Pann: The icon of sexual harassment is a male celebrity

Eric Nam has suffered countless moments of sexual harassment on TV but just because he's a male being harassed by a female, everyone either laughs it off or producers don't even bother to edit it out.

In the first instance, a woman pretends to kiss him over the lips with a tissue in between but pulls the tissue out last second and kisses him on the lips without permission or warning.

1
2

In the second instance, the crowd of women demand that he tell them about his first sexual experience and touch him inappropriate (sticking her head up his shirt).

2 (1)
3

This third instance is self explanatory based on the caps.

-

1. [+212, -1] This is straight up sexual harassment. Maybe they think Eric Nam's so innocent that he won't say anything about it but they always do this to him and I feel so bad.

2. [+201, -1] I feel bad for him ㅡㅡ I heard him talking on radio and heard he came over from America and didn't even have his first kiss until he was over 20 years old with someone he really loved. Why's he being treated like this on broadcast all the time ㅡㅡ

3. [+199, -1] I saw the actual episode for the first set of caps and Eric Nam handled it well, asking her why she is doing this when she's his mother's age... but it was really surprising to me even as a viewer. Jun Hyun Moo was horrified too. Eric Nam's known to be such a good person and it makes me sick to see someone use his lack of broadcast experience like this.

4. [+61, -0] Eric Nam's charming... maybe because he looks so nice and easy that they think they can treat him like this.. I feel bad for him ㅠ

5. [+58, -0] They're lucky he's so nice and innocent. Can you imagine if any of this happened to a female celebrity? Sexual harassment against males needs to be seen as just as big of an issue as sexual harassment against women. And that ajumma who kissed Eric Nam should put herself in his shoes and see how she feels when some grandpa forcefully kisses her on the lips ㅡㅡ

6. [+54, -0] It's quite obvious they're taking their sexual desires out on him;;;

7. [+45, -0] This makes me so uncomfortable. I've always been a fan of him whenever I see him interviewing foreign celebrities and he's a good singer too and such a nice person.. Amazing how he doesn't even cringe when things like this happen to him.

8. [+39, -0] They really shouldn't use his innocence to touch him inappropriately like that

Where did the socialization process go wrong for these people for them to think that this kind of behavior is remotely acceptable?

what is even happening in the last set of caps? i don't know this dude, but this disguising sexual harrassment as humour is not funny at all. it doesn't matter if its male or female - boundaries, guys...

It looks like she's trying to kiss him on the lips, but he keeps turning away? That's what I got from it.

Yeah this is not okay for anyone to get touched like that against their will. Someone needs to call these acts out on air instead of just laughing it off.

The inappropriate touching with Onew comes to mind... Ugh. I feel bad for Eric, though is the last example really harassment? His arm is around the woman, like they're friends. It just seems amazingly casual for this to be a stranger. Context is really important, so i'm annoyed the article writer left the details out because they thought it was "self-explanatory". :/

He doesn't look comfortable at all imo The screenshots aren't really good but when you look at his face he seems rather annoyed. And he is always turning his face away from the woman, especially in the last screenshot. His hand around her waist could also be to keep a distant from her aka to keep her away from him and don't let her too close. But maybe that's just me.

Oh no, I see Lee Guk Joo and Ahn Youngmi in two of the caps...I really hope they had nothing to do with it. Honestly, this is absolutely disgusting and really sad. I can't even begin to understand how idols, male or female, can take shit like this calmly because I'd be throwing punches. The only good thing to take from this seems to be that K-Netizens know that sexual harassment is sexual harassment, no matter the sex or gender the victim is.

AND for this to happen to my opparbb Eric? Oh HELL no

Yep this was my first thought. I can't believe broadcast stations actually think this behaviour is ok and even funny and don't do anything to reprimand the ones harrassing guests.

I'm glad someone is finally addressing this issue because unfortunately this attitude of dismissing/ignoring/laughing at male harrassment or rape is very common. Harrassment is harrassment, regardless of the gender of the aggressor and the victim so this should never be something to laugh at. Never.

That reminds me how Onew was blatantly groped and borderline sexually assaulted (this time by another man) and people found it super funny. What a disgusting mentality tbh.

the first show where the caps are from i featured jay park in one episode i think. they kept on touching him in all sorts of body parts that he seemed uncomfortable with. he's not so innocent himself, so he could probably deal with it better.

but what is happening on the screencaps with eric nam is just wrong, and glad the netizens are on his side.

UGH. It's just disgusting that this happens to both males and females but there's a negative reaction if a guy comes out and says something. (Like it takes away his manhood or something.) Harassment is harassment. Guys have the right to consent as well and it is inappropriate to physically interact with them without their permission. Like how on earth do these people think that this is appropriate behavior for adults?

I thought about it the other day, (semi-off topic) that's why I didn't really find the musical Book of Mormon all that funny...because it involved gang rape as a punch line and even though it was towards a male I still found it horrifying and disgusting. (And up until that point I had enjoyed the musical.) /random rant.

Fuck double standards, knetizens would go nuts if this were to happen to a female idol, a male idol can't have an innocent nature without every male MC asking him if he's a virgin or being harassed by these "ladies" or having his sexuality questioned... even people consider normal for fans groping male idols but not a female idols... when will this shit end? It's effing 2015.

On a side note, Eric oppa, I feel so bad that you can't even complain about this because of your situation... T^T

Reminds me of: http://www.wcu.edu/news-events/News-w/wcu-researcher-sexist-humor-no-laughing-matter.asp

“Sexist humor is not simply benign amusement. It can affect men’s perceptions of their immediate social surroundings and allow them to feel comfortable with behavioral expressions of sexism without the fear of disapproval of their peers,” said Thomas E. Ford (pictured), a new faculty member in the psychology department at WCU. “Specifically, we propose that sexist humor acts as a ‘releaser’ of prejudice.”

The research shows that jokes like these legitimize prejudice in society.

I've seen that argument used to excuse female pedophiles (like teachers harrassing underaged male students) and it's revolting tbh.
