didn't listen to the full thing yet but I love the track with Elo!
side-eyeing the beginning of Act Serious. if that's really what it sounds like then...

edit: Growing Up is perfect. the whole thing is pretty great except for track two.
it briefly samples the Allah Akbar in the beginning. so unnecessary and disappointing.

yep, i heard allah akbar at the beginning.
tbh i doubt he knows about cl's mtbd mess, yg never apologized publicly, he just changed the track for her performances. i doubt most k-netizens know about it, ridiculous.

Tbh as a muslim I feel so offended by cl's mtbd mess. Crush is a great album but i just cant enjoy listen to it because it somehow makes me uncomfortable and i cant bring myself to enjoy it. It just feels...wrong. In the end I just give the album to one of my non-muslim student.

That was such a mess. They didn't even take responsibility for it.

Just listened and it's definitely the Allahua Akbar.this idiot..

And since someone will inevitably show up and try to do the "people sample choirs all the time!" thing, Islam does not allow for religious texts (the Quran) to be set to music. The phrase Allahu Akbar (God is great) is sued in Azaan( muslim call to prayer), Namaaz (prayer) and Takbeer. (A chant). It has immense religious significance in Islam and this nugu asshole needs to get a clue. And kpop artists in general need to double-check shit before sampling, there's literally a billion and one arabic pop songs you could sample, why do they consistently go for religious things?

From: [identity profile] fiercediva.livejournal.com
Because they have to correctly clear the sample of a pop song with owner of the master recording & songwriter first (and pay for it) or be sued. The prayer was probably a sample of something in the public domain or that they thought they could get away with using for free.

"there's literally a billion and one arabic pop songs you could sample, why do they consistently go for religious things?"

THIS SO MUCH! There's Arab pop artists like Amr Diab, Elissa, Nancy Ajram, Mashrou' Leila etc who they could've sampled from but noooooooooo.

I've been looking forward to his album only to be presented with this bs first impression. People need to do their research before adding stuff they don't understand to their music just to sound ~exotic. I'd like to be able to listen to his album without having the second track piss me off but ugh...

why is this a trend to begin with? it's disrespecful af to appropriate from other cultures' religious texts and even more so when it's obviously done just for the cool points and nothing more. and the fact that this ass is appropriating an afro and trying so hard to be black/latino/everything he's not, you really can't take his shit seriously

Link doesn't work.. and unless they are releasing the whole thing again, reprinting the album and re sending it to itunes it makes no difference if he apologized, i love me some LOCO and gray but that just left a bad impression. shows how stupid they are, it literally take 2 secs to google it... so sad. and the YG thing still pisses me off. i only like EPIK HIGH because i was a fans since the beginning and i used to love 2ne1 but now its over YG is dead to me now.

sorry for piggy backing your comment

Track 8 is the most amazing thing ever, anyone knows who wrote it or produced it? I want to go stalk them and see if they've done any other work.

I haven't listened to the album yet, but saw this while going through Instagram.
The producer makes another apology: here (http://instagram.com/p/v846O0knZb/?modal=true) and Loco also adds in his sorry as well.

It seems they really didn't realize. But, I have to say if you don't know...just don't use it. At least they came out and apologized quickly instead of letting it go on for days. And it doesn't seem like they are putting anyone down with the apology, either. They'll have to edit and release it again, so I hope they do so.

I'm seriously offended. I hope they can pull out all of the track and re-released it with better on. And I appreciate that the producer and Loco himself already apologized of what had happened, unlikely for the other song *coughmenboongcough* and be consistently ignorant.

One question though, where did these producers get all those "samples" (refering to CL's and now this)? Cuz I know those samples wouldnt be untitled or without description. They're not even some random samples, heck they're not even samples.

Date: 2014-11-29 01:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mjspice.livejournal.com
I'm wondering about that too. Where exactly are these samples coming from that they keep using them in their songs?

I saw it on the Russian Loco fanboard that they'll release the new version on Monday and write off all the albums from the music stores (here: http://vk.com/wall-72424677_261), but there's no source mentioned.

I'll give the album a listen when they re-release it. Hopefully, this'll encourage other producers NOT to use just anything they want as samples for their music.
