2015-01-07 12:33 pmShinhwa′s Kim Dong Wan Donates 50 Million Won for Children of Low Income Families

Hoping to provide a warm winter to children in low-income families, Shinhwa′s Kim Dong Wan participated in the act of giving.
On January 7, ChildFund Korea, a global children′s welfare agency, shared that Shinhwa member and actor Kim Dong Wan donated 50 million won to help underpriviledged children who must fight against poverty during the cold winter season.
"Although sleeping in a warm room and washing up with warm water are natural acts, for children who are in difficult situations, I think winter is a season that I′m very apologetic for as an adult," stated Kim Dong Wan. "I participated in this donation with hopes of being even just a little help for these children."
He shared that he also had a difficult childhood but never had his hopes dashed due to his circumstances, adding, "Instead, because I had that that desperation during those times, I was able to rise to become a Shinhwa member and Kim Dong Wan now."
"I hope that the many children, who are living difficult lives in the cold weather, will never lose their dreams and hopes despite being in harsh environments."
Kim Dong Wan′s donation will be given to children of low-income famililes and various supporting businesses in Korea through ChildFund Korea.
"A new year has started, but there are still children who are struggling in the cold and in hunger, so it′s not an easy thing to carry in hope for the new year," stated ChildFund Korea CEO Lee Je Hoon. "We hope that it will be a year where many people, including Kim Dong Wan who participated in this meaningful act of giving, will step forward to protect the dreams of children."
Meanwhile, Kim Dong Wan will be making a comeback with Shinhwa in February with its 12th album.

As I entered the new year of 2015, I wanted to contribute to expanding the culture of giving by joining Honor Society,” and added, “As I have done until now, I would like to continue to give in order to help out the underprivileged.”

BTOB Gets Featured on KBS News for Act of Kindness
Introduced in the ′Young Donation Culture′ segment, BTOB was featured in the news.
On January 5, KBS News shared a segment, introducing the donation culture of people who have actively stepped forward to help society rather than just a simple donation. Sharing that celebrities have participated in the donation culture through monetary and talent donations at the end of year, KBS first highlighted BTOB, attracting attention.
"An internet post denouncing the poor treatment of firefighters became a social issue. And one idol group took note of this problem," introduced the news, referring to BTOB′s donation of safety gloves to firefighters.
BTOB recently came across an internet post about the poor treatment of firefighters as they continued to use worn out equipment. In order to support firefighters, the group purchased 40 pairs of firefighting safety gloves and donated them to the National Emergency Management Agency. The safety gloves were then sent to the Jeonnam Fire Department and the firefighters expressed their thanks through Twitter on December 19, allowing BTOB′s act of kindness to be shown. more details here
In an interview with KBS, BTOB said, "It seemed like they were lacking a lot of basic supplies. We thought that we could be able to make an effort together to provide gloves," sending waves of warmth as the group members shared their simple but sincere thoughts.
As the BTOB members are known to have quietly practiced the act of giving even before their debut, the members′ kind deed has brought much attention, pushing netizens and fans to continue the acts of kindness and grow the donation culture.
Meanwhile, BTOB′s newest winter season song, The Winter′s Tale ranked high on music charts upon its release, even topping the Hanteo weekly chart. BTOB has especially brought joy to both the ears and eyes as the members dressed up as different characters in each stage they rose to.
90′s Singers of “Infinity Challenge” Volunteer for Community Service to Give Back Love and Support

After meeting at the “Saturday Saturday Is a Singer” special of “Infinity Challenge,” the 90′s singers who participated in the show decided to give back to the community together.
Those who participated in the show are known to have made a special Kakao message room planning a gathering for community service. On January 3, Kim Hyun Jung, So Chan Hwee, Kim Sung Soo of Cool, and Sean of Jinusean met up to volunteer at Coal Charity Event.
Coal Charity Event was created in order to support families who do not have enough money for fuel in the cold Korean winter. Gaining popularity once again with their old hits, the 90′s singers are giving back to the community as a way of saying “thank you” for the love and support from their new found fans.
The special “Infinity Challenge” episode was a huge success and recorded almost 20 percent viewer ratings last week. “Infinity Challenge” and the 90′s singers are hoping for even higher viewer ratings on the second episode airing January 3 at 6:15 p.m. KST.
Meanwhile, other stars have participated in similar charity events to support the shortage of coals. Akdong Musician’s Lee Chan Hyuk also participated in the same event along with Sean, who is in the same agency as him.

Sean On Life as a Philanthropist on “Abnormal Summit”

JTBC’s “Abnormal Summit” invited Sean of Jinusean as a guest for their recent episode. The show is known to invite guests matching with the topic of discussion for the day, and for this episode the G10 (panels of “Abnormal Summit”) talked about charity, as Sean is famous for generously donating to various places in need.
MC Jeon Hyun Moo started by asking, “So, what exactly is your job? Are you a singer, producer, or a social worker?” Yoo Se Yoon, the other MC, added, “Or are you an angel?” making the others laugh.
However, the MC’s question was not completely absurd as Sean has not been an active singer for ten years. His performance in “Saturday Saturday Is a Singer” of “Infinity Challenge” was the first one in a long time. Sean added, “These days teenagers know me as a social worker.” He also shared that he has been struggling with balancing his desire to give to the poor, work as a singer, and also be a good father. He asked the panels if this struggle was abnormal.
Many of the G10 thought that Sean was doing a good deed and should not stop being a generous donor. Few of the members, however, talked about the possibility of not having enough money to support his children in the future. Zhang Yuan, the Chinese member, said, “I’m worried that if you give too much right now, you may not have enough money to support your children later. You should think about whether your children and your wife are also happy with donating money.” Sean responded, “Would trying to be happy by myself bring true happiness? I think trying to make those people in the world who are more unfortunate than me happy will bring truer happiness to myself too,” and made those around him nod in agreement.
But Zhang Yuan showed his concern by saying, “If you keep giving 30,000,000 won (30,000 dollars) a month, you may not have enough money when there’s an emergency. You may fail as a father.” Sean acknowledged that Zhang Yuan had a point, but still remained adamant about giving to the poor, and shared that he was trying to come up with fun ways to motivate people to donate. He also shared that as his children watched their parents being generous with money while growing up, the children themselves became generous donors, and sometimes were the first to seize the opportunity to give.
By the end of the show, all of the members, including Zhang Yuan, agreed that Sean’s heart for donation should not be stopped. Guillaume Patry, the Canadian member added, “I can’t call you abnormal because you seem to be truly happy when giving.”
Sean ended the show by saying, “In order to ‘understand’ other people, you have to first go ‘under’ them and look up to them from a lower perspective. I am happy to see that the G10 members try to truly ‘understand.’”
