Moon Hee Jun: “TVXQ Posed the Biggest Threat to H.O.T”

Ex-H.O.T member Moon Hee Jun revealed he noticed the immense potential of junior group TVXQ early on in the game.

During the filming of an upcoming episode of JTBC’s “Inside Story Salon,” Moon Hee Jun said, “If a junior singer has outstanding talent and improves at a very quick pace, you can feel threatened,” and chose TVXQ as the junior group that made him feel that way.

“TVXQ greeted me when they were trainees, and even back then, I thought that they could surpass H.O.T,” he confessed.

When asked if he felt any other junior groups posing a threat to H.O.T’s popularity, the singer said, “In the glory days of H.O.T, there was no rival that was capable of causing a change [in our position].”

It is fascinating how the exponential growth of groups has created such competition that fans are waaaay more divisive now. DBSK didn't have much competition in their hey-day and what little competition they had was nowhere close to their level. No offense intended to other 2nd gen groups, but it's the truth, isn't it?

What a waste indeed.
Yet, I'm glad they've all had more opportunities to shine post-split, even considering the amount of pain that had to be waded through to get there. I like what they've become. That makes me feel a bit cruel. Lol.

I can totally imagine the H.O.T guys seeing them training and shitting their pants just listening to their voices.

LOL, MHJ will say anything. He's almost at Clara level with his name dropping.
HOT had nothing to fear with DBSK. DBSK is the better group but there also just SME upgrading the formula they had established with HOT.

In the grand scheme of things DBSK only surpasses HOT if you include internal success. DBSK is to HOT what EXO is to DBSK: watered down, rehash (and that's with skipping SHINWA).

I used to be a huuuuge fan a TVXQ -- had really a lot of old videos of them and one big perfect discographies of their albums and singles. However, my interest waned as their music deteriorate at Japan. :(( So by the time the lawsuit happens, I'm not actually deeply emotional with the breakup like some of the fans. I mean, when you compared the music from their 3rd album and 4th album, there's a huge decrease in quality, at least to me.

However, I still like them a lot as a group and occasionally listen to their amazing songs. They're a legend now and perhaps its a good thing for them to break up at their prime so all that remain is the memories of them being on top of their career like when HOT disbanded back in 2001...

Dude, I was/am a huge DBSK fan since '06... I still don't understand why Mirotic is so loved. It's one of my least favorite songs of theirs and I don't like the MV. If I watch it for nostalgia reasons, I watch live performances or the dance version and stare at Junsu the whole time. Lmao.

I liked Wrong Number much more overall, but there actually aren't any DBSK MVs that I completely enjoy. They're consistently cringe-y. All about the live perfs for me.

dbsk didn't have any competition when they debuted or when they were at their peak, but you can't really name another group that has what they had tbh. Every single member pulled their weight and contributed in a significant way to the group's appeal and success. They all had strong stage presence and distinct personalities/personas that made each of them popular as individuals, which you don't see much of in most groups. I always find it hard to believe that they were all in their early 20s when Mirotic came out bc they all had such an adult style and demeanor about them.

I remember I joined DBSG LJ comm in early 2005 because that was one of the few places to get videos and music. I still remember the VCD rips and everyone being like 'OMG HIGH QUALITY YASSSSSS' LMAO.

I get sooo nostalgic. I went to TVXQ's and JYJ's concerts a couple weeks ago and I'm still going through post concert withdrawal lol. For some odd reason I was super happy in Japan with JYJ's concert (probs because I saw them in Korea a couple months ago too lol). but I cried soooo much with HoMin at one point I was bawling with my friends telling them I was sorry for neglecting them after the break up (I think at one point I actually screamed at them I was sorry for leaving them lol). It was embarrassing af after that, i'm still getting teased by everyone lol.

ahhhh I just woke up and am still half asleep so this post is hitting me even harder than it normally would. I miss my ot5 so much!! there really will never be a group like them ever again. I still remember distinctly where I was when I heard the news of them breaking up (at the zoo with my university friends and texts from my kpop/dbsk friends came pouring in and I legit cried in front of the monkeys bahaha)

also the oppa thing is so true. to this day, changmin will forever hold his special place in my heart, even if younger boys come around and fight for it.

okay not really, but its really unfair and ironic that when I discovered H.O.T back in the summer of 1999, 3 years after they became a group, they disband 2 years later. And when I finally got into DBSK around 2007/2008..BAM! Split in 2009....

Since then I didn't want to get into any other boyband cause I feared they'd always disband (Didn't get into MBLAQ though..so that one isn't on me..) and yeah...a lot of my past boybands just went off the radar..

dbsk was the group that pulled me into kpop man, their harmonies!!! love in the ice korean version is the best thing that has ever happened to kpop and nothing as good will ever happen again.

it's terribly sad they broke up, but their legacy surpasses any other kpop group's of any generation, hands down. but hey, kpop became so saturated after they broke up that imo it's good at the same time to let other on the rise groups take your position.
