Reps, "First of all, there are a lot of pros. CL can both sing and rap. More than anything, there is a scarcity of female rappers in the American music scene. Despite CL being from a girl group, she has a tough and powerful image. She also has an Asian face and is capable of infinite transformations. black female MCs have it TOUGH. male rappers offer VERY little support. nicki still talking abut how she has to struggle to get credit for the fact that she writes all her songs. she's the only mainstream female rapper in the game write now and ppl r still trying to downplay her accomplishments. i think is a combination of sexism and misogynoir that keeps black female MCs out of the game---nicki can rap better than A LOT of her male counterparts but u kno they'd all throw themselves out of a nearby window before saying so. i will FOREVER have a bone to pick with T.I for even letting iggy's thieving ass see the light of day.

She's not fluent in French tho? I've hear her speak in videos, her accent's decent and she knows some vocab but it's hardly beyond beginner level.She also spoke English while 2NE1 were in Cannes.

IKR, I'm kind of in appalled disbelief that this is actually happening. I'm pretty sure it can be boiled down to YG seeing that Iggy was a thang, and his incredible thirst for the international market/recognition then driving him to wonder, "Hey, if someone as tryhard and untalented as her can blow up..."

What he doesn't realize, as we pointed out in the last CL's-going-to-America post, is that the Anglophone market will only put up with "culture vultures" of the white variety, and even then you're going to get hate. And probably deserve it.

Anyway, it could really go either way. First of all, depends on the song. Secondly, she's either going to flop hard or will be a huge hit like Iggy. i really think the netizen comments about pocahontas and mulan come from the very real understanding about the exotification and fetishization of WOC. don't get it twisted---i don't think they're bringing it up for no reason.

in my representation of race class in uni i remember watching a documentary that talking about racism in disney movies and what sort of harmful stereotypes go unnoticed. i distinctly remember one asian american women talking about mulan and how confused her cousins were because they didn't see themselves the way the characters in mulan were drawn. it was the first time (at that time) that they were able to gain a full grasp at what american media believes looks "asian". and mulan was considered ugly...
