Move over Dr. Cullen. The kindhearted "Twilight" doctor will no longer be the only vampire with a medical degree. Jung Il Woo is up for the role of a doctor with a dark side in the upcoming fantasy drama "Blood."
Like the Cullens, Jung Il Woo's character Park Ji Sang is none too happy with the monstrous turn of fate that transformed him into a bloodsucker. He does not want to give in to his destructive thirst for blood. Instead, he wants to use his abilities to help save others. So he becomes a surgeon at a cancer center and tries to save the lives of terminally ill patients. There's no word yet on what he will do to fulfill his annoying need for blood. Will he raid the blood bank? Or will he hunt animals like the Cullens did?
Yoo Yeon Suk was originally cast in the role of Park Ji Sang but he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. It will be interesting to see what Jung Il Woo brings to the role. He has played tormented before, most notably when he played the unhappy prince in "The Moon Embracing The Sun." He's good at tormented and that may be just what the role needs. And he is good at fantasy, having played the angel of death in "49 Days" and a prince who saw ghosts in "Journal of a Night Watchman."
It's not enough that Park Ji Sang has to struggle against his own baser instincts. He has both human and vampire enemies that try to thwart his efforts. Ji Jin Hee, who played the cheating husband in "One Warm Word," will play a rival surgeon in the cancer department. Kwon Hyun Sang, who played a vampire in "Vampire Prosecutor 2," will play an evil vampire. Kwon was last seen in "Fugitive of Joseon" and "Queen of Ambition."
Drama lovers have seen vampire idols and vampire prosecutors but this is the first time that a vampire character has worked at a hospital. Fortunately both the director and writer of this drama have experience with hospital-centered dramas, as they both worked on "Good Doctor," starring Joo Won. Ki Min Soo directed that medical drama as well as "Ojakgyo Brothers." Park Jae Bum wrote the screenplay for the Joo Won drama and also the screenplay for "God's Quiz."
"Blood" is set to premiere in February. Are you excited about the possibility of seeing Jung Il Woo as a vampire? Let us know.

Date: 2014-11-27 12:57 pm (UTC)I just loved how emotionally realistic the characterizations felt, the richly realized world, the confidence of the direction, and the show's avoidance of many of the sageuk/Kdrama contrivances (often due to that more subdued, naturalistic tone); throughout the whole run, it felt like the PDs/writers knew where the story was headed and how they wanted to structure each episode to get there, which is so rare in Kdramas. It wasn't a perfect Kdrama, but it was lovely, understated, and, imo, quality.
....I also liked how hot Jung Il-woo looked. That was another small thing the drama had going for it.
