Lovelyz Members Speak Up on Seo Ji Soo’s Absence from Debut Showcase

Seo Ji Soo was noticeably absent from Lovelyz showcase.

On November 12, Woollim Entertainment’s new girl group Lovelyz attended the debut showcase at the K Art Hall in Olympic Park as seven members without Seo Ji Soo, who has been suffering from rumors.

Going up on stage first, MC Dingdong said, “Seo Ji Soo’s mental state has become serious to the point where she could not carry out daily life activities so the agency announced this morning that she will defer all activities for now,” and added, “I hope that the police investigation can wrap up quickly so that she stand on this spot.”

Baby Soul said, “We came with alert minds. We’re grateful that so many people came to our showcase. We are actually nervous and feel bad that only seven of us are here, since Ji Soo couldn’t come, but we will show you entertaining performances that can fill Ji Soo’s empty spot.” The Lovelyz members then all bowed their heads saying, “We will work hard.”

As the first girl group to debut from Wollim Entertainment, which houses Nell, Infintie and more, Lovelyz an eight-membered group with Yoo Ji Ae, Baby Soul, JIN, Lee Mijoo, Seo Ji Soo, Kei, and Ryu Soo Jung and Jung Ye In. Yoon Sang is in charge of the production of Lovelyz′s debut album. Lovelyz′s title song was also written by Yoon Sang.

Lovelyz pre-released the song Good Night Like Yesterday on November 10 and will release its album on November 17. Seo Ji Soo, who has been swept by rumors, will be postponing activities and Lovelyz will promote as seven members for the time being.

great vocals...i was expecting a more fierce dance tho since y'all planted the idea of a SNSD ITNW debut into my mind. that's my own fault tho

The song is definitely boring and forgettable, but for some odd reason, I feel myself starting to stan them. I've been a little bit indifferent towards Jisoo, so I could care less if she stays or goes. I'm just pissed at people for trying to write off the entire group as a whole for what one member allegedly did. Those other girls have worked hard and don't deserve that. I don't know who is my fave yet. I think they're all cute.

And am I the only one who thinks Yein resembles Jungkook from Bangtan? They literally could be siblings.

People are quick to cross out the whole group, but it's unfair to the other girls, they have worked hard and deserve their debut.

I'm stanning because they harmonized well in the acapella number (and actually performed something longer than 10 secs, unlike most idols who are asked to sing acapella). They should have been marketed as either like a sweet, ultra-feminine girl group with pretty harmonies (like the Rythem duo of ~Naruto~ fame) or as a Barden Bellas, Pitch Perfect-spunky vocal group, instead of what we have here.

And IA with what you said about supporting the other girls! Whether or not Jisoo is an actual psycho shouldn't undermine the fact that the girls worked very hard to get where they are.

Date: 2014-11-13 01:47 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mamamoos.livejournal.com
for me and everyone else i've spoken to, it's about not supporting the group until there is a proper investigation and jisoo is proven innocent as fully as possible because netizens are so damning and she and the group are gonna seriously suffer in ways they don't deserve if woollim just try to brush it under the carpet- it's also to show how unhappy people are that they ignored the rumours until this point instead of cleaning them up for the girls before they debuted???? and more importantly than anything it's about ensuring the girls aren't living and working with somebody who has sexually abused multiple females if she is guilty. i'm definitely actively not supporting them until i know the girls are safe!

do you know how long that would take? plus to do that people who claim to be victims should come forward, which they wouldn't do. and it's not simply brushing/ignoring the rumor, woollim actually has agreed to work with police, but whoever posted things online are still hiding while their evidences one by one are proven to be false.
and do you know how expensive it is to cancel/delay everything? idk if you're genuinely concerned or just trolling.

Date: 2014-11-13 04:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mamamoos.livejournal.com
yeah! i'm glad advancements are being made. i didn't mention cancelling or delaying anything, i was just explaining i and others want to communicate to woollim that this is a massive concern and certainly if it's true they kept on seo jisoo while fully aware of the rumours when they got rid of other girls for being in relationships that that isn't on. it's being said they did this and threatened the people coming forward about this stuff, so i want to be a part of the group making a public statement that they're not going to get away with that and with pushing it aside. it's unclear what's true and what isn't but i am concerned for the safety of the girls and how easy it is for sexual abuse between queer women to be written off, so i'm personally uncomfortable supporting them until everything is clear. my intention i was to provide another perspective on why people don't want to support them and woolim right now, and i am serious.

I have to admit that I'm a woollim stan dan while understanding your point, I think woollim was certain of her innocence (even if it's just her trick or whatever) before making that strong public statement. and I honestly I still don't understand what you want woollim to do? you mean the other girls to acknowledge the rumor? because if they're certain that the rumor is untrue, it is for the other girls' best interest to have nothing to do with it. because just like now, it is very easy for people to judge woollim and jisoo severely even when nothing's actually been proven.
I mean I've been holding my own judgement and all, but it is still unfair to drag the other girls down to this rumor when they have nothing to do with it (even the posters didn't say anything about the other girls, correct?)
and I believe that woollim's CEO is very fond of yoo jiae and would try his best for her, and the other girls, but maybe it's just my wistful thinking.
but of course I might have clouded judgement because I've been anticipating this group for two years and I admit I have massive crush on baby soul even with that unfortunate name.

