JAWI (Federal Territories Islamic Department) decided to drop the arrest warrants against the Muslim fan girls who joined the stage with B1A4 during a performance in Malaysia.

JAWI had told the fan girls they would be imprisoned and/or fined up to 1,000 RM if they failed to show up to the office and give statements about their behavior on stage. In the end, however, the department decided not to charge the girls with arrest warrants.

“Rather than penalizing them, we must counsel these young fan girls,” advocated Ahmad Syaberi, Minister of Communications. “Followers of the Muslim faith are leaders, not judges to punish people.”

The re-enactment of scenes from the drama, “The Heirs,” during a fan meeting with B1A4, showed fan girls being hugged and kissed on the forehead by the idol group. The fan meeting stirred a huge controversy among the Muslim faith because the kiss to the forehead was on her hijab, a sacred piece of their religion.

An official from the WM Entertainment told Star News, “The fan girls were specifically told what would happen on stage, and they had agreed to those terms. We are sorry to see how events unfolded through this incident, and we will do our utmost to see that fans aren’t negatively affected by this incident.”

Yeah...I've never looked in depth on Islam but I thought all these super conservative beliefs were cultural and not something ingrained in the religious teachings. I thought the 5 pillars were all there pretty much is to it...call me out if I'm being an ignoramus guys :U

I'm so glad to hear this. I don't know how likely it was for the warrants to have been seen through but can you imagine how the girls must have felt? One minute they're on cloud nine, interacting with their idols, then they're being hounded for doing something they didn't think was wrong or a big deal...I hope they're left in peace...

More like criticism by the people, it's bad move from them when people are seeing them as nuisance and history of misusing power. The ministry probably asked them to shut the case down.

perhaps the criticism of the government cherry picking pressured them into dropping the warrants? Well whatever the reason, it's good these warrants were dropped.

I'm very happy they dropped the warrants, but I still don't understand how this became as big as it is.

Would they even have a legal case if they hadn't dropped the warrants? How often do these kinds of cases go to court in Malaysia?

It's good they dropped the charges but sadly this follow-up isn't going to get as much attention as the original articles :(

No they don't have a legal case, it's a case of overreach as usual. Even if the warrants hadn't been dropped, the most those girls would have gotten was counseling and maybe a small fine. Jail time? No way. Religious authorities legal powers in Malaysia are generally limited to family laws and inheritance, though they do play moral police and conduct raids on Muslims drinking in nightclubs, couples having pre-marital sex, or committing adultery, that sort of thing. But again, the heaviest punishment is usually a fine, counseling and a whole lot of embarrassment for the family.

Thanks for answering...I thought it might be something like that but I wasn't sure.

I hope the girls know they were just pawns in some gross moral power play.

So glad it was dropped!
Although kissing the hijab vs. kissing the forehead, don't know which one would have been perceived as more severe of an offense.

http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia/article/jawi-says-toothless-against-girls-in-k-pop-controversy

this says that it's not so much that they chose not to do anything, but that they didn't have any legal basis to do anything unless the girls handed themselves in

absolute right thing to do. like as a muslim myself, this whole thing was such a joke. if those girls didn't think it was wrong or a big deal, then no one has the right to judge or penalize them for what happened. I don't know how the hijab culture is in Malaysia (and again, a lot of the things that people criticize about "Islam" are actually cultural practices or traditions) but I would imagine the controversy was less about the fact that he kissed her scarf and more about the fact that he kissed her at all, as some are very conservative with physical proximity. regardless, I'm glad the government recognized that one way or the other and dropped the whole thing. now I'll just go back to being jealous about the hug she got *__*

glad they dropped it. i was worried if they do go through with it. i heard they will get counseling.. at least thats okay, rather than jail time, that could hurt their future...

anyway i am mostly glad people dont bring this up anymore and the anti-kpop tweets has calmed down.

This was so ridiculous, like, how could this "charge" even be countenanced in the first place?
