Kang Ha Neul Chooses Play ‘Harold & Maude’ as His Next Project

Catching eyes with his strong presence in tvN’s Misaeng, actor Kang Ha Neul will be making his play debut through Harold & Maude.

Expanding his acting spectrum through small and big screens, Kang Ha Neul’s films C’est si bon, The Age of Innocence and Twenty Years Old will soon be premiering and despite filming Misaeng, Kang Ha Neul will be performing on play stage along with the ‘godmother’ of plays Park Jung Ja, who has consistently performed in plays for over 52 years.

A rep from Sem Company, Kang Ha Neul’s agency, stated, “Although he has been filming dramas and movies at the same time, Kang Ha Neul has always had great longing for stages so he was very enthusiastic about appearing in Harold & Maude. He also revealed that it’s an honor to be working with his great senior Park Jung Ja sunsaengnim in his first play. This play will be an opportunity for Kang Ha Neul to grow as an actor.”

Kang Ha Neul previously performed in Assassins, Thrill Me, Prince Puzzle and more, receiving positive feedback from the audience for his impressing acting, and later appeared in The Heirs, Misaeng and more, becoming a rising star.

The play Harold & Maude, depicting the love and friendship between a young man and a grandmother will begin in January in Small Hall ‘Dal’ of National Theatre of Korea.

He looks a bit too old to play Harold. In the book, Harold is a teenager...but okay!

Mte, in the movie Bud Cort's Harold was supposed to be 20 to Maude's 80. Maybe a country that is scandalized over romantic relationships that cross a generation couldn't deal with one that crosses three!

The running gag of Harold faking his own suicides also sounds like an interesting plot point for S. Korea, tho'.

I guess...but then I wonder why they chose this book. The age difference between the two main characters plays an important role throughout the whole story.

Most of his roles have been high school roles though: To the Beautiful You, Monstar, Heirs, Angel Eyes - if that makes a difference. It depends on styling me thinks. I think he'll fit the role well

i heard the movie was really good but i've never seen it.

i want to be mad at him for being so damn selective with his projects but i feel like he's been choosing wisely. i just want more of him on my tv on a weekly basis.

I read this interview where he basically claimed the stage to be his first love. Although, I'd love to see him take on more drama roles (maybe a LEAD), I'm happy for him. I believe it's been a couple of years since his last musical, so he must be really excited to get back on stage.
