Singer Roy Kim has successfully completed the construction of his very own shelter for abandoned dogs called, “HOME,” located in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province.
Since November, the singer has supported and sponsored the establishment of a shelter that would be able to provide a better and safer environment for abandoned dogs to live. Thanks to the construction of this new shelter, abandoned pets will now have a warm place to stay and escape the cold weather.
On December 28, Roy Kim posted a video on his Instagram that showed him on his way to the shelter and shared, “I went to go visit my friends.” It is said that his fans joined him in decorating the sign and finishing up the remaining construction work, as they spent time together, taking part in a meaningful project.
As the dog shelter “HOME” is one that fans personally participated in setting up, the singer plans to open up the shelter as a place for fans to volunteer at any time.

Date: 2014-12-29 05:23 pm (UTC)I was afraid of dogs all my life, used to run away whenever I see a dog. Then last May, I came back from school and there was a dog at home. He chased me around and I locked myself in the bathroom. I was forced to take care of him the next day and got over my fear pretty quickly. Can't imagine my life without him now :)

Date: 2014-12-29 05:26 pm (UTC)my family got our last dog from the shelter the day before she was supposed to be euthanized. afaik, she hadn't been abused, but they never really gave us a full background.
she was a really great dog, though. she's been gone for a year, but sometimes i think she's still here, lol.
our new dog, while not technically a shelter dog, was up at the vet's office for five months. someone had thrown her out of a moving vehicle, and then she got hit by another one. someone found her at the side of the road and took her to the vet. you'd never know she'd been through a lot by looking at her, tbh. she's still in puppy mode, so she tries to chew everything. she's a good dog, though.

Date: 2014-12-29 05:36 pm (UTC)i volunteered at the humane society near my house (mostly walking dogs) and i'm pretty sure animal control has me on their blacklist since i call them like every other week about a run over animal or a stray dog with no collar. I legit spent 20 minutes trying to get a small dog to come to me once bc he had a collar and i wanted to find his house lmao
I got my dog from a friend who's dog had puppies five years ago. i'm too obsessed with him after all this time lol

Date: 2014-12-30 12:30 am (UTC)That's my Abigail Alice Monster Truck Tubbington* (but I call her Abbey for short ^.^) I got her just a week before she was supposed to be put down (being an "older" cat -- i got her when she was 3 -- plus how crowded the shelters are... They just couldn't afford to keep her for much longer...). She has suffered horrible abuse from her prior owners. Those owners tied a firecracker to her tail -- & lit it (which is why she has a tail nub, not a full tail). They kicked her, starved her, & tortured her. She was rescued by Animal Control/the police, but she bc she suffered so much, she was VERY sensitive, wouldn't come near anyone, was spooked very easily, etc. So, as a result, when people would come to the Humane Society to see cats, she would shy away, hiss if she felt cornered, & just wasn't a social cat -- so people overlooked her. :( One day I went there, & saw this tiny scared little cat, & it broke my heart. Then the chick who worked there told me what was gonna happen to her in a week, her backstory, & I just couldn't NOT take her home. So I opened her cage, let her come to me, & she eventually came to me, & put her paws on my shoulder after awhile. 😭 I took her home, & she became attached at the hip to me from the second she got home. 😄 I taught her how to walk on a leash & harness, & now she doesn't even need it to go outside -- she just comes when I call her name (or rattle the treat bag!)

Date: 2014-12-30 01:01 am (UTC)It makes me so sad to think that 3 years old is considered too old to be adoptable. I know a lot of people want the kitten experience, but lots of people are just worried they won't have as much time with their pet.
As someone who works at a veterinary clinic, we see cats aged 16-20+ on a pretty regular basis, so there's always the possibility you can have many years of happiness with an "older" cat.