Date: 2014-11-13 06:12 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mamamoos.livejournal.com
maybe i've been unclear and it's easier for me for sure because i haven't been anticipating this group! > < there have been a lot of people saying it's silly not to support the group just because of this so my only point really is to say that if woollim sees people aren't because of this, they'll continue to take it seriously and hopefully there's more of a chance of it being cleared up sufficiently! there's been an overwhelming response of people being uncomfortable say watching their mvs and buying their music with these rumours and that's really encouraging considering the nature of the supposed crimes- i'm glad the accusations are being taken seriously and that that may be encouraging woollim to take them seriously too.

Date: 2014-11-13 07:31 pm (UTC)
ext_155850: (Default)
From: [identity profile] kazu-kumaguro.livejournal.com
woollim is taking them seriously though? otherwise they won't make that statement which basically asking the posters to have the investigation and if I'm not wrong they even said that they won't go for settlement? so it shows how they have faith in Jisoo's innocence? idk how more serious they can be.

Date: 2014-11-13 07:33 pm (UTC)
ext_155850: (Default)
From: [identity profile] kazu-kumaguro.livejournal.com
my point is that woollim is all for proper investigation but that cannot be done while the posters are hiding, so the claim that woollim is brushing this aside is ridiculous because proper investigation is also what woollim wants.

Date: 2014-11-14 04:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mamamoos.livejournal.com
they haven't brushed this aside and that's what i'm happy about and why this public response should continue! i was also considering that the rumours of them already knowing about this were true and just that they wouldn't care because of the nature of the accused crimes, but hopefully you're the one who's right about their stance

Date: 2014-11-13 02:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ultimaaa.livejournal.com
People are assuming Woollim knew based on the words of a group of people that have been proven to have lied about or falsified evidence. I would not be taking their claims as gospel at this point.

i want to stan them but i just can't until i know what's happening with ji soo. at this point shouldn't they just go ahead and remove her from the group and have them be a 7 member group??

Removing her from the group at this point would just be seen as admitting that everything was true, unfortunately. Netizens are already treating her not being at the showcase as an admission of guilt.

Date: 2014-11-13 03:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] koushiba.livejournal.com
Unfortunately with the way netizens like to bring things up over and over again, I think it will follow her no matter what. Unless Woollim can spin a massive PR campaign to either make people forget or make her seem 100% innocent chances of the whole group escaping this seem slim. I feel bad for her if the rumors aren't ture, she made some really psychotic enemies.

plus it is very unfair for her as well if it's really untrue, personally speaking. and it will be just like Tablo 2.0, remember how people judge woollim super hard last time?

From: [identity profile] littlefox12.livejournal.com
one of the member's name is baby soul? Is feel bad for that girl. Even if this group is talented (I haven't bothered to watch the video so I don't know), I don't care for them much because the whole jisoo situation just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The girls look cute but the song is pretty boring and forgettable, and the dance doesn't actually impress me? I guess I was just expecting more for the choreo because Infinite always has good choreo and their labelmates so... I like the acapella performance though! They're actually pretty impressive vocally. I'm so glad Baby Soul is finally getting to debut ;u;

Date: 2014-11-13 11:05 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jesymphony.livejournal.com
I've been waiting FOREVER for their debut it seems and I'm so glad they're finally here T_T I'm pretty meh about the whole Jisoo debacle, I'm waiting on receipts from police or whatever so it doesn't make a difference to me if she stays or goes.

Song's a bit meh, but I'm here for the long haul especially for my bae Baby Soul. Also they've got that debut SNSD vibe going for them, so Woollim pitched their debut right at the perfect moment imo. I only watched half of a fancam and I've got feels.

God, how I wished Woollim made them Infinite's female counterpart, with sick moves and upbeat songs.

At this point, I jsut think they don't know how to do cute concepts, because their two male groups get all the good stuff.

I never wanted them to become a female Infinite (because being a female iteration of a male group isn't very empowering) but their packaging turned out quite underwhelming. They can probably do better if marketed as an acapella ~sweet vocals~ type of group than a generic hodgepodge of all the cutesy concepts ever. They could have been like that Japanese duo that did that one ending theme for Naruto (Rythem?), with songs that focused primarily on harmony.

Missed opportunity, Woollim!

but baby soul's solos are so gooddddddddddddd, I'm still jamming to she's a flirt, but maybe this group can have the older members for sub-group for baby soul-esque songs.

OMG, I love all the material she released before and actually would have preferred to have her debut solo or maybe with only 2-3 more people. Like, she doesn't even have to dance, ffs. But given that they're already there as an 8 (or 7 depending on the Jisoo situation)-piece group with such a wide age range, I'm guessing they wanted to take advantage of the youthfulness while shoehorning some cute choreo. I thought that giving them cheerier acapella songs would be a fresher alternative to this half-assed schoolgirl aegyo they're trying.

IA though, a sub-group with soft, upbeat RnB and more mature songs would be so so so awesome O_O

yeah, she should've just debut solo, except if she has bad stage presence, but smaller group would do her just well. but I think she's like lovelyz's sunggyu so sooner or later I believe she'll get unit/solo.
but don't lose hope yet, very little bands stick to their initial concept, and even when they do, they usually know more of what to do second time round.

I waited over a year for this and I'm just so underwhelmed. I thought it would be better live but it's so flat I don't really care for it. No doubt they have good vocals but it won't matter if nothing is done with them. Hopefully their future songs are more exciting.

okay, finally I just watched the performance, the dance is so sharp while the song is like that idgi even snsd and a pink's debut are stronger, sorry baby soul but I still love you, hopefully the other songs in the album is good.

After hearing the acapella, I'm in it for the long run as long as Woollim provide with songs that showcase their vocals. I hope the don't get stuck in the APink rut of all cute only cute.
