Kahi leaves Pledis, no one is surprised

Kahi, ex-member of After School, will be leaving her managing agency, Pledis Entertainment.

On January 19, she posted on Twitter, “It’s the sixth anniversary of After School, as well as the time for me to leave this managing agency.”

She showed her gratitude towards her agency by saying, “Thank you Pledis, for taking me in, even when I wasn’t ready, and helping my dreams come true. I will be working my hardest to become better, wherever I may be.”

A Pledis representative said, “It is true that our contract with Kahi has expired. Both sides decided to part since she has a field that she wants to focus on.”

Kahi made her debut as the leader of After School in 2009. After graduating from After School in June 2012, she came back as a solo artist with the studio album “Who Are You?” Afterwards, she has been exploring the musical fields by starring in acts such as “Bonnie and Clyde” and “All Shook Up.”

She's very Nicole Scherzinger in the fact that she has no real success outside of the group where she had most of the lines. It's kinda sad cuz as douchey as she seems to be sometimes, I think she's pretty talented. But pledis sucks so good for her for getting out of there.

there's this post floating around on tumblr talking about how pledis is basically bleeding money and that's why all the artists r suffering so much.

I don't know how much is true, but it is pretty much what is happening and I don't pity them at all, they did it to themselves, I just feel bad for the acts and trainees still under them.

bad business decisions. they wasted money on albums for kahi and nu'est when they're the least popular artists instead of focusing on after school and hello venus. like i know for a fact they lost A LOT of money from every nu'est comeback and same with kahi's. kahi sold like 600 copies or something?? like lysblack said, i dont feel sorry for them. they're a company/a business and they should know the right decisions to make. u can't invest a lot of money on something/someone who will not make u any profit... that's just ridiculous.

i feel rly bad for their artists tho. especially their trainees. they've had these kids from 17 for years and promised a debut in 2012... its 2015 and theyre still delaying it bc im sure they dont have the money for it. it's sad as hell because it's like this shitty company is making the lives of their artists a waste of time. eyoung and kaeun have been in the group for idek how long now and /no one/ knows who they are. i used to joke about this a lot but i rly think they're gonna go bankrupt sometime this year or latest 2016 if they keep making bad decisions unless the guy is a billionaire or something :/

I'm only not surprised because it feels like it took forever for Pledis to give her a second single, and then nothing really has happened after that other than doing a few musicals. Kahi probably wasn't satisfied with her lack of promotion so she peaced out.

Seeing this after reading about Pledis' financial situation is so freaking sad like, how do you have so much potential and talents within a company yet can't/ unable promote them properly?

I like Kahi -- her music, image, work ethic -- so I really hope this is just another stepping stone and she manges to find a company that can promote her well and she sees the succss that she deserves

About Pledis having financial issues - not surprised. It's hard to make legit money in the Kpop business, and one usually must invest loooots of money before an actual profit can be made. Of course, promoting outside of the music field helps, but I think that's been pretty thin for most people under Pledis in the last couple of years? 2008/2009/2010 were indeed great, but Pledis started to falter with proper promotions after that. Number of reasons for that, I guess.

The rest of that post is a bit... ignorant of reality, imo. Music show wins ≠ actualy popularity and profit made. And it's only naturally for groups to debut in Japan, that's were the quick cash is and companies usually opt for that.

If true, this is really depressing. NU'EST was undoubtedly my rookie boy group of 2012. I really liked Hello Venus (I think favorite girl group debut of the year). I've been wondering why NU'EST's sales kept going down.

I hope one of the big three can acquire (like SM did for Woollim) but allow them to keep their own creative sides...

A friend I follow who is close to one of her staff people told me she's been looking into signing with one of the Big 3/5 for months now. I'm not sure SM would take her back but I'd like to see her on JYP even though she doesn't really fit in if that makes sense. But with Studio J now who knows.

I don't really like her but she is really talented and it'd be a shame to miss out on her becoming as big as she deserves to.

But from what I was told she was looking to get into the agency part of the companies that represent actors and models, not so much the musical aspect even though she wants to do her own music again. I think that makes more sense since she's probably looking for someone to represent her right and provide some decent promo.

As for Pledis, ;^; It's sad how bad Hello Venus has become due to the split.
Out of the Pledis Artists, I think Nana is earning the most and then it's orange caramel. I think 17 is a waste, too many boys in 1 group (I heard there were 21, but it has slimmed down since). Especially for a company that's in financial difficulties.

I'm so sad! I really liked her (Kahi) last album. Can't believe it sold only 720+ copies. She's so talented and such a beautiful human being. I hope she can get into a good company and continue with her amazing work. Also hope the best for Pledis artists specially NU'EST, After School and Orange Caramel.
