source: YouTube video, Lisa's channel
I really like her channel, so I thought I'd share it. Some of it is not really new knowledge for those who have previously been interested in the Korean beauty scene, but it's a nice video nontheless. Also relevant since she gushes about Moonshot, YG's make-up brand.
Let's turn this into a (Korean) make-up post if you want. :)

Date: 2015-01-19 06:30 am (UTC)if this is gonna turn into a makeup post, i wanna know if anyone has suggestions for liquid foundation.
i have combination dry/oily skin and a lot of redness. right now i've got clinique's redness solutions.
it's really good at covering the red and doesn't feel heavy, but it's just so expensive. :(

Date: 2015-01-19 06:41 am (UTC)As far as makeup, I don't use it fully or often. If I feel like it, I use eyeshadow and eyeliner [when my eyes are watering out small lakes]. But I LIVE for lipstick. Dark colors only. "Quirky", pigmented colors are even better.
I've never looked into Korean makeup, since I wanted to check the skincare. But I'm interested to see everyone's go to.

Date: 2015-01-19 06:51 am (UTC)I honestly was a little disappointed, and have quite mixed feelings about the brand.
They have some amazing products like their mouse to powder formulas and their jelly pots, they are like anything I've seen in western brands, very innovative and color pay off is just amazing. I bought a couple of those and a foundation, the rest of the products were really meh.
I would suggest people to stay away from their pressed eye shadows and classic powders formulations, they are around $36 USD and the formulation its really not that good, and for the price they are selling them for, you can get a western high end brand equivalent with superior quality.
I was not in love with their lipsticks, not only I found them pricey they were really sheer. IDK for $26 USD I expect a little more. But I think the problem I see with some of their products is that they are supposed to be multi purpose and the formulations are a little weird. Like supposedly you can use their lipstick as a cheek stain, and their duo eye shadows as blush, but they just don't work imho. That's my thing with korean makeup when it comes to pressed eye shadows, pressed blush, and regular lipstick, they tend to be very sheer and lack pigmentation compared to western brands.
They have a line of makeup brushes too, they are not bad but I don't think they are worth the price. The cheapest was like $18 (a lip brush lol) and the most expensive was about $35 I think.
Their foundation though, its really nice, I think I paid about $35 for it, its like a serum foundation, very light coverage but buildable, only problem is the color range its limited and quite on the pale side. They have a thicker foundation that comes in a pot, I think it works more like a concealer even though the girl in the counter told me it was a full coverage foundation I was like, lol no this is a concealer formula.
They have a skin care line but I didn't paid attention to it. It was not that expensive compared to other korean brands though.
I didn't went to their flagship store but I heard they have some amazing makeup artists (a lot of males lol) and its always full of people because they are pretty hot.
TL;DR: The brand is pricey and if you have access to western high end brands you won't be satisfied with the quality and formulation of their products with classic formulas (presed powders, gels, lipsticks). Their foundation its nice (but pricey) and their concealer/foundation too. Their exclusive formulas (jelly pots and mousse to powder) are amazing you should invest your money in those if you want to get something from them.

Date: 2015-01-19 07:51 am (UTC)For me it's:
Face: The Face Shop pore balm (primer) + Laura Mercier silk foundation + Banila Co. setting powder
Eyes: Etude House eye primer + eyeshadow (usually a neutral/earthy tone) + MAC gel eyeliner on the top line. Also, brow pencil to fill in and slightly define brows.
Lips: usually Etude House's bold lipsticks (I've got about a dozen...staying power is meh but I'm obsessed with the colours/cheap price)
I wear huge glasses, so I don't experiment much with eye makeup, since it gets washed out behind my specs anyway.
EH's eye primer is excellent though, my eyeshadow doesn't move at all until I wash it off. I'm thinking of switching eyeliners once I finish this pot, any recommendations of eyeliners that won't smudge/transfer?
For skincare, most of my products are from Benton, but I also love the volcanic clay mask from Innisfree & clarifying mask from Sulwhasoo. Also, lots of sheet masks.

Date: 2015-01-19 07:58 am (UTC)Bobbi brown skin foundation spf15 + YSL touche eclat + Mac mineralized skinfinish natural to set
Hoola bronzer + blush (I like nars and tarte) + hourglass ambient palette for highlight sometimes.
Eyes:
Shiseido brow pencil
NARS eye primer
Dollywink liquid liner + UD naked basics + sometimes curl and use mascara.
Lips:
Whatever one I feel like that day. I like mac, ysl, dior lipsticks.
Skincare wise, I use shu uemura cleansing oils, and whatever japanese drugstore cleanser + nivea or clinique moisturizer. Don't do very much to my skin tbh.

Date: 2015-01-19 02:48 pm (UTC)For me I have EXTREMELY dehydrated skin, and I want a foundation that will smooth over my imperfections (redness, some hyperpigmentations, the occasional pimples) without feeling heavy, and that it'll also look good on camera. If you have any other recs please send them my way!

Date: 2015-01-20 10:23 pm (UTC)In most foundations I've used, I had to combine a concealer with it to cover everything, but I'm really pleased with the coverage of the Armani foundation. I'd definitely recommend it, but if you're hesitant then maybe go to a local Sephora (if you live near one) and ask for a sample! They'll squeeze some out for you in a clampshell container so you can judge for yourself.
