Hyolyn Joins the 3rd Season of "I Am A Singer!"

SISTAR member Hyolyn is set to join the new series of MBC‘s singing contest show “I Am a Singer.” The star will take part in filming session for the new show, which will begin its third season this year. Shooting for the new series will start on January 21 in Seoul’s Digital Media City complex.

Hyolyn previously appeared on a Chuseok (Korean harvest festival holiday) season special of “I Am a Singer,” which aired in September last year, and became the first idol group singer to perform on the show.

The third season will air on Friday evenings at 10 p.m. KST beginning on January 30. The show’s producers have already hinted that the series may run for a total of 13 weeks.

Previous contestants on the show have included the likes of Insooni, Gummy and Bobby Kim.

Honestly...I kind of agree with the comments here (though obviously not so harshly). Considering the kind of lineups they've always had in the past and the lineup I was hoping for (Hyoshin, maybe Lee Sunhee, fingers crossed for Younha), the fact that they're starting with an idol doesn't give me the greatest hopes for #3...

Damn at the unnecessary idol hate. At least they're not casting Dara (I love her, but girl is not a singer). If it's gonna be an idol I would hope it'd be someone like Hyorin, Ailee, Eunji...but ok netizens, okay. I don't understand the big deal, so if someone wants to explain, pls do lol

it's not entirely just idol hate - in general the calibre of artists they brought onto the show in the first season (and to some extent the 2nd) was pretty high - artists that were considered to have been rly influential in the korean music scene in recent years and/or long performing history & lots of hits and generally well liked by both critics and the general public. in season 2 the show dropped loads in ratings and reactions to even artists like gummy and tei were not very good, as well as juck woo. i am a singer was always meant to be for more ~high class~ artists (based on the above criteria), whereas immortal song is more for recent mainstream artists and/or groups who may be popular with the general public but not necessarily seen to be ~true high class~ singers. idk it's like having someone like one direction perform on the same show as...tom jones lol (can't think of a good example HAHA)

it's pretty elitist at the end of the day but i say all this as someone who actually agrees with the netizen comments, and gave up on the show mid season 2 cos of the clear drop in quality of the artists they were bringing on. and i don't even think hyorin is bad at singing

It would be like if Whitney, Mariah and Celine were reg guest and then Miley Cyrus showed up lol Though I hate putting Hyorin in the same category as Miley, bc Miley can't really sing (imo). But yea, I get the disappointment by fans of the show.
