Mod Post: Sourcing, Posting, Membership.

This post will discuss how to source properly, posting criteria, and membership.



I. Sourcing

a. Youtube
        1. When sourcing individual Youtube videos or videos uploaded by different users link to the direct url of the video. [Example].

        2. Multiple videos, such as episodes or concerts, can be sourced by linking to the profile page of the user as long as they are all from that channel. [Example]

b. Forums and Websites
        1. When crediting forums (Soompi, Soshified, etc) link back to the original article, the thread the translation is from, and who the translator is.            [Example: 1, 2]

        2. All websites (ex: Sookyeong & Drama Beans) must be sourced by linking to the direct url of the entry containing the article/information. [Example]

        3. Lastly, title your link with the name of the website or forum the information came from. [Example]

II. Posting Criteria

a. The rules in this post and the profile still apply. Twitter and me2day updates, radio transcripts, UFO replies and other things that pertain more to fandom specific communities will be accepted or rejected on a case by case basis. Chances are it will be rejected if it isn't newsworthy, funny, or interesting. If your entry does get rejected it is not a personal vendetta the mods have against you or the group. If you think a submission was unfairly rejected directly contact a mod through pm or omonamods@gmail.com with your concerns.

b. If your entry gets rejected and you see it posted later on, don't be surprised. There are 9 different mods who don't always agree with each other, so which posts get accepted/rejected depend on who's available at the time. We try to make sure things run as smoothly as possible and try to be on the same page with our members, but sometimes things just get out of hand. However, if your entry has been rejected once don't repeatedly resubmit hoping another mod will approve it. More detailed information can be found here.

c. All news posts are to be public. To ensure that all posts stay public please go to the profile and select the post option from there so any journal settings, such as default privacy or comment settings, don't affect your submission in Omona. A link has been added in the sidebar for easy access.

III. Membership

a. Membership is now closed and will reopen sometime in October with updated rules for membership. In the meantime, any questions regarding membership go here or omonamods@gmail.com.

I know it seems like a lot of rules but we're just trying to make things run as smooth as possible for both us and the members. As always, feel free to ask questions if you need something to be clarified.

It's harder than you might think lol. All of the mods aren't usually online at the same time so it's hard to discuss if every questionable post is acceptable or not. Also, each mod has their own ideas about what is newsworthy or not as we all don't share the same interests. So one mod might see a post and think it's interesting and newsworthy, but another mod might find the post unnecessary. However, we really do try to be on the same page with this sort of stuff, but we aren't perfect no matter how hard we might try lol. Thanks for your question.

Anyhow, the majority of the time on I look on Soompi, people usually don't link directly to the original article. Can we just link to the Soompi page or do we have to go find the original?

if the original source isn't linked and you can't find it then it's fine to just link to the thread. we only try to enforce this so if something gets lost in translation or isn't accurate the original text is there so people can doublecheck (ex: that yesung mini skirt fiasco)

I appreciate that you guys are all different, opinionated people. I also appreciate that you guys are running an eljay pop-culture entertainment community, and we shouldn't hold you to some kind of rigid, CNN-like standard.

But imho, it would be really great if you mods could get together and decide on some kind of rubric for accepting/rejecting posts that every mod can adhere to with some kind of consistency. This way, submitters don't have to worry about metaphorically holding up their thumbs to the wind to see which way it's blowing in order to feel confident that their post will be accepted.

Speaking with different friends of mine who have submitted several different kinds of entries and been seemingly rejected/accepted arbitrarily, that sort of experience can be frustrating, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's discouraged many members from attempting to submit posts altogether.

Just a suggestion, though.

Well, we have all talked about it and came up with guidelines some time ago. But like we said some mods think one post is within the guidelines and some aren't and we don't always agree. But when a post is accepted or rejected it's too late. And we dont like spending about half an hour debating on a post. We realize it can be frustrating for people. The only way to have posting 100% the same every time is to just have one mod making all the decisions... but that's not practical or fair. Also we cant accept every post just because it's post otherwise there is no structure.
