Starship Entertainment, the agency that represents groups SISTAR and Boyfriend, will be joining forces with Mnet for the launching of a new survival show, which will result in a new hip hop group.

The show, called “No Mercy,” working alongside various established artists such as Rhymer, San E, Giriboy, and Chunjae Nochang, will put 12 trainees to the test.

Through various collaborations with and training from popular artists as well as survival tests, the members of the new hip hop group will be chosen.

The contestants will be ranked with the missions, the top ranking contestant being given a prize or benefit, and the last place contestant being eliminated from the show.

rme like YG had invented the damn "who's next" phrase or survival shows. YG stans keep doing the most

This is just me, but it's not that YGE invented the "Who is next" phrase or the survival show but rather that it seems fishy that Starship is suddenly jumping on board a marketing scheme that YGE has been having shits and giggles over spamming.

well that's another thing but if you see YG stans they act like YG was creative god and I'm like "...."

has starship choose certain aesthetics on porpuse? most likely, but I do dont doubt that they have been planning this for a while (big productions NEED time to develop, not only creative-wise but to get sponsors/backing)and that they have long term interest in hip-hop.

so yeah maybe the marketing plan is stan baiting/following the leader BUT marketing is just a part of the show. We will see how it goes from there

The marketting plan was created by YG too, don't act as if this is not the case. People are paid to create a good marketing plan so it is quite fishy from them to used it like that.

Not a stan who jumps on YHS's dick, but it's been more than a year since WIN: Who Is Next, which is more than enough time to plan - so it's totally plausible Starship saw the show and decided to launch their own new group the same way YG did.

I was joking...and I'm not a YG stan, lol.

A hip hop from starship seems a little weird idek.
If it gets subbed I'll probably get sucked into watching it.

They have a sub-label Starship X which is hip hop/R&B focused with artists like Junggigo, Mad Clown, etc.

Ohh I see, I guess Starship just makes me think Boyfriend/Sister/K-Will.

OP you might want to add this video teaser

Starship just copying everything...first Who Is Next and now a tv show where my first thought is YG and BAP

However I'm here for Hyorin as the first mentor LOL

YG's impact!!! Lol, hilarious.

I'll probably watch this? I hope I don't get attached to anyone but...that's what happened with WIN >_> lmao
Will they debut just in time to be compared to iKon?

omg, more cuties to crush on. *sigh*

But seriously, all this YG moaning.
Girls Aloud, O-Town, Eden's Crush, Danity Kane and a whole bunch of other groups all want to say hello. From 15 years ago.
VIXX too. "Survival" shows are nothing new.

LOL ofc people are gonna bring up YG, since YG's survival show for a Hip hop group literally ended last week. And it's on the same channel. AND they're also copying the "Who is next" teasers.

it's not about it being a survival show, but the way they are marketing it is extremely yg like.

Sure, why not lol. Teaser looked cute.

Don't forget that JYP was the first one to do a survival show xD

I wonder if the public cares. Sistar and K.will are very popular but the company itself isn't.

Mnet and these hip-hop survival shows (SMTM3, Mix & Match ..). The teaser is cute though with all of the guys lined up in the kiddie carts. Having San E, Giriboy, Nochang as mentors is pretty interesting. I'd love to hear a Nochang production for a boy group.

Date: 2014-11-13 07:04 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] canxi.livejournal.com
I'm surprised they got Nochang, that'd be pretty cool. I'm interested in that, too.
And yeah, I wonder if Mnet has found their thing? Lol, I bet the channel gets a lot of money from the survival shows.

Date: 2014-11-13 11:16 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ranlikar.livejournal.com
Yeah I don't doubt that survival shows bring the ratings and money, viewers get really invested in their favorites. Plus the concept of the show has cliffhangers built right in! Though I wonder if the public will get tired of these survival shows since they're basically airing back-to-back.

Date: 2014-11-13 11:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] canxi.livejournal.com
Well, they're groups with teen boys so I guess the target audience of teens and teen girls won't mind.
I'm curious myself, lol.

Lbr, this group will debut before iKon
I'll probably watch this, hate every minute of it, get overly attached to members and then hate myself for the rest of my life....

Nice timing, I guess.

Maybe it's because I only watched M&M but not WIN, but I am totally here for this? Reality TV/competition just sucks me right in.

From: [identity profile] danni14nino.livejournal.com
Lol, that teaser though. They should work on making Boyfriend more popular before debuting another group.

So, they eliminate one member after every match? That's harsh. How many are supposed to be in the final line-up?

From: [identity profile] edanz-castle.livejournal.com
Didn't Boyfriend just win on a music show?

Date: 2014-11-12 08:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] danni14nino.livejournal.com
I don't know since I don't watch music shows every week, but they don't seem to be getting the push or have as much popularity as Sistar.

I think this group will be on their Starship X label (indie-ish), so different staff possibly and Boyfriend is for Starship to handle, lol.

From: [identity profile] ashiva.livejournal.com
LOL Starship is really trying to copy every move YG makes. Also anyone else amused that Giriboy will be in this as an "established" artist after his continuous fuck ups in SMTM3?
Edited Date: 2014-11-12 01:48 pm (UTC)

Date: 2014-11-12 11:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ranlikar.livejournal.com
Yeah lol the Giriboy part amused me. He just could not get it together on SMTM3, I found all his performances to be really uninteresting and bland. I've seen videos of his performing at other shows and I like his non-SMTM3 songs a LOT more though. My impression of Nochang is as a producer, so maybe Giriboy is there in a producing capacity? The "mentor" title they're giving is really odd.

Date: 2014-11-13 07:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] canxi.livejournal.com
I like Giriboy. I don't think he ever got used to the show, though. I don't think he fit in with the group he chose either and YDG only picked him because everyone else wanted him and not because he really had a plan for the guy (like say Tablo, did). He kept trying different things and didn't really work out; it'll be nice to see him be more himself.

Lol yall are wrong calling this a knock off of YG. YG did not create survival shows stop it. But its interesting. I'll watch. But why is kpop so into making all these hip hop groups? Can you even call it hip hop?

After Youngji got picked, I just assumed they all went back to training. No idea if they'll ever debut as a group of their own, but I miss those girls. ;_; Chaewon, Yooji, and Sojin were my top 3.

Ppl gonna pretend starship wasn't influenced by YG's shows? Lbr it's probably the very reason they want in on it after seeing the success YG had with it.

Let's hope it's not the hot mess Mix & Match was. I like watching kpop survival shows so I'll probably watch this.

In general, I think these shows are more entertaining then the reality ones that show nugu groups before or after they debut, where they're given missions or something (almost always involve cooking at one point) and such like SBS mtv shows like Match Up! with Block B and B1A4 (probably one of the best of these types of shows), and so on.

Usually though the new groups don't have many variety skills, so it's rather boring.
