After Megan Lee brought up an exclusive contract dispute against her agency Soul Shop Entertainment, the agency has made its official statement on the matter.
On November 26, Soul Shop Entertainment stated through a press release, "The duration of Megan Lee′s exclusive contract is as written in the exclusive contract, five years from her debut. This is a shorter time than the seven years that′s written in the standard contract by the Fair Trade Comission.
"On May 11, Megan Lee brought up an audition with a U.S. entertainment agency, and our agency sent in an audition tape to the U.S., but four months later in September, the agency did not receive anything regarding the audition."
"Soul Shop HQ received an audition offer for the musical All Shook Up, so she auditioned on September 1 and signed the contract to appear in the musical on September 12," stated Soul Shop Entertainment. The agency added, "On October 21, we were informed by Megan Lee′s U.S. agency, with no relation to us, that she will be participating in the final audition for the U.S. drama."
"Then on November 16, after a one-sided notice, Megan Lee departed Korea and participated in the final audition, disrupting the musical schedules. After returning to Korea on November 19, she participated in the musical practice without letting the agency know."
"Aside from the income made from albums and songs, even with the profit distribution of the rest, the remaining income made between the agency and the artist is split 50:50, which in comparison to other celebrities is not unfavorable for Megan Lee, who is a rookie."
"At this time, Megan Lee′s mother contacted, not the agency, but the musical company production affiliate, with a one-sided email, informing that Megan Lee will not be participating in practice and in the musical and about the lawsuit. Due to this, the musical actors and affiliates, as well as the company were put in a tough situation."
On November 10, Megan Lee filed a lawsuit to end her contract against Soul Shop Entertainment for an unfair contract and a one-sided schedule contract. She was cast as Lorraine in the musical All Shook Up, which opens on November 28, before she suddenly dropped out.

1. [+3,903, -68] Put her in the god album despite protests... and now Megan Lee's the icon of betrayal
2. [+3,253, -45] She's already nugu enough as it is, she's getting popular off of this bad news
3. [+2,968, -52] Wishing Soul Shop luck...
4. [+2,081, -26] Everything's such a mess...
5. [+651, -7] Kim Tae Woo's schedule has been jam packed with event performances... He tried so hard to raise her like JYP. He must be so hrut in all of this. It's not like he starved her, he gave her all the support that he could. She's naive.
6. [+637, -5] Doesn't matter how much Kim Tae Woo supports her, it won't be enough when an opportunity from America is staring at her in the face. I'd be so mad if a kid like this actually made it over there...
7. [+613, -5] Income was divided 5:5? Wow, for a rookie she had one hell of an awesome contract.
8. [+576, -3] I can't believe she said she wouldn't attend her first musical performance just days before it was to go on tsk tsk tsk please never come back to Korea
9. [+515, -4] Hul, they really gave a rookie 5:5 income distribution?

Article: Megan Lee finds herself in a legal mess half a year into her debut... where did it go wrong
1. [+3,282, -60] What do you mean where did it go wrong... She threw away Kim Tae Woo who raised her like his own daughter in Korea all to shoot a drama in America... for a rookie, she has absolutely no manners.
2. [+2,378, -31] How can she call it an unfair contract when she's the one who's been uploading on Twitter saying she'd work hard and rehearse for her musical and stuff?
3. [+2,125, -83] With all this in the media now, there's no way she can recover a career in Korea...
4. [+555, -8] So what basically happened was... Soul Shop took in this nugu rookie, gave her a five year contract that rises in income distribution annually.. but while under contract, she's been sending audition videos to American agencies while Kim Tae Woo used his connections with Son Ho Young to get her into a musical. And after an American agency called her for an audition, Megan Lee didn't even bother asking to reschedule because of her musical but just straight up left her musical obligations to go to America before coming back to join musical rehearsals again... and she's blaming the agency for forcing a schedule on her?!
5. [+436, -8] She obviously saw more in an opportunity in America than Korea ㅡㅡ I feel so bad for Kim Tae Woo for raising a kid like that as his own daughter..

Date: 2014-11-26 08:58 pm (UTC)In my opinion, the Korean agency signed her into the musical thinking that it's within their power, while Megan Lee really wanted that U.S drama instead and preferred to do that than the musical. This seem to be a problem of miscommunication and conflict of interest.
