A new report by Star News states that according to detailed analysis by the National Institute of Scientific Investigation (NISI), the car accident that took the lives of two Ladies’ Code members and left the rest injured was not due to a any defect in the car, as first suspected.

The Yongin Seobu Police Station, which is in charge of the investigation of the car accident that took place this past September, commissioned the National Institute of Scientific Investigation for a more detailed analysis of the accident. The results of the analysis show that the back wheel of the car fell off after the car hit the protective wall. It was initially reported that the driver of the vehicle told the police that he felt the wheel suddenly come off while driving, which lead to the accident.

A source from the police station told Star News, “The driver went over the speed limit and lost control while driving the Starex [the name of the vehicle model] in the rain.” The source continued, “According to the results received from the NISI, the back wheel did not fall off due to to a mechanical defect, but due to the impact of the accident.”

The police are now looking at speeding as the cause of the accident. They believe that if the driver had only been going at the speed limit, such a large-scale accident could have been prevented. The police analyzed the CCTV recordings of the vehicle on the expressway at that time and measured that the car was going at least 130 kilometers per hour (around 81 miles per hour) when the speed limit is 100 kph (around 62 mph).

The police plan to review whether more questioning is necessary and continue investigations, after which the case will be submitted to the prosecutor’s office.

On September 3, the vehicle carrying Ladies’ Code and staff members crashed while driving in the rain, which resulted in the death of members EunB and RiSe. The other members and staff were left with severe to minor injuries. Currently, members Sojung, Ashley, and Zuny are still receiving treatment for their injuries.

oh hell...now I'm just curious if this is going to be labeled a cover up, or if all hell is going to break loose on the driver.

if the driver really WAS at fault...*wince* I hate to say it, but I predict a suicide :\ (really REALLY hope I'm wrong though...)

In the rain too... That kind of speed is scary when it is a dry road.

I can't believe we're nearing 2 months into the accident. I try not to think about it because it's still so fresh in my head and just :\ I wonder if the driver will be dealt with

there wasnt even any reason for the speeding either since they were done w/schedules & just going back to the dorms weren't they like ??? was it ever confirmed/denied that the airbags didnt deploy like they were supposed to? i remember that info came around the same time as the wheel falling off info & ppl said that was part of why the girls had such massive head injuries.

this whole situation still makes me so sad tho bc the evidence keeps pointing to it being rly preventable. my bbs didnt have to die :'(.

honestly, just crashing at that speed could have caused such massive injuries with or without the extra bits.

Damn, standard limit in my country is 110 and driving at that speed can be pretty scary. Sometimes when I accidentally go 120 I can already feel my car getting wobbly. 130..??? Damnnnn.

But to think that all of this can actually be prevented... :(

130 is speed limit on many roads in my country but not under the rain... And if the road is at 100 max, it's for a good reason. It wasn't necessary to speed like that... I didn't know it could be worse but learning how it could have been prevented, because speeding can always be prevented... Gosh.
I wonder what will happen next. Are they going to start a legal action against the driver?
Any news of the three girls? How are they doing?

So that convenient mechanical defect excuse goes out the window...

Totally preventable. So tragic.

I thought from the beginning that the wheel didn't fall off. Wheels don't just fall off vehicles. And for people wondering why the injuries were so bad, it was probably also because seatbelts weren't worn. Did anybody have them on?

This was completely avoidable and so sad for those poor girls and their families. There are reasons for safety measures such as speed limits and seatbelts, and this should have never happened.

Date: 2014-10-20 12:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] adenar.livejournal.com
there were reports that came out afterwards that they were wearing their seatbelt. according to the fire department, rise and eunbi were still in the vehicle when they arrived at the scene (in contrast to the report that eunbi was ejected due to lack of seatbelt). but this might be another misinformation.

From: [identity profile] stoppedclock321.livejournal.com
Didn't the first responders say that they did not remove any seatbelts when rendering aid?

Date: 2014-10-20 03:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] adenar.livejournal.com
probably.

