2NE1 skipping all year-end music awards

Hallyu idol group 2NE1 decided not to attend any music awards to be held in the year-end, its agency said Friday.

“2NE1 was invited to many ceremonies. But it kindly refused them since the members think it is right to stay inactive at this moment to have some time for self-restraint,” said YG Entertainment.

The group has been inactive since vocal member Park Bom became involved in alleged drug smuggling in July. The agency strongly denied the report, saying Park legally obtained the drug under a doctor’s prescription in the U.S. Korean authorities also did not charge her with a crime nor indict her.

The group will only attend a fashion award called the Style Icon Awards to be held Tuesday.

Regarding the group’s future plans, the agency suggested that 2NE1 will work as a whole next year while rapper CL focuses on the solo debut in the U.S. at the same time.

Meanwhile, the four-member group will take part in the YG Family Concert as planned to keep its promise to fans, the agency added.

The group’s studio album “Crush” topped all the local charts as soon as the album was released in February.

I honestly think that Bom not saying anything, and other idols putting in their 2 cents basically cemented the hate.

I believe that if she would have gone and done some interview somehow, she would have connected with the people watching. She's so likeable unlike other people in the idol world and even in her own group.

So it's 2NE1 as a whole who is subjected to restraint, but not 2NE1 as per individual member? Let's just be clear and consistent in their intentions. YG announced their plans for CL's US venture, it's only fair if he discusses his plans for Dara, Minzy and Bom as well.

Yeah, idgi. I know the group will be on hiatus from what they've been reporting, as in no comeback. But besides CL and Dara I've heard nothing about Bom and Minzy. And with Minzy's tweets from the past few weeks it is safe to assume she's not pleased with this. Altho rumors say she is going to have a solo album out soon.

Bottom line, YG is a mess atm.

Agreed. If CL gets and American debut you can bet Minzy is pressed about it. I mean Bom might not get a solo anytime soon since the whole scandal came up, it'll take a year or two for the public to forget that, but Minzy needs some time in the limelight.

UGHHHHHHHHHHH! So first off let me say I get it. Netz are still pressed about Bom going on tours and working because of her scandal so of course 2NE1 has to take a break (UGH LET IT GO PLEASE). But I at least wanted them to perform at MAMA. I was thinking they could do Crush and just slay. I've been wanting to see that live on a min stage ever since they performed it at Inkygayo.

So annoyed.

Truly, the most important thing is Bom getting the rest that she needs and the other members being okay with this hiatus. I wish Minzy & Dara will get to do some solo work as well.

Seriously bummed about this, 2NE1 is really the only artist, aside from BB, that I actively look forward to seeing perform at MAMA every year, so I can pretty much cross that award show off my list of things to watch.

I think it's ridiculous that the group as a whole is essentially being punished because of the overreaction to something that happened. Maybe it's just because of the different culture that I grew up in here that I don't understand it, but it seems like people were just waiting for a reason to vilify Bom for something, and it didn't matter what that something was. It wasn't even this year that the alleged 'scandal' happened, it was 4 years ago and was something that had, essentially, already been dealt with by the authorities and shouldn't even have been a big deal anymore.

It's also very sad to me that people are mostly only rooting for Minzy to be able to continue with things while CL does her thing. Does everyone just forget about Dara? She deserves her own project just as much as the other girls do.

Hasn't it been long enough? Shouldn't they be getting out there and reminding everyone why they're amazing? People are going to keep associating Bom with 'drug scandal' so long as that's the last public"appearance" she's had. Yeah, obviously anything she'll do will bring out yg druggie comments, but it'll also remind people why they love her and get positive recognition for her again.

YG couldn't have handled the Bom situation any worse. By saying the bare minimum and being super patronizing, he let netizens completely snowball the story into a long-term issue. This is why CL getting the free ticket out of that mess with the solo debut really rubs me the wrong way.
