During KBS2‘s new show, Make a Decision to Watch the Live Broadcast, comedian Jang Dong Min shared that he dislikes the differential treatment given to comedians versus singers on variety shows.

He made this comment while watching an episode of SBS‘s variety show, Running Man, with his family during the second episode of Make a Decision to Watch the Live Broadcast. He claimed “when an actor or singer appears as a guest on a show like this, the reaction is ‘wow~” but when a gagman or gagwoman is the guest, the reaction is ‘what is this.’ I really hate it.

However, he also expressed his gratitude towards the show, saying that Chinese viewers now recognize him and even know his name after his appearance on Running Man, due to the show’s popularity in China and Southeast Asia.

He also said that before appearing on the show, he used to think that entertainers “made money while playing” while watching variety shows like Running Man, but after shooting an episode, he realized how difficult it was.

Oh! I had read a headline that they were going to do a Korean version of gogglebox...is this it? I haven't read the article yet...but if it is, it seems kinda disappointing. Must go and find the episodes online now...

IDK, maybe it is because I don't get his style of "humor" but he really was a stick in the mud in that episode...maybe his "character" is meant to be? sure comedians and singers are treated differently but I think that comes with the territory for the job. As a comedian they want to set you up immediately so to me reactions like that are to give you an opening for a quick one-liner, proving that you're funny. Unless you're at the level of Jerry Seinfeld I doubt anyone will get "awe respect" that he is talking about. Maybe I am misunderstanding and my dislike of him is influencing how I read it...

+1

esp. those comedians who are in a character 24/7 and show up on every show as a "joke". SK's comedy culture is more about foolish skits so that rarely gains respect the same as singers gain, or what Jerry gains :D

he is a douche for so many reasons so i hate that i agree with him. i mean i understand that that's their shtick but it's been like 200+ episodes so yeah we get it, they can stop now. especially when episodes with actors and idols (especially if they're women) tend to be less physical and more "look how relatable and endearing this hot chick is!", and the episodes that are the most fun are the ones where they don't try to "raise up" the guests.

Seriously. I hate how so many of those look at how relateable this hot actress/singer is involve cooking instant ramen or kimchi fried rice or some other lame cookoff.

So basically he's mad bc appearing on variety shows isn't making him more money...

IDK I always figured the reactions comedians get on shows like that, is to set them up for a joke/to have a funny interactions. It's not like they can poke too much fun @ actors and singers the way they do comedians.
