The father of EXO member Suho has responded to accusations made by web users who have accused him of being a pro-Japanese sympathizer. Suho’s father is Kim Yong Ha, a professor at a respected Korean university, and has become embroiled in a clash with web users over a proposed change to the pension laws that govern Korean civil servants.

Kim Yong Ha has explained that certain web users have accused him of taking a similar stance to that of the “Chinilpa,” Koreans who collaborated with the Imperial Japanese colonial forces during the Japanese Colonial Period (1910-1945). He also said that web users have called Suho “the son of a collaborator.”

Kim Yong Ha said, “There are some people out there who disagree with proposals to change the law regarding pensions, and some of them are spreading some malicious stories about me. Those stories do not just affect my reputation, they affect my son, too.” According to reports, on November 12, Suho’s father submitted a request to the police for an investigation of defamation.

Suho's father to take legal action about the rumors against him and his son

"Suho is the son of a chinilpa*? This is defamation"

On Nov 12th, Suncheonhyang University Professor Kim Yongha (53), who has been activaly particupating in the debate on the reformation of civil servant pension system, requested police investigation (Cyber Bureau) into posts from a part of netizens which he claimed has caused defamation agaisnt himself and his son Suho (real name: Kim Junmyeon, 23), leader of the popular idol group EXO. Professor Kim appointed a lawyer on this day and plans submit the complaint to Seoul District Public Prosecutor's Office on Nov 17th.

According to Professor Kim, from Nov 10th, there were posts on some Internet sites claiming his connection with New Right and chinilpa. On Nov 11th, a post describing Prof Kim as chinilpa, his son as 'chinilpa's son' emerged and was spread rapidly on Nov 12th

Prof Kim rebuted, saying that "Even though I have clarified that the citizen association Citizen Union for Better Society, which has been claiming to support conservative centrist, is not New Right, netizens still labelled it as chinilpa, reasoing that I have been active as a member of this association to stimulate odd logic into claiming that I'm chinilpa" and "I'm neither a chinilpa nor have ever been indicated as chinil". "My hometown is Munsi, Youngju, Kyeongbok, we have been farming for generations and even in the time of Japanese imperialism, we had absolutely no connection with chinil", Prof Kim stressed.

He said that as soon as Suho, who is currently in Japan for a concert, knew about the fact that posts distorting himself as a chinilpa's son were spreading rapidly on the Internet, he had called him and asked "Is appa really a chinilpa?". "I told him that it's totally groundless", Prof Kim said.

Prof Kim said "A part of the forces that have been resisting the reformation of the civil servant pension system are systematically spreading malicious false rumours, which are not only defaming myself but also hurting my son” and "I will certainly make them take legal responsibility". On the other hand, a considerable number of netizen critized that "The problem lies in the fact that people formed prejudice of Suho from those chinilpa accusations that no one ever confirmed"

Kay so he's not a pro-Japaneses asshole but he's still an asshole. Those pensions comments were disgusting.
But you can't foist his views on Suho, his son isn't accountable for his father's stupidity

Let's just hope Suho didn't get brainwashed by his father. I mean, he grew up in the same household...

oh great job, so your ancestors didn't suck on japan's dicks but you are.

fucking ridiculous, at least the pro-japan back then had a semblance of an excuse of "fearing for their life" (which is still bullshit) when korea was under annexation, but what's this guy doing? he's justifying the japanese war crimes by associating with a movement to revise the korean history - like you can claim your society isn't new right but what your society is doing is in line with what new right groups want. what you'r doing is chin-il, dumbass.

and to dare to claim that this is all some ploy by people who are angry about the pension reduction - how fucking dare you.

also suho is 23 and if he doesn't know what his dad's political allegiance lies he's ignorant as fuck.

Why are children supposed to know where their parents' political allegiances lie? I didn't know what my parents supported until our local elections two weeks ago, why does that make me ignorant? I don't think I'm the only child who doesn't talk politics with their parents unless it's relevant. Maybe Joonmyun didn't have any need to talk to his father about it either.

because suho's dad is involved in politics and for suho it should be like knowing what your dad even does for work. and yes, i believe people should at least know about where their families' values and beliefs lie, politically, socially, or religiously.
i get a lot of young people are uninterested in politics or history but that still doesn't make it a good excuse for a 23-year-old to ask his dad if what he's doing is chin-il..

suho doesn't get to choose his dad and i don't expect him to cut ties with him or anything, obviously he's not at fault.
but hong jin young's dad is also a new right professor and while she still gets flak for it she's acknowledged from early on that she and her father are close as daught-father but she's also aware of his political views and doesn't share them.

the whole "is my dad a chinilpa?" line is awfully cheesy and is an obvious cry for sympathy and it's almost pathetic that his dad is using suho as a shield to fend off the "accusations" to bring in pity from suho's fans. the better route for this asshole to have gone would be to leave suho out entirely or say that regardless of his views suho should not be associated with his status as a politician.
