Lee Hi expressed her love towards promoting as a singer.

In an interview held on November 14 in a café in Mapo-gu, Lee Hi started, “Instead of taking the sooneung on the day that College Scholastic Ability Test (aka sooneung) took place on November 13, I practiced choreography with Akdong Musician’s Lee Suhyun until 4 in the morning.”

Lee Hi is currently a senior at School of Performing Arts Seoul. She was qualified to take the sooneung but did not take it after making the decision to focus on her promotional activities. She added that she has no plans to enroll in college for a while until she has something she wants to learn.

About this, Lee Hi said, “I didn’t take the sooneung yesterday but I have no regrets. I have no regrets because I didn’t take it in order to focus and work harder on my current activities. It could be regretful in terms of not taking sooneung as a high school senior but I will be trying to work harder in what I’m doing.”

“I have no intention to enroll in college by taking the sooneung in the future. I did have a fantasy about college, since I’m a high school senior. But my dream is to be a singer and I’m promoting as a singer in a company called YG Entertainment so I’ve always thought that I should focus on what I’m doing. I told them that if there is something that I want to learn, I will go to college then.”

Lee Hi expressed her firm view as a singer throughout the interview. About how she matured up so quickly since her debut, Lee Hisaid, “I think working with Yang Hyun Suk made me start speaking clearly. He likes that as well. I also spend a lot of time thinking and studying alone so I think I started having my own firm beliefs.”

Meanwhile, Lee Hi and Lee Su Hyun are members of YG’s new unit Hi Suhyun, which released its debut single I’m Different. Ever since it was released, I’m Different topped various music charts, including MelOn, Mnet, Olleh, Genie, Soribada, Monkey3, Naver Music, Daum Music and more.

I’m Different is a song under R&B/Soul genre catching ears with different charms of the powerful soul vocalist Lee Hi and clear sound of Akdong Musician’s Lee Su Hyun. Along with a catchy and rhythmical melody, the song is composed with brass session and guitar rhythm, richly containing the two vocalists’ voice based on simple instrument composition. YG′s Bobby from the upcoming boy group iKON Bobby featured in the long, adding witty lyrics and natural flow of rapping, creating the perfect harmony with the two vocalists.

Interested to see netizen comments on this - are they supportive or not?

I remember when Suzy said she didn't intent to go to college yet, netizen comments mostly leaned towards "Good. Not like you need it anyway." Idols going to college always seems to bother people, especially if they get into acting/music departments.

mm that's why I asked. imo they should be supportive, wouldn't it be better if idols attended college when they have more time to concentrate on their studies? like the idols are making a sensible choice?

Yeah, attending college while they're still going around and promoting usually means them actually attending class becomes news. No reason to hate on idols that hold it off.

well the problem is most of the time they get in through "scholarships" or special screenings using their celebrity/idol status, and their sooneung scores matters much less. to be an idol with all this money (although that's up for debate) and fame and to get into other people's dream colleges only to skip out on most classes due to their activities... it makes people bitter.

personally i don't see why anyone needs it especially when they're settled well in their career - although boys i do understand because the government requires males to go through the military if you're of age and not a student.

but don't the scholarships center around their profession anyway? if they want to study something entirely different i think it would be sensible to wait. if they wan't to study singing/entertainment/composition but they do it on daily basis then i do think some leeway can be given + theory, in general, can be studied on your own.
then again, i studied history. i enjoyed the lectures and seminars but the individual work i did with the materials, 3000+ pages reading for one course, not to mention numerous reviews and essays... i could have done it from home-study/internet. it's more taxing to try to figure out what the professor wants but people do it.

i could be remembering this incorrectly but didn't IU catch some flack for not going to college? like idk at the time it came off as a slightly ~controversial~ decision but i could be remembering things incorrectly.

I can't blame her. I'm currently going batshit crazy trying to decide on a bachelors and suitable college, if I had the option of skipping out because of an already established career, I would

But not taking sooneung means she won't go to college ? I'm confused

Sooneung is apparently the Korean equivalent of an SAT/ACT. It's an eight hours long exam whose results basically determine which colleges accept you. It's held once a year.

Oh ok, thanks ! It makes sense now !
We don't have the same system in my country and I've only heard about SAT/ACT so I haven't make the link automatically

Yup pretty sure. It's just that it only happens once a year, so if you don't take it you have to wait a whole year.
