i think tvN made a mistake in the way they marketed this drama because valid love not even remotely as typical as the plot makes it sound. in short, while the first two episodes r throwaways, from episode 3 and on valid love is a EXCELLENT blend of bomb ass writing (PERFECT balance of drama and comedy), directing, and acting and u REALLY REALLY should be watching this. like...REALLY. seriously... WATCH IT. lee soo hyuk is playing a character with EMOTION! it's AMAZING!
*ahem* this post is dedicated to

the writing for this drama is top notch.

I feel like Lee Soo Hyuk is kinda slept on but his roles are the most varied in the model-turned-actor crew and he constantly improves. I love watching him! I'm also really excited to see Lee Si Young in a drama again, I LOVE ha.

Date: 2015-01-02 07:47 pm (UTC)i was really pissed about lee soo hyuk's role in king of high school so i'm happy to report that he's playing a MUCH better character in valid love and i think he's doing a damn good job. this is the best i've seen him, tbh. he usually gets to play such cold or odd characters but it's nice FINALLY see him playing a character that shows how charming he can be.
lee si young is KILLING it her with her performance. she's just GREAT.

Date: 2015-01-02 07:08 pm (UTC)The writer is also another attractive factor for me, but when I read the plot I became all iffy again. However... according to this post it seems I should give this drama a try??? Decisions decisions.

Date: 2015-01-02 07:43 pm (UTC)if u were as disappointed with lee soo hyuk's character in king of high school like i was u r DEF going to appreciate the character he's playing now. FAR more complex, more emotions (other than anger) and i think soo hyuk is doing a good job bringing him to life.
the plot description does this show so little justice and i think it turned more ppl away than it should've. this drama is so beautifully complex---filled with fleshed out morally grey characters it plays out more like a dramedy than a rom-com. the cinematography is BEAUTIFUL! i love all the framing and the writing is so gooooooooooood.
the first two episodes r the weakest which is a shame when it comes to viewer pulls but for me who stuck around one more episode it has been nothing but absolutely amazing. hands down an honorary best of 2014 and if it keeps with the pacing and writing then it'll def going to be on my best-of list for 2015.

Date: 2015-01-02 08:03 pm (UTC)The drama is overall sad to me with Hee Soo and Il Ri's affair being more because her husband and his family do nothing but give her emotional turmoil, no real support or love. She's just their servant. At the same time Carpenter Kim needs a lot of TLC too and Il Ri doesn't seem like she can handle that. Thus my hope for the end is they all take some time to take care of themselves.
I really just started watching this for Lee Soo Hyuk hotness, definitely does not disappoint in that part. His introduction is being half naked xD

Date: 2015-01-02 09:57 pm (UTC)I really like your point about IR not being able to give J the love he needs. She literally gives zero fucks about him half the time. And is quick to SHUT IT DOWN before he can get his hopes up, only to comeback a day later.
She's playing some high level push-pull while he's sitting there trying to cut his heart out so that she can have it as an emergency backup.
He's a great rebound for her, but he's way too much drama for a 2nd marriage or whatever.

I personally really love all the scenes with Hee Soo, and the interaction with Ill Ril.
IA about episodes 1&2, I realize they wanted a back story, but it dragged a bit.
Anyway can't wait till the next episodes.

No, they're still being vague about HS. I'm pretty sure it's going to be really stupid and we're all going to wonder how the fuck HT was able to talk IR into staying wit him.

