People saying that it looks like a chima jeogori*
*Traditional Korean attire

"If you look closely it's not a kimono but based off a chima jeogori. I wonder if they could cancel this drama"

"The person playing Yukime is a Korean and it seems like she said she didn't want to wear a kimono so the costume became similar to a chima jeogori"

"There's talk of her saying that she didn't want to wear a kimono for anti-Japanese reasons so it became a chima jeogori youkai"

People who don't think it's a chima jeogori

"No matter how you look at it Jiyeon's clothing is not a chima jeogori"

"Do people saying that the kimono costume is a chima jeogori even know what a chima jeogori is?"

"Wait a minute...where's the chima jeogori?"

There are various opinions, but it seems that truthfully the information saying "Ji Yong didn't want to wear a kimono so the costume was made into a chima jeogori" has a high possibility of being false. The people who wrote that on Twitter deleled their tweets because of the big fuss that was made.

It doesn't look like a chima jeogori but it really has the feel of something that was handmade for a school performance. Cosplayers are better at making costumes than this

It feels a lot like it's not Yukime

It's too much trouble
Don't use Koreans!

8. 匿名 2014/10/12(日) 13:00:39 [通報] +854
You can say this about everyone in the drama but what's up with that casting?!

12. 匿名 2014/10/12(日) 13:00:51 [通報] +1125
It was a mistake to use a Korean in the first place

13. 匿名 2014/10/12(日) 13:00:59 [通報] +1176
Even though Yukime is supposed to be a Japanese youkai why is she a broken Japanese-speaking youkai?

18. 匿名 2014/10/12(日) 13:01:18 [通報] +708
In this day and age they shouldn't use a chon* actress.
*chon: Racial slur used against Koreans. Yikes!

It doesn't matter if she's nameless it would've been better to use a Japanese actress!

I want Koreans to stop earning money in Japan. Is there a demand for these people? Because I hate them. I don't understand why they use these people who can't properly speak Japanese in dramas.

52. 匿名 2014/10/12(日) 13:11:48 [通報] +230
Also in Korea when kimono are shown in anime they get people calling in with anti-Japanese statements so they paint over all Japanese-style clothing in order to air it

56. 匿名 2014/10/12(日) 13:13:25 [通報] +210
I remember when these chon idols called BEAST refused to wear kimonos in a Katsura Yumi fashion show (op's note: read more here and here)
It's because they have a precedent, these chons

59. 匿名 2014/10/12(日) 13:13:57 [通報] +152
It's pitiful that this girl, even though she gets criticized for liking Japan too much in Korea, in Japan she gets wrapped up in all these false rumours.
And it looks like she has no plastic surgery
As for the costumes it's not only her but everyone looks like they are wearing cheap cosplay

66. 匿名 2014/10/12(日) 13:17:14 [通報] +95
It's not the costume that's the problem
Koreans are the problem

67. 匿名 2014/10/12(日) 13:18:17 [通報] +155
If they didn't use Koreans this sort of thing wouldn't happen

wow, the amount of xenophobia in these comments =/
You would think that by now Japan and Korea would've had the time to sort out their closeted skeletons...

If that ever happens completely, it won't be in this generation, and maybe not even in the next.

A lot of the people that participated or were affected by the most horrible moments in the history of the two countries' relationship are still alive and kicking, for good and ill.

hm, yes, I understand it might take time. I guess it's just hard to understand how Japan and Korea try to foment strong business/trade ties yet they still have all this animosity/resentment as backdrop within their societies...

The healing process seems to be taking much longer than in e.g. Europe, but ofc each case/culture/background is different. Hopefully relations will continue improving with time.

i mean when one country raped and pillaged the other country for so long and denies that it ever happened even when the victims are still alive and demanding apologies, it's a bit hard to go through the healing process.

and meh, money has always been above history.

It will never go away, it will remain in their history forever and it is and it will continue to be taught in schools. It's difficult to let go all the crimes of the past...i think it's a similar situation to Peru - Chile, maybe that's why i kind of get them :/

In Europe it certainly helped that Germany actually owned up to their war crimes and paid reparations. and are still to this day very aware of what happened in the past.

Japan won't even acknowledge all the horrible things they did. So i don't blame Koreans for disliking them. And as for business/trade ties, well money is money.

you're making it sound like it's equal on both sides where it's really just up to japan at this point

Yeeeeeah, looking at it now, I see how it comes across that way, which isn't how I wanted it to go, at all.

Just really shitty wording. :/

are you from poland by any chance? if it's okay to ask

Date: 2014-10-16 04:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] luvikakulubnika.livejournal.com
Thank you for answering. I thought so. Poland had to take a lot from both sides just because of their location. Especially during ww2 so that attitude is understandable I guess considering some people of that time are probably still alive or their families remember.

From: [identity profile] luvikakulubnika.livejournal.com
Yes it's really horrible what happened during those times and honestly I would be mad too, in a situation like you described. (Btw do you know how people feel about Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose playing for germany?)
Regarding polands history I only mostly know about the ww2 stuff thb, because we learn about it alot in school, since it's our history (german btw). So I know it's not exactly the same situation for me, since i can't fully understand the resentment on an emotional level.( I don't think germans really resent any country , we know that some resent us though.)
About your last sentence... idk maybe it's far fetched but you would know more- With what happened to Ukraine, and also my parents implications (who also grew up in the sovjet union) about that matter, I always felt like some former ussr/cccp countries or countries that were part of the warsaw pact are still heavily under russian influence...?

Ia on the sentiment most people have here that it comes of as/or is xenophobic and silly when countries like korea and japan behave this way towards another about history, but that's really easy to say as an outsider who has no emotinal attachment to it. I think something like this will only go away with time and more generations...maybe.

no way man, not anytime soon. there's plenty of families still in korea who have living relatives who was born/lived through the occupation, myself included. i like some aspects of the japanese culture but i know to shut my trap when japan is brought up. also the comfort women issue. :/

It doesn't happen in one day. And it certainly doesn't happen "just" with economic bonds. I think it needs a strong political strategy. It's always the same damn example but France and Germany after the war weren't about to be friends (lol my grandfather would have spit on any German given the chance, and he surely wasn't the only one) but the political leaders pushed toward it, the economic world starting working together... Now the animosity is gone (or strictly related to politics and economics). When you just let things happen... Resentment stays. It's easy to have another country to hate deeply, it tightens the bonds of one's society. So with Japan's closed eyes on WWII and Korea's resentment, I'm really not surprised that they haven't sorted out their closeted skeletons :(

Also, oh, Japan. Your anti-Korean prejudice is not a good look, especially given your history.

LOL but really though, what do you expect from girlschannel.

Speaking of Jiyoung, she's gonna be in a SP drama with Horikita Maki. Look at Sweet Power using that 2 for 1 deal (again). I'm okay with it though. More exposure for Jiyoung. I've watched her on interviews and watched the first ep of 'hell teacher nube' and her Japanese has gotten even better. Like her accent has gotten way better. You can tell she's really been practicing and learning more. Yay jiyoung!! :)

i mean, i do think the costume designers could have thought the costume through a little more, people like fidelity to original designs and with a korean actress they really needed to work double to show intent to keep it authentic when its juch a classically japanese character, however thats no excuse for the comments

I googled chima jeoguri..... it looks nothing like that I'm so confused

also yeah why would costume designers design it like that looks like someone's cheap halloween costume.

Is it true that ancient Japanese garb aren't allowed on Korean TV like hikaru no go?
