Hayun Has Left GI, Group's Future In Doubt

On November 14, 2014 an announcement was made to GI's official fan forum that Hayun had left the group in August of that year.

A statement uploaded to the forum read:


More mysterious information, bothering the fans for GI for quite some time, has been revealed. Unfortunately, it’s more heartbreaking news that the fans of the boyish girl group, GI, must face. Hayun is no longer a member of GI. In addition to her missing, fans got a mysterious hint which made most of them worried about the member (Hayun), but also worried for the entire group.

It’s sad, that after only a year since GI’s debut, the fans are faced with two members leaving the group (the youngest member, Aram, having left in April and the oldest member, Hayun, breaking ties in August).

However, we think that Hayun’s departure from the group was already planned, but for some reason was postponed for a while. Why do we think this may have been the case? We’ve compiled a list of evidence to support our reasoning.

On the 2nd of May, GI had a meeting at the Korea Tourism Organization. Unfortunately, Aram and Hayun were both absent. SimTong Entertainment said that the two girls were not there due to “personal issues.” At the end of May, the girls performed in Gayo Sidae as four, Hayun had reappeared. Also in May, when GI got a Demisoda CF thanks to OneKet’s victory on Idol Dance Battle D-Style, only OneKet, Eunji, and AI were included in the CF. We could say that Hayun was missing because the members of the other group also had to appear in the CF, but even if that’s the case – why would SimTong choose only these three again?

At the end of June, GI performed on Muchangpo Beach Opening Ceremony with two unknown girls (seen in a photo that Hayun had posted on Twitter previously). Then, from the middle of July until the end of that month, GI performed as a 4-member group every day in Kangwon Land. And, just a few days after the shows finished, Hayun disappeared.

On the 15th of August, it was noticed that Hayun changed her name on Twitter – she deleted “GI,” which had been at the beginning of her real name.

It was also noticed that she had changed her Instagram username for the 3rd time (dimplegirlhayeon → hayeonhello → ha_yeon1217). Since that day, she was pretty inactive. Her last message on Twitter was posted on the 31st of July, after the last performance in Kangwon Land. However, she still managed to reply to some of her fans between the 1st and 9th of August.

On the 20th of August, 5 days after GI’s 500th Day Anniversary, a photo was posted on GI’s official Twitter and OneKet’s personal Instagram of the girls holding a gift from GI International. The only problem was that the only members in the photo were OneKet, Eunji, and AI. Hayun was absent.

People started getting even more worried, but did not suspect that Hayun’s absence could be a big deal until the 31st of August, when GI performed on Pocari Sweat Blue Road Campaign Fighting Concert. At this concert, they performed with the two unknown girls we had already seen, but Hayun was once again missing and did not perform with them.

In addition, on the 9th of October, when AI posted a photo on Twitter mentioning the members of GI – Hayun was not mentioned, only Eunji and OneKet. It was another hint, but this time it was a big hint that Hayun was really gone, just like Aram.

It had been awhile since Hayun disappeared suddenly from social media. She’s always had a lack of skills when it came to using Twitter, but this time her disappearance was for an abnormally long amount of time.

No one knew what was going on with her until the middle of October when she uploaded two photos to her Instagram account on the 13th and 15th. She didn’t mention anything about GI in her posts. Even when using hashtags, she still did not use anything that was related to GI.

At this time, SimTong hasn’t released any official statements regarding this current situation, same as they did when Aram left. However, as the GI International Fanclub (who always wants the fans to know what is going on with GI), we did our best to find the truth.

On the 30th of October, we were able to get information straight from Hayun. It was with a lot of sadness that she let us in on the disappointing news, “I’m not a member of GI anymore,” she said. At the end of the conversation she added, "I'm sorry, but I'm not able to talk about the details of the case, nor the reasons for why I'm not in GI any longer. Always, thank you so much for your care and support which I've received from you".

There are too many questions without any answers and we will probably never find out the truth of what really happened. GI’s future is really questionable at this point in time. The girls had their first and last comeback over a year ago (3 September 2013) followed by a short promotion in Japan, but after their return in the beginning of April, they barely attended any shows throughout 2014. [...] Even if it seems like they are training again based on the photos that have been uploaded by the three original members (Eunji, OneKet, & AI), we can’t be sure if it’s training for an upcoming comeback or maybe just another show that GI will appear on as guests.

Let’s hope we will see GI on stage again soon, as a strong group that has overcome a lot of difficulties that happened throughout this year. Don’t stop supporting them! It’s a really hard time for them, so please try to cheer for them even more than usual.

I'm seeing a lot of fans blaming this (and the group's decline in general) on Aram, as apparently she said or did some things that made fans dislike her? Quite a few fans have been saying that since the "most talented" members have left, the group should just disband. It's also strange that there's been no official statement from Simtong, but they're uploading photos to Twitter of OneKet, AI and Eunji and referring to them as GI, so I guess the new members didn't work out? I know they (the newbies) were getting a lot of hate for not even pretending to not be lip syncing during their live performances. (Also, one of the "new members" was allegedly someone who got cut pre-debut?) Whatever it is, it's a huge mess. Edited to add the other credits and tidy the notes, sorry!
