On November 12, Ladies’ Code’s manager Park, who was driving the van at the time of the accident that claimed the lives of two of the Ladies’ Code members, was arrested and is currently under investigation for speeding.

According to a report by TV Daily, it was revealed that at the time of the accident, the Mr. Park was driving at 135.7 km/h (84.3 mph), during which the car lost traction on the rainy road and collided with the right guard rail.

This would be a full 35.7 km/h (22.2 mph) over the designated speed limit, which was 100 km/h (62.1 mph). According to traffic law, because it was raining that day, drivers’ speeds should have been lowered by 20 percent, to 80 km/h (49.7 mph).

According to Mr. Park’s testimony, the back wheel of the van fell off prior to the accident. However, upon investigation by the National Forensic Service, it was revealed that the back wheel falling off was due to the impact of the car with the guard rail, and that there was no initial car defect.

Exactly! I don't even dare to drive that fast on a fine day. This can be due to my car is a light car so yeah....

To be honest, I have done it a few times, but always when several conditions are required, and legality is the number one condition. If 140 is not allowed, then it's not possible, period (which leaves only some parts of German highways lol).
Even if the weather was good, going at 100 and at 140 are totally different things. I don't understand people who speed above the limit : if there's a limit, it's because of at least one good reason...
So, under the rain... That was totally stupid and dangerous and it's so frustrating for the girls because maybe, if he was following the speed limit, he could have controlled his car or whatever... I'm so angry ! Driving is dangerous you have to be responsible !!!

Believe me, I love speeding too lol but yes! Within limit! I've gone over 10 or 20 but only on a fine day. No way I'll be speeding on a rainy day! The fastest I would dare to go on rainy days is.... 90? 140 is like you're really daring for it to happen, honestly.

I also get scared easily under rain so no way either ! You can't predict how the car will react with so many water ! - and you can't see shit. lol. Better safe than late but it hasn't been understood in the k-pop world yet...

I once drove 160 while it was raining like crazy. Never. Again.

Me too and I was glad I wasn't speeding at that moment I experienced aquaplaning... I guess I'll know what to do next time it happens (if it happens) that should be taught during driving lessons

I didn't know the driver was the manager; they said the driver was someone else who died on impact with Eun Bi.

84mph... you know what?
I don't feel bad for him.
Because of his recklessness, two girls (barely adults!!!!) lost their lives, three girls and numerous other people lost their friends and had to say goodbye to each in the same week, countless fans lost their idols, and two families had to cremate/bury their daughters on Chuseok of all times.

I hope he doesn't get some dinky bullcrap sentencing...

OT, but since it was recently Ashley's birthday, I've been finding myself wondering how Sojung is.
Apparently, she's been recuperating well and the last anyone said of her, Ashley and Zuny was that while the girls were released from the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and major psychological trauma Sojung was moved to a hospital closer to her family, but originally according to the reddit live feed, her facial injuries were so severe the doctors and surgeons said that she will most likely not be able to continue being an idol...Hopefully, she makes a full recovery and proves them wrong!

Idols are seriously always in danger. They have back to back schedules and their company wants them to make all of them on time, causing their managers or whoever to speed there. =\ This still doesn't feel real. I just hope the girls are given as much time as they need to recover.

I also hope this isn't some conspiracy where the car company (Hyundai?) paid off the investigators and pinned the accident fully on the manager to save their own asses. Speeding is bad but if the car's wheels really did fall off, you better call back all the models you sold!!!!

THIS.
I mean Eat Your Kimchi usually say and do some side-eye worthy shit but when they talked about the Ladies' Code tragedy and how it all ties in with the agency and the whole industry, they were on point.

It's ridiculous to be going that fast even if you're trying to get somewhere quick, especially in the rain. I heard the girls went back to the dorms today so I hope they're in a better state now. What happened to Eunbi and Rise still feels so unreal to me ;-;

I feel like there's more to what happened that night then we'll ever know tbh. Speeding and the weather were definitely influencing factors but didn't that car model also have technical faults?

That's what was said at the beginning... I hope they're not hiding the technical faults behind a shitty behaviour because this is too important and dangerous to let go

Going over 80mph during a rainy day? That was an accident waiting to happen. Its horrific. I can barely go 50mph on a 60mph high way when it is raining. I get so scared at the thought of hydroplaning. Im sure he is feeling guilty but he shouldn't have drove so fast.

After the accident the police explicitly said that the driver was NOT speeding, and now - 2 months and one Hyundai "investigation" later - they say that the accident was because of speeding ?

i can't bring myself to feel bad about this, if it is his fault then send him to jail.
tbh this still feels surreal to me, i hope everyone involved is getting the help that they need.

The conflicting reports over two months is making me very suspicious about this investigation... I wouldn't be surprised if someone is pulling strings.
It just all hurts so much and I feel like we'll never truly know what happened and I don't think I'll ever stop missing these girls. :(

OT but damn... this thread is so... fitting? I almost got into an accident earlier because the cars ahead were stopping sudddenly due to an accident far ahead but I think what saved me was the safe distance I had with the car in front of me and my 80km/h speed. (The car behind me was not too lucky though. Got hit by the car behind it) And yes it was raining though it wasn't heavy.

What's frustrating about this incident is that the girls had no schedule after! Why drive fast when they were heading for the dorm?? :(

this is all so confusing 2 months ago the guy wasnt speeding and it wasnt even thought to be a remote factor buy the police now its the main factor and the tire malfunction has noting to do with it. I mean i wouldnt be suprised if it was a combo of tired manager/speed/weather/car malfunction but to do a complete 180 idk it seems fishy

I feel like the manager might be being used as a scapegoat to cover for safety issues with the van. Also wasn't there black box footage from another car?

Date: 2014-11-12 04:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] luvey.livejournal.com
yes he drove above the speed limit, especially in unsafe conditions which ended up killing and harming people.

BUT

it doesn't feel complete. as someone said above, it feels like he is a scapegoat. yes what he did was wrong and he should be punished. but this idea of scheduling things so close without real logical time to travel....it just feels that the company should also be taken to court for their recklessness.

yeah im not sure if i believe this, especially since the police said he wasnt speeding at first.

But I thought there was something wrong with the car? And there is a bigger issue that needs to be addressed when it comes to these idols. These ridiculous schedules and places they have to be proves to be dangerous. Driving 80+ in the rain, rushing to get somewhere should never have to be an option for anyone.

There was some article saying that two of the girls had gone back to the dorms, and I was like "no, no, too soon, not after what happened to them.

How many more people have to die or be maimed before things change?

The conflicting reports make me really suspect. Plus I bet this guy was going to spend the rest of his life wracked in guilt anyway... plus it won't bring EunB and Rise back. So.
