(the article, in full, is basically whittling out information on solos that were released between 2013 - 2014, but the general gist of it all ...) sm is planning on release a hoard of solos from various groups throughout the year, starting in january with a member of a group known for their musicianship, and followed by the solo debut of f(x)'s amber. that's all. that's exactly what the article says. place your bets! (even though i have my assumptions / guesses already.)

This is just SM catching up to the times (to every other company out there), pretty much. Nothing groundbreaking except in the sense that they're finally willing to promote something that's not a group. Plus I'm assuming that most of these solos will have actually been working on their own material (like most of SM's latest soloists too).

Bets on Jonghyun for January, since it's someone with "strong musicianship" and he dyed his hair. Taeyeon will come later.

What SM group is known for their musicianship in Korea? Because I thought Kim Jonghyun but I think that may be wishful thinking on my part.

Though if he isn't the January solo, he should get one through the year. It'd be highly unfair to him if he didn't get it.

I just don't like that they're stacking all of these solos on top of each other at the same time. It makes it a little less meaningful. I appreciate that the solos are really going to the right people but the timing could be better. But then again, most of SM's groups are kind of a shitshow right now.

I've been bitter as hell for a number of years now that Kyuhyun didn't get to release a solo. Not only because I think his singing is absolutely gorgeous but also because as catchy as SJ music may be, it's not the genre of music Kyuhyun enjoys doing the most. So the situation just seemed absurd as it was.

But now that I've witnessed the absolute slayage that was his solo debut I can say that there was an upside to the waiting. He's on top form with his vocals and thanks to years of touring w/ Suju and his MC gigs he is really comfortable and charming on stage and on TV. If I think back to the 19yo Kyuhyun of 2007 (that's when he was originally supposed to debut solo), well let's just say it would have been a very deferent situation then.

But who knows. With the right song he might have done well even then.

Anyway, best of luck to all the upcoming SM soloists. It'll be interesting to see what kinds of different genres they'll be pursuing.

I wonder if it'll be just one from each group or if they'll do a couple double-ups like Zhoumi and Kyuhyun? Will really old groups (i.e The Grace) and/or really young groups (i.e Red Velvet, Beat Burger) be included (who in red velvet is even capable of a solo at this point, probably none, so probably not)? Will it all be people who've never had a solo or will there be comebacks? Why am I asking so many questions about an agency I don't care about? I am too deep down the rabbit hole

Beat Burger doesn't need a solo because as much as they had that laundry list of members, Jaewon sang the whole song. Most of them are background people like composers. I feel like Red Velvet isn't established enough for any of their members to go solo, but I wouldn't be surprised if they tried with Wendy.

I think it's possible we'll see something from Stephanie since she's been talking about solo stuff, but not only did Lina just get married, none of the other 3 seem interested. I'm pretty sure Dana has the clout to do more solos considering she was originally a solo artist and she's senior to every debuted artist in SM but Kangta and BoA, but she does musicals and the occasional TV appearance. Not everyone wants it.

This is probably a response to the shitstorm that was 2014; probably an attempt to appease their artists to not leave or "betray" them.

They make it sound good and "groundbreaking" and maybe it's just me being extremely cynical, but it's probably going to be hella lackluster and none of the people who should get solos will probably get solos.

Although, I am hoping Jonghyun and D.O. get their solos and maybe they'll finally release the Jungsis unit from the dungeon.

+1000 I feel like they all will be under promoted/lackluster and mainly to appease fans and artists. I'm rooting for Jonghyun and praying his self composed works get out but seeing as he releases them for free on soundcloud I doubt it. D.O needs a solo as well and I want him to book another drama soon. I need him to establish a firm career outside of Exo after it implodes so he can stay successful. I want this for Chen too but he does nothing minus one OST and SM the Ballad.
