Sunny Says Onew Worried About His Life as Singer After Surgery

Girls’ Generation (SNSD)’s Sunny shared a story regarding SHINee’s Onew.

During the December 17 broadcast of MBC FM4U’s FM Date, Sunny brought up Onew while talking to Kim Yeon Woo, who appeared as a guest.

Sunny said, “I heard that you’ve gotten close to SHINee’s Onew these days. I heard that Onew has been receiving help from Kim Yeon Woo.”

Kim Yeon Woo said, “His voice got better after the vocal cords surgery. It had been a while since I’ve seen him. I’ve been trying to make him quit smoking too. I told him to make a promise with me and make it through this time.”

About Onew, who received a vocal cord polyp removal and vocal fold mucosa reconstruction operation on June 3 at a hospital in Seoul, Sunny said, “I’m a close friend of Onew. We’re the same age. I thank Kim Yeon Woo for sharing that Onew has been struggling these days on broadcast.”

Then Sunny said, “Onew worried a lot about his life as a singer after getting the vocal chords operation. He was like that even before the surgery. As he talked about it, he shared his worries about which direction he should take in the future.”

About Onew, Kim Yeon Woo said, “ He was very worried but I think he will do well even if he releases a solo album in the future. His vocal range got wide and he can make sounds comfortably too. I adore Onew so I’ve been coaching him for free. He has a very good heart too.”

Then Onew jokingly said, “He buys me drinks and gives me lessons for free. I don’t know where I can find a hyung like this,” causing a round of laughter.

Meanwhile, Kim Yeon Woo’s year end concert 2014 Kim Yeon Woo Christmas Concert will take place over four days from December 24 through 27 at Olympic Park’s Olympic Hall.

Even the mere thought of a solo album has me foaming at the mouth. Just give me a mini with some moody R&B mixes and I will be living from the first note. I want him to transform into Korea's male Jhene Aiko :3

The only reason I've ever worried about his future as a singer is b/c of SM tbh. He's clearly not their favorite and if he ghosts they'll probably go out of their way to block him at every turn. And I'd worry about him taking care of his own health but you know what? SM clearly has no interest in protecting it so I can't really hold him accountable in the grand scheme of things.

Lastly bless Yeon Woo for providing this update. I trust his opinion and I'm thrilled to hear bb bunny is doing well <3

And then you factor in the stress and obsession with weight of the idol world, the fact that they take them out of school to go work with grownups, plus from what I've heard the vast majority of mcs and gagmen are chain smokers, joining their smoke breaks is probably a good way to network . . .

My guess is 90% of idols smoke. Even (or perhaps especially) the girls, although it's worse for the girls to admit it.

I mean, I'm not surprised because from what I've heard like 90% of the population in SK smokes (and drinks) and he was clearly spotted with a cig in the pics with Jungah anyway, but it's still dissapointing. That shit is not only bad for his career as a singer but also horrible for health in general.
I'm surprised that Sunny and him are best friends tho. I didn't have any idea and it's cute tbh. That Yeonwoo person also seem to care a lot about him. The things he said about him are pretty sweet.

Umm, is it okay for them to do this? I mean, I don't know how close they are to Onew but generally isn't it kind of messed up to talk about your friends personal concerns publicly? This sounds like something that should be kept between friends or released straight from the persons mouth.

Every time I hear about someone I admire being a smoker I die a little inside (and admire them a little less). I judge smokers so bad, especially those younger than me. Younger people really should know better. Go get your stress relief at the gym, go read a book, go catch hookers on the street and get laid (use protection though!!), Idk just anything other than smoking. It's so bad for you and for everybody around you.

But I hope he finds it in himself to quit it.
