't love (they actually say this) and fall all over themselves for bad guys and blah blah blah. K, bros.

ETA: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-30803039 I fear things like this could be the endgame if a guy who has the trifecta of being lonely, different and potentially mentally ill finds the incendiary and dangerous rhetoric these guys spout. At least we don't have guns so he couldn't do a full-on Elliot Rodger :( I wish we were past entitled little pricks blaming women for everything and feeling they're owed beautiful women (treating us like objects who should always look beautiful, never speak out, always give men sex but God forbid always giving men sex even because you slut (???), and who shouldn't bother ever trying to make anything of themselves because they'll never have their achievements celebrated by men who think they're nothing if they're not beautiful) but it often feels like it's getting worse :/ I often have to get off the Internet and go hang out with my boyfriend, Dad or guy friends or I start to fear and dislike men. But what of these guys who read all this hateful stuff on women and don't then go out until the real world and mix with women? I've seen way too many guys who just can't accept women as humans and it scares me.

Sorry for the rant, I have the flu right now and I've been online too much the last few days, bad combination ;)

i never realized how alive and well misogyny still was until i started going on internet forums and i think it gets worse every year honestly. i agree with you and feel like society is failing young men, but i also cant bring myself to pity men who channel their fear of women into...hatred of women.

Mte to all of your comment.
Also on US Slate they had an article linking spree killers and violence against women. I need to find it against, but they were saying that, statistically, most of those men had violent actions against women (from online harassment to murder) and that it has nothing to do with class or race- just, society in a whole.
I think it's time for the society to acknowledge how those behaviours are dangerous for all and act consequently

Have you seen any ISIS propaganda videos? Their targets are anyone whose insecurities make them vulnerable to manipulation - usually young men with anger issues, who feel like they're outcasts, and who want to be heroes. This is why it's been so successful at recruiting young Muslims from Europe, who regularly face racism, who already start out disadvantaged in life because who they are or who their families are, who have built up enough resentment against the world to want to destroy it.

There's also a lot of ISIS videos that play up the hero angle - the guns, the women, which I suspect attracts not just Muslims but all alienated young men in general. they make it look like it's a video game, like it's Call of Duty or something, but it's real life.

I also think it has a lot to do with racism. I don't know how muslims are seen in other european countries, but they have like the worst reputation in my country, especially if they're turkish. The Charlie Hebdo case didn't help their reputation either.

Of course racism is one of the reason why they feel out of society but a lot of Europeans going there are not from Muslim families. That's a fact. And converted people to a new religion are often the most extremist.
And even when they are from a Muslim family, they always have personal issues. The brothers who went to Charlie hebdo office didn't have their parents. We don't know if they died or if they left but it's their sister who took care of them. The guy who went to a Jewish school and killed children in 2012 suffered from his parents' divorce. Of course it's not an excuse (some of their siblings are integrated in the society) but they all have this common goal which is to feel usefull. They all think they gonna save children and be heroes.