-No one should have green-lighted a marriage between a school teacher and their student
-Hubby is a fuckboy
-His fam is delusional and abusive, but I'm gonna miss her love-hate-best-frenemies relationship with her MIL & SIL.
-I'm FORVER pissed that she didn't get to hit before her husband caught on (it would be the best sex of her life)
-Theories of her getting knocked up form that almost-rape-"I'm a real man" bootycall between her and her husband are everything I need (I choose to believe she'd still divorce him and spend her life in some cabin with Joon, baby, and SIL)
Re: YAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSS
Date: 2015-01-02 10:28 pm (UTC)#teamhappiness tbqh. i dunno if joon can make il ri as happy as he'd like and vice versa. i would cry tears of joy if this drama actually went there and through #endgame right out the fuckin' window a la paradise kiss.
hee tae's family FASCINATES me. they r next level dysfunctional but they arent especially bad or excessively good to me either. the only member of the family that i still like is the mother. she actually apologized for her behavior (when she hit il ri) and took steps to make sure il ri was ok. but i think in general everyone in hee tae's family keeps forgetting to THANK il ri for what she's done. so she gets used and they take her for granted. the only one who could claim otherwise is hee soo---which isnt really saying much is it? but in general even when they cant love each other i think they care the best way they kno how. we as viewers KNO it's not good because of how draining their demands r on il ri AND how fiercely protective and giving il ri's mother and sister r in direct contrast.
somehow i'm pleased she and joon didn't do the do? dont ask me why, i dont kno. i just like that they havent done it. i feel like i've been denied an epic sin and it's just makes me want it SO much more than if they gave it to me right away. does that make sense?
i hope this drama doesnt do marital rape. pls god no dont even go there.
can we talk about how LOVELY the soundtrack to this drama is?

Date: 2015-01-02 09:52 pm (UTC)The show doesn't need that. It's above this. I'd rather her be in love with no one, and realize they were both just rwb gone too far.
I think all the side characters are well written, but I' not her for the sister-brother ship or the random dad-son (who are probably her stalkers).

Date: 2015-01-02 10:31 pm (UTC)the relationship between yi ri and hee tae's brother is weird. it plays out like a typical drama couple but there is this layer of brattiness that u can only find with siblings going on between them.

Date: 2015-01-03 06:10 am (UTC)lee si young truly blew me out the water, she's beyond incredible and has made the drama what it is. il ri's relationship w/ hee soo is wonderful and im glad we get to see hee soo's perspection, i wanna know if they're ever going to let us know what's up with hee soo collasping and why the mother blames il ri.
i really like how the show honestly depicts relationships and people. most kdrama usually play off characters as candy girls with hearts of gold and evil moms & second female leads/etc. we really get to see everyone and why they do the things they do.
that being said i think the most important thing said in this show so far is when joon told il ri just because she loved her husband and he loved her did it make her happy. and then she broke down bcuz she's not, her life sucks, her in laws are toxic and she has no one to turn to for support.
im worried she'll die, i wanna il ri to have happiness. her gross husband who i hated from day 1 (her fucking teacher NOPE) i even gave him a chance since he didn't seem awful but he hit her so nope naw.
ultimately i want her to be happy & free of her in laws & gross husband, hee soo to be better and joon to find happiness and live behind his depressing life of solitude.
im waiting for this affair to really start because if this is it, im going to be super disappointed. i would let soo hyuk destroy me, no second thoughts.
im also really happy soo hyuk stepped his game up. he's really working hard as an actor & trying to branch out, picking interesting projects & he's also getting better as well. im really proud of him.
ty for the post op :D

Date: 2015-01-05 05:01 am (UTC)I started it a few days, for the obvious reason - Soo Hyuk, and.. I'm surprised I like it? Idk, I just thought it would be a crazy melo, dragging itself to obscurity, and it's not. Its interesting and makes me question myself about the idea of marriage, not that I'm not sure how I feel about the relationships in this drama, 'cause I do.
I pity Il Ri so much, I feel like she has never done anything for herself. Even marrying her dream man, wasn't the right thing for her. My heart hurt a bit when she said something along the lines - ''he sent his wife to study abroad'' (related to the creepy guy with the son), among other things - her not being able to express her emotions in front of her husband, being a slave to her husband's family...
Ugh, and the husband is a huge selfish fuckboy:
- hitting her wtf
- blaming her for HeeSoo ending up in hospital, nice guilt play there
- humiliating her and ignoring her after all that she has done for his family
And the whole thing with Hee Soo.. It seems like no one in their family actually takes time to talk to her, be there for her, pay some fucking attention except for Il Ri??
Idk.. I just want a clean start of her, taking up drawing for real, enrolling in an academy or whatever.. Joon resolving his issues.. another seven years and they meet and have beautiful children.
