omonatheydidBlock B has risen to number one in pre-order sales on Japanese online music retailer site Tower Records.
On December 9, Tower Records announced, “Block B’s debut single album ‘Very Good (Japanese Version)’ has trumped the likes of Namie Amuro, B’z, TVXQ, SHINee, and 2PM, snagging first place in pre-order sales for three days straight.”
To commemorate their Japanese debut, Block B held a showcase, which sold out within the first day of ticket sales, in Tokyo last week on December 6. Online pre-reservations for the single album topped Tower Records’ charts the same night, and “Very Good (Japanese Version)” has continued to maintain its spot for the third day straight.
Block B’s Japanese debut single album “Very Good (Japanese Version)” is slated for release on January 21 of next year.

Jesus! What words are necessary?
We met with Block B who are in full swing preparing for their second solo concert. It was clear that they're idols who combine strong skills with the charisma necessary to sell out nearly 10,000 tickets within moments of sales opening. These guys, who earnestly focused on talking about music even while joking around without rest. We heard Block B's indescribable charms directly from their own mouths.
Q: Your second solo concert is right around the corner. It seems like you'll have been really busy these days.
TAEIL: We're preparing well. We thought we ought to prepare our individual stages directly, so we're doing everything as best we can. Compared with other groups, we don't practice that much but we prefer to have a short practice time during which we can focus everything [on practice]. We're the kind of kids who spend our time crazily to the point where if we fall once, we can't come out again.
B-BOMB: This is our second solo concert but the reactions have been so hot that we're preparing while feeling a lot more responsibility. We want to show an appearance that's developed from the last time.
Q: You sold out 10,000 tickets almost immediately when reservations opened. Did you expect that?
JAEHYO: To be honest we didn't even imagine selling out. We were really surprised too. We felt like, 'Ah, there really must be a lot of people who are anticipating seeing our concert,' and now we're practicing even harder.
ZICO: We spent a long time preparing to put out our album, and we're not a group that has been doing activities for a long time, so we were worried about what kind of reactions we would get. But we're always thankful for our fans, who show love beyond what we expect.
Q: It's already been 3 years since your debut. You have a lot of hoobaes now, so how do you feel filling that role?
U-KWON: There isn't one particular role. These days there are a ton of people who are doing activities, and to be honest if you're not a big-time sunbae, it's hard to clearly define the sunbae-hoobae relationship. We just do our best to support them while thinking of ourselves as co-workers who are doing the same work.
ZICO: Honestly, doing formal greetings is uncomfortable for me. If you go to a broadcasting company there are a lot of singers, and a lot of situations of just doing a formal greeting and going by. I think that kind of thing makes relationships more uncomfortable.
Q: Unlike other idols, Block B prefers their 'beagle-like' image. Have you thought about trying a more mysterious image?
B-BOMB: I think that won't happen. Rather than forcing that kind of image, we'd rather just be natural. I think being a mysterious team wouldn't suit us very well. I don't think our fans would like it either.
U-KWON: We've already showed our very honest sides often, so if even if we tried to become a mysterious team, would we be mysterious to our fans? I think it's better to show our own humanity.
Q: It seems like you're speaking out against sasaeng fans through SNS.
ZICO: Among our sasaeng fans there aren't really that many who are my fan. The other members have a lot of fans. My fans have already heard my warnings and know how much I hate that sort of thing, so they exercise self-control about things like finding our house. But as the members have seen, my heart is a little weak so I haven't been able to take a firm attitude. It's regretful. I get angry too. If there are sasaeng fans who are reading this, I hope that they'll be warned to stop doing such things.
PARK KYUNG: If this is a thing that our fans are doing, I can understand that. But I really can't ignore things like coming to find our dorm and invading our private lives. It stresses us out to the point of making our lives difficult, and it's a problem that can even affect the neighbors around us. It isn't something that can be seen as only bothering us.
Q: Compared to Zico and P.O, the other members must be a little regretful about not having that many solo activities.
TAEIL: We hear that sometimes. But it's not really something that bothers us. Rather than going solo right now, I'd rather work within our team. To be honest, I have no confidence about going out by myself on a variety show and making people enjoy themselves. I still have to grow a little.
PARK KYUNG: Solo activities… I want to do them. But for me too, making music with our team is more important. If I was going to do variety, I would want to do a program like MBC every1's "A Celebrity Lives in Our House." I want to have that experience of becoming a family with strangers.
Q: Does Block B have a sunbae singer or role model that gives them inspiration?
P.O: For me it's the trombone player Trombone Shorty. He's a person who can show a lot of things even just within one song. It seems like in our country there aren't many people who can even sing while playing the trombone and show so many things so perfectly. I want to become a musician who can sing and play an instrument even if it isn't the trombone.
U-KWON: For me it's Big Bang's Taeyang sunbaenim. From debut until now I've been his fan. Since seeing his constantly growing and developing appearance, it seems really impressive. I want to try making music that coolly incorporates elements of R&B like Taeyang sunbaenim does.