Date: 2014-10-21 12:56 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cast-no-shadow0.livejournal.com
Yeah, but I meant the ones who did not make it were not wearing them. Generally to be ejected so easily you have to not be wearing a seatbelt. I know from experience what a difference wearing one makes.

There's a lot of bad information out there, so who knows what really happened?

Date: 2014-10-20 02:41 pm (UTC)

Ngl I do speed on the highway in good conditions and not many cars around but I don't think I can go more than 120mph that's like my limit... however I would never speed under the rain nope nope that shit is scary.

Where do you live? Even if there's no one around it can be unsafe to you. If it's a rural area, animals, machinery, and people can appear suddenly.

I also go a bit faster when no one is around and I'm on a big stretch of road, but nowhere near 120 mph. :/

so tragic and made even more so with the fact that this was totally avoidable if the driver just stuck to the speed limit. fuck in the rain on the highway i go slower than the speed limit because that shit is so scary.

This news just makes the whole situation even more sad and tragic. The fact that something as stupid as speeding took lives yet again and injured others...I will admit that sometimes I have gone too fast but more and more I check my speed and even slow down extra in bad weather because I've heard so many stories not unlike this one where I live.
If you drive PLEASE watch your speed.

i don't know what to think, since NISI has completely lost its credibility with yoo byeong un issue. like it's completely the driver's fault if he did speed but the airbags didn't deploy and he had no reason to speed. and it's really unsettling that hyundai gets away with "the driver's fault" excuse every damn time.

Right? I don;t know what to think either. The airbags and seat belts and the fact that it was a new rental car. I'm not saying the driver isn't at fault but there are multiple issues here.

I'm from Germany, where there's no speed limits on the highways, so high speeds aren't necessarily bad. (People will often drive 150 when possible, ie good conditions and not too much traffic.) But when you drive high speeds on a road with speed limits in the rain, at night, when you have no reason to rush, then fuck you and your irresponsibility.

130km/h in a fucking rain??!!! No wonder the accident happened. In fact it's a miracle that all of them didn't die. Anyhow the two girls are the victims of too tight schedule combined with total nutcase driver.

ETA: Nevermind they apparently were just going to dorm. That driver is 100% fault in this case.

There's a part of me that really doesn't believe this. Seems like the driver is being used as scapegoat so the finger-pointing at the companies involved (the car was a rental right?) will stop. Having two celebs die and several others injured because of a mechanical defect or negligence can really fuck up your business.

Either way, what happened was avoidable and two people died that didn't have to. RIP EunBi and RiSe.

yeah well, 130 is the speed limit in my country, but... no one drives that fast tired/in the rain/with a mini van. also travelled a lot in germany where in a lot of places there is no speed limit. you don't even notice 230 kmph if it's a) a good car b) in good weather c) with few others around. oh also was a passenger next to someone who like to go 200 kmph in a 120 kmph limit country, but again, with good conditions.

so sorry to hear about this again. i hope the survivors are going to be fine. rip.

130km/h is no joke. my brother was angry once and drove that fast (he says its his way to vent idk i was afraid for my life) and while i had my seatbelt on, there is no way anyone could feel comfortable at that speed.

btw, is there any news on sojung, ashley and zuny? i suppose sojung is still in the hospital, right? i really hope they will be able to live a good life again.

the speed limit here is 65mph (so about 105kmh) and people do 80+ mph (so about the 130kmh) in the rain all. the. time. it boggles my mind because it freaks me out to even do the normal speed limit in the rain but people usually blow past me.. i couldn't even imagine how scary that was for them as it happened ;;

i hope sojung, ashley, and zuny are doing okay ;^;

130 kmh in the rain? Oh my goodness....If they were finished their schedules, why did the driver feel the need to go faster? Especially in the rain? The mechanical faulty really does put the blame on someone now, and the feeling is not good or vindicating or anything at all...the fact that this horrific accident could have been avoided breaks my heart.
