Sexy vs. Innocent: which concept will come on top of November?

November is a month filled with comebacks and a new debut. As always there is the battle of which concept will conquer the charts this month: sexy or innocent?

AOA, Hello Venus, MAMAMOO and Apink are making comebacks this month while Lovelyz is making their big debut. This month, AOA and Hello Venus are going for the mature and sexy image while Apink, Lovelyz and Mamamoo are sticking with the innocent and sweet image. In the end who will become victorious for the month, one of the sexy groups or one of the innocent groups?

The Sexy Groups

AOA



AOA had previously robbed men’s hearts with their sexy songs “Miniskirt” and “Short Hair“. This month they are back with a more mature sexy look with their song “Like A Cat“, where they embody sexy cat women. Each member has a unique costume design and is expected to become a sexy icon with this comeback. Their song “Like A Cat” is scheduled to be released on November 11th.

Hello Venus



Hello Venus made a comeback on November 6th with their song “Sticky Sticky.” Previously they had come out with cute and spunky images with their songs “Venus” and “What Are You Doing Today?” Their title song “Sticky Sticky” is produced by Brave Brothers and Elephant Kingdom and talks about a woman’s desire to spend more time with the one she loves. They have already received an explosive response from their fans after wearing nude tone dresses and showing off their gorgeous bodies on their comeback stage.


The Innocent Groups


Apink



Apink is known for their innocent image, but this month they are stepping it up a notch by displaying a more elegant and mature form of innocence. Their 5th mini album will be released on November 17th, and they have already begun to tease fans with concept photos. For this album their agency has stated, “We’ve tried to show in this album how we could portray their maturity in an elegant way and bring A Pink to a new level.”

Lovelyz



Lovelyz is debuting this month on November 10th with a pre-release. They are Woollim Entertainment’s first girl group, and their debut is highly anticipated. They are going head to head with Apink for claiming the title of best innocent girl group, as they have garnered a lot of attention for their schoolgirl images and the fact that famous producer Yoon Sang is working on this album with them. On November 7th they released a teaser for their title track “Good Night, Like Yesterday“.

MAMAMOO is a group that is vocally very strong and garnered much attention this summer with their song “Mr. Ambiguous”, which had appearances in the music video by CNBLUE‘s Jonghyun, Jung Joonyoung, Baek Jiyoung, Rhymer, Wheesung, and Bumkey. The girls are set to return this month on November 20th.

Innocent concepts don't bother me but the music often blows tbh.

Why is it always sexy vs cute tho? This dichotomy is so boring.

As for the sexy/innocent dichotomy: it is played out as hell, not to mention that the divide is not so clear in real life. 95% of 'innocent' concepts still have very strong sexual undertones, making them not so innocent at all. Placing Mamamoo into that same category because they haven't (yet?) popped their asses and tits into the camera for a 3 and a half minute song? I don't think so, they're definitely a mature group.

I think it will come down to confidence, not a sexy vs. cute battle. A good group that loves their concept - whatever it is - and can execute it well is bound to do better than a group still looking for their niche.

If Hello Venus vs Lovelyz is supposed to be round 1 of the sexy vs cute battle, then HV lost. Their song is boring as fuck, and the vocal production makes them indistinguishable from any other random group/vocalist.

Not that Lovelyz's song is all that exciting either, but at least has the excuse of being a ballad.

a pink have gotten pretty big since last year. their physical sales are strong and they have a solid fanbase. not on the level of kara/wg tho (yet). i think they will be soon. they need a huge hit like tell me/mister to catapult them to the next level.

aoa broke out this year, still rising tho. they have had two hits this year after struggling for awhile. the others are rookies.

A few years ago, or how many years ago, there was so much "cute" concepts, that I wished for a lot more "edgier or confident" ones. I like cute when it's fun like Orange Caramel. I can't handle too much cheese from both girls and boys groups. A lot of kissy faces, curled lips(or whatever pig/duck faces they are supposed to make) or heart signs, pink everywhere, are too much for my heart.

Now I sorta see "edgier" ones mixing in with the cute concept.

Why do some of these MVs have to include the dance move where the girls' fingers are put near their v@gin@. I hate that move. I like Stellar's latest song, and MV. I hate that part of their dance. I rather see more breast rubbing or butt shaking.

I agree, OP. The dichotomy is boring. I can't really get into groups with "innocent" concepts because it's either borderline lolita shit or just plain infantalizing of grown ass women. I don't mind sexy acts if the performers are actually portraying a mature sexuality, but few groups have been doing this successfully lately. Just waiting for After School, BEG, and 4Minute to return.

I wouldn't mind some concepts that weren't about love, getting a man to be interested in you or those types of things. Give me songs and concepts about life like, partying, fucking, finding yourself, or the just the difficulties of living. Or even some type of dark, fantasy or sci-fi concept would be great. And please let them dance. Anything to put some depth into this dying genre. We've had it before- why did it stop?

I really don't get articles like this. Innocent concepts ARE sexy concepts, just look at like every AKB song ever. Or A Pink's "uncle fans". Literally the only difference is the quality of songs.
