TaeTiSeo Members Confess They Initially Disliked Their Sub-Unit Name and Girls’ Generation’s Name

On the September 27 broadcast of KBS’ “Entertainment Weekly,” the members of Girls’ Generation sub-unit, TaeTiSeo, made an appearance for the ‘Guerilla Date’ segment of the entertainment news program.

During the interview, the reporter asked Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun, “Did the three of you personally choose the group name (TaeTiSeo) yourselves?”

Tiffany answered, “No. We really didn’t like the name. We asked, ‘Should our unit name be ‘Twinkle’ or [something else],’ and the company told us to just go with ‘TaeTiSeo.’ We couldn’t believe that we were going to debut with the names written on our schedule sheets (abbreviated as ‘Tae, Ti, Seo, Yoon, Sun, etc.), but that’s really what happened.”

The reporter went on to ask if they had complaints about their name at first, and Seohyun responded, “At first, we did have a lot [of complaints].” Taeyeon added on, “So our name in English is TTS.”

The members further explained, “Like our senior group SES, we wanted to be TTS. But the team director said, ‘No, TaeTiSeo is perfect.’ It was a similar situation with Girls’ Generation. When we first heard [the name Girls’ Generation], we thought, ‘Really, Girls’ Generation? What?’ We were hopeless at first. We trained for so many years and we were going to be named Girls’ Generation? But now, we’re thankful to our team director.”

I love DBSK nowadays, but the whole 'rising gods' thing would've been awkward hadn't they been so successful, tho. I always roll my eyes at these I-am-the-best kinda names when they first debut, I'll admit xD

For someone who doesn't speak a word of Korean, I always liked the sound of "so nyeo shi dae". But Girls' Generation... I needed time to adjust, lol. It sounds silly!
(reading what other translations could have been I'm glad they went with GG).

I liked Taetiseo immediatly, and also I think it's a good subunit name because it focuses on the individuals, it's not a whole new group + concept (I love Orange Caramel but I don't really link them with After School so it's sometimes weird to think they're the same in the end). Also, using the names feels like next time, it might be "Sunhyojess" or whatever they'll come up with (... that hadn't happened sadly)

I remember laughing when I first heard "taetiseo". It sounds, to me, like some rare insect. "Now here we have the rare taetiseo...it only makes comebacks once a year but when it does, it comes back with a bang..."

I still don't like "Taetiseo." I think it's funny that they kept complaining and management was like "just go with it!!!" TTS is only marginally better.

I really like Girls' Generation, though. My friends who aren't into K-pop don't seem to think it's weird, either. "Right now it's Girls' Generation" is very straightforward and literal, but I think that's why it works.

Err I like it I guess because it still incorporates girls generation, it kinda reinforces the bond back to the rest of the group. Unlike Orange Caramel who have evolved beyond just being a subunit of AS imo.
