EXO’s D.O, ZE:A’s Siwan, and A Pink’s Eunji Chosen by Critics as Top 3 Idol-Actors of the Year

On the December 6 broadcast of KBS’ entertainment news program “Entertainment Weekly,” critics and experts of the music and drama industry gathered together to discuss and rank the top idol-actors of 2014.

Prior to the broadcast, producers selected a list that included a total of over 40 idol-turned-actors. From the list, a group of 10 pop culture critics shared their thoughts and opinions on the acting abilities of these acting idols.

According to the critics, EXO member D.O was chosen as the top idol-actor of this year for his work in the drama “It’s Okay, That’s Love.” Following behind him for the second and third spots were ZE:A’s Siwan and A Pink’s Eunji, respectively.

A few of the experts commented on D.O’s acting: “[He] showed an unbelievably deep understanding of his character,” and “[He] did well in portraying a surreal character in a realistic way. His growth rate is the fastest among idol-actors.”

i adore eunji and she is one of the better idol actresses out there, but she is nowhere in siwan's league, the same for d.o., both of them have a lot of raw talent and room to grow, but siwan, and joon for that matter, are miles ahead imo.

Misaeng. It's currently airing and pretty good. He's good in The Attorney too but that's a movie. Oh and he was in Triangle but I don't know if that was any good.

misaeng, hands down. i havent seen him in anything else but he is SO GOOD in that drama. i didnt kno who he was so i was really surprised when i found out he was an idol later.

CLEARLY this works for me because i didn't kno who D.O was either and he was pretty good in it's ok that's love (tho siwan is better IMO)

not really tho. it takes a while for idols to break that mold/title, and to move away from it faster he would need mblq to end/to leave mblaq or work in more high profile dramas and movies to build his brand as an actor.

I originally had actor-idol but changed it.
Maybe it's just me but I feel like Joon has been acting for years so we all know he can act and is really good. Where as the 3 on this list are newer? And so good performances from them are surprising or be in awe of more often than someone who we all know is really solid?
Am I making sense?

joon has been acting for years, but only recently he started to showcase truly strong performances and the fact that he is more than a pretty face/idol actor imo, and if you go by that line of thought you just brought up siwan shouldn't be there either, as his acting has been getting attention since he debuted as an actor.

I'm not basing it on the amount of attention they get. But that Joon has been acting for much longer than Siwan. Also my personal experience of seeing Joon get a lot of high praise for his acting whereas I haven't seen half as much for Siwan.
I think all 3 oare on the list for a reason my thoughts were why would Joon be on there when we all know he can deliver solid performances. It's basically to be expected that Joon is good.
Like, if a movie came out with a rwalky olid, good older actor and a younger newer actor and both did fantastic the younger would get more praise because we all know the older can act. I feel like i'm not making sense.

that still doesn't mean she shed his idol-actor image, because it's not about the amount of years on the job, but the roles they acted, and how much the public and the critics enjoy their acting and talent. yes, joon got a lot of praising (all well deserved) thanks to gapdong, but that is pretty much the first time people actually saw him as a valuable and talented actor, even on mr baek right now, while he gets praised, is nothing nowhere he got gapdong or any growth was mentioned, plus his previous works never really sparked any high praises, they just saw him as serviceable.

but from what i have seen siwan has been praised by his acting talent from the get go and they admire his growth with every character, in that way he showcased more solid performances than joon, especially that with each new character he seems to play people gets stuck to that character and talk about him. i'm not a siwan stan or anything of the kind, but the way i see it is going to be easier for him than joon to shed his idol-actor image to be seen as a full pledged actor.

and not really, the older actor if his performance was good would also be noticed and mentioned, over and over, even knowing that the older actor has and always had the talent. the younger actor will get more praise due to his evolution and growth when it comes to his craft, as a more seasoned actor wouldn't have that sort of commentary, but having the comments more towards the depth of his performance.

It's not about actually shedding the idol-actor image in the public's opinion. I was talking about in the way that Joon is more geared toward acting than being an idol right now.

That is the opposite for me. I have seen more praise for Joon's acting, even before Gapdong than Siwan. And I barely saw any for Siwan until after Misaeng started coming out. Thia is just my pov. The people on this list deserve to be there for multiple reasons or others. Joon not being on this list doesn't mean he can't act, we know he can. So to me him being on it isn't really necessary since we know.

Yes, that's what I said. They would both get praise but the younger would get more because their performance was pleasantly shocking to people because it was unexpected. The older actor already has spotlight and civerage of their talents but the younger does not and would benefit more because then they are looked at for more roles and be at the forefront of people's minds.

siwan is the best actor from all of them but i think kyungsoo's debut in a drama was a surprise and made an impact in the public (probably because people didn't expected it though). i love eunji too! i'm looking forward to their future projects

Eunji is really getting better as an actor. She needs something soon to move past the biggest mistake of her acting career that was Trot Lovers. Although that drama showcased her voice really well

yes eunji ;__; she's all i care about tbh lol trot lovers was terrible but it exposed people to how good of a singer she is, which is something that the success of reply 1997 overshadowed. She's improving with each drama so that's a good thing.

I think this list was only talking about idol actors who appeared in major broadcasting channels, which might be why joon is not on the list. idk if his was on a cable network though. Either way this is one of the less ridiculous best idol actor lists I've seen lol

I disagree, Siwan should come first imo.

Siwan is doing pretty good in his Misaeng role, he shows deep and is totally immersed in his role as GR. Siwan was also pretty good in movie The lawyer.

As for DO, for his first acting role he did well, however - I didn't buy his sad/angry scenes, didn't seem he was really immersed in his role. Sometimes it felt forced, imo.

Eunji - Love Eunji and she was really good in her first role, however I wonder what kind of roles she can play that aren't like her real self.

As for Joon - can't talk because I didn't watch his dramas.

i havent seen eunji in anything but i've seen D.O and siwan in both of their dramas and i would place siwan first, negl. i was impressed with D.O in it's ok it's love but siwan is KILLING it in misaeng.
