G-Dragon Admits Being More Comfortable with Taeyang than T.O.P

At a recent round table interview held on November 25, G-Dragon has admitted who he is closer to between his co-BIGBANG members Taeyang and T.O.P, whom he both worked with on different project units.

In 2010, G-Dragon worked on project unit “GD&TOP” with BIGBANG co-rapper T.O.P and four years later, the BIGBANG leader is back with another collaboration, this time with Taeyang as “GD X TAEYANG.” Having worked on a project unit with both members, G-Dragon was asked the inevitable question: who does he like better, Taeyang or T.O.P?

“I’m more comfortable with Taeyang than T.O.P, ” answered G-Dragon. “Although Taeyang isn’t a blind follower, I know Taeyang’s style well and I participated in his album so I’m comfortable (with him.) Even when I don’t give exact directions to Taeyang, he brings out the things I want and more. If we made an album, it would inconvenience Taeyang but since we only did one track, it was comfortable,” said G-Dragon.

G-Dragon also mentioned some difference between T.O.P and Taeyang when they worked together on their collaboration. “When T.O.P was working (on our album), he was busy with other schedules too so we weren’t able to meet a lot. On the other hand, Taeyang is always in the studio,” said G-Dragon.

Meanwhile, G-Dragon and Taeyang, “GD X TAEYANG,” has released their dance track “Good Boy” last November 21. The song is co-produced by G-Dragon, Freedo, and American songwriting duo, Fliptones. G-Dragon also wrote the lyrics to the song.

G-DRAGON of YG’s hip-hop project unit GD X TAEYANG compared TAEYANG to T.O.P.

In a round interview about GD X TAEYANG’s single GOOD BOY, which was carried out at a café located in Mapo-gu, Seoul, in the afternoon on the 25 this month, G-DRAGON confessed that he “feels more comfortable with TAEYANG than with T.O.P”.

G-DRAGON released an album as GD&T.O.P in 2010, and this year, he is performing in a duo with TAEYANG. G-DRAGON mentioned, “Rappers have strong pride in their music, so when I work with T.O.P, we often conflict with one another, even though I set the direction. Of course, that is a productive conflict to create a better output”.

“I don’t mean that TAEYANG just follows me easily, but it was more comfortable to work with him because I know his style well and I have been taking part in his albums. TAEYANG always produces something more than I want, even though I don’t give him a specific direction. If it were a full-length album, it would have been somewhat uncomfortable for him, but we worked together quite comfortably, because it was only one song”, added G-DRAGON.

G-DRAGON also said, “When I was working with T.O.P, I couldn’t see him frequently because he had busy schedules. On contrary, TAEYANG is always there at YG’s workroom”, to make the people at the interview burst into laughter.

Meanwhile, G-DRAGON wrote the melody of “GOOD BOY” jointly with The Fliptones and Freedo. G-DRAGON also wrote the song’s lyrics and rearranged the whole song. GOOD BOY has been enjoying a big popularity with its catchy trap beat, G-DRAGON’s flagship sensuous rap and melody, and TAEYANG’s groovy vocal, which differentiate the song from other trap music.

I would like to see TOP working with Taeyang or Seungri. I can't say I like the music Daesung makes in Japan and his solo is pretty much what he does in Japan.

Yeah, that's definitely interesting, lol (were the apes a nod to 2001: A Space Odyssey?). I can imagine it being a struggle to get that approved by YG as his single, so kudos to him...

I remember him reccing a relatively obscure Western indie band whose name I can't remember a few years ago, which really surprised me, but that's the only time I can remember him revealing what artists he listened to.

I only follows their music and don't know them very well, but I found TOP and Daesung style too different from the other three (Seungri is on a middle ground to me). So this doesn't surprise me. Maybe this weird combo is what appeals of Big Bang.

saw some gtop fans complaining on twitter. I don't think GD said anything outlandish and I always thought gdyb were closer, perhaps the closest pair of the 5.

interesting that he says that if they had done an entire album it might inconvenience taeyang. Pretty obvious this was way more gd than taeyang in terms of style. I'd imagine no matter the unit, a full album would have resulted in some kind of conflict and debate. Would be interesting to see what kind of direction they would have taken with a full album because while they have quite a few similarities, there are also a lot of differences with their individual musical styles.

mte and tbh it seemed like something put together last minute and I was just reading some translation where it seemed like neither were totally satisfied with the final version though perhaps I just made that it up.

I know they can be extremely messy together, but I have always been curious as to how an actual full length album or even a mini with these two would turn out. I'd imagine we'd get something a bit more different than good boy

Yes, I agree with that. I can't see Taeyang's musicality in "Good Boy". Maybe that's the reason why this song disappointed me.

GDYB was originally supposed to debut as a unit like jinusean.
thy have been together in YGe longer than the other members of big bang. They even used to have an official fancafe together and had recorded a duo album before boss YG changed his plans and decided to place them in an idol group survival show to form big bang.
GDYB were the only guaranteed members of this group and they already had fans -like me- who saw them in other YGe MVs and events.

GDYB are tight like brothers and were friends before Big Bang was formed. Of course they'd be more comfortable together. Plus GD and Taeyang have more complimentary styles and tastes right now than GD and TOP do at this current moment in time so it's not surprising.

As much as I desperately want GTOP Vol II - I also fear that forcing it would ruin the perfection that is the first album.

First of all, GD was talking about music. IMO, I think GDYB should clash more about music, since "Good Boy" sounds more like GD's solo than a collab between them. I'm not being a bitch, but I can't see YB's musicality in "Good Boy" at all.

As GD said, "that is a productive conflict to create a better output”. With YB being passive, of course you can't do something really challenging.

I was thinking of the interviews he's given himself where he describes his own personality, as well as the recent Japanese article with Daesung. I personally didn't know anything about the suicide rumors until the recently blind item, but his drinking again has been documented by himself and other BB members.

Hasn't Top said he rejects a lot of intervention on his more solo oriented tracks? Top seems very much solidly into his musical ideas. Two strong opinions are likely to butt heads, which isn't a bad thing.

Taeyang seems much more laid back about music making.

I don't think either of them had big plans for this song. I was just reading about how GD wrote it or helped write it when he was bored and taeyang didn't even think they would shoot an MV for this song, so I feel like they didn't really have high expectations and they sort of just made it in passing while fans are waiting for the big bang comeback. Though I don't really know how to feel about that.

As a former gtop shipper like until last year i use to care about this, but this year i discovered i like gdyb friendship because it actually the only thing that make GD more likeable to me and i stopped caring.

And about music i can see that GD is ego is the reason I never enjoyed the gdyb tracks unless they were approached as taeyang ft. Gd (Like 'i need a girl' or 'stay with me'). When GD has too much influence in their songs (it doesn't matter if it is producing or rapping) the song turn out to be so meh for me. Taeyang just loses his mark in the gd style direction. Top seem to have quite ego too so i doubt he would leave something with his name impressed in it to sound like a gd bird. And this sound as if gd is more relaxed when he is the one totally in charge of everything, what is probably the reason why bigbang music will only be realised if gd is the one in charge.
Anyway i'm glad he fanilly said this so i could drop the wish of vol. 2 forever, and just wait for bigbang last comeback before top enlist.
