YG Entertainment is collaborating with Yuehua Entertainment for a new boy group, UNIQ.
After debuting their hot boy group WINNER and currently working on their upcoming boy group iKON, YG Entertainment is said to be collaborating with Yuehua Entertainment in debuting yet another boy group named UNIQ.
Yuehua Entertainment is based in China and the group UNIQ is said to be comprised of 5 members. They have already released two video teasers of members Wong Yibo and Kim Sungjoo and another member’s teaser is set to be released on September 19. [OP note: they've since posted Cho Seungyon and Li WenHan. I linked the videos below because I couldn't get them to embed properly :/]
Wong Yibo is the first revealed member of UNIQ and also the main dancer, rapper, visual and maknae. Kim Sungjoo is the main vocal and is said to have undergone 1400 days as a trainee.
Cho Seungyeon (born August 5th, 1996) is one of the vocalists for the upcoming boy group. Fluent in Korean, Chinese, Tagalog, and even Portuguese, he is said to be a known prankster. He, along with Kim Sungjoo, are the two Korean members of UNIQ. His video shows off his bright personality as fans see him pennyboarding around a college campus with a cheerful expression.
Li Wenhan (born July 22nd, 1994) from Hangzhou is another vocalist for UNIQ. Trading studying abroad in the United States to become a member of UNIQ, Li Wenhan has a background in classical guitar. In his video, he shows off his cool and sexy charm with an unmatched athleticism. Beginning from a running scene, Li Wenhan soon unbuttons his white collared shirt to jump into a swimming pool. Viewers get a glimpse of his chiseled body during this teaser, creating even more excitement for UNIQ’s debut.
The final member Zhou Yixuan will be releasing his teasers on September 24th.
The group is named UNIQ from the words “unique” and “unicorn” which symbolizes their pure spirit and represents they aim to bring a feeling of “the one and only.” They have an average age of 19 and an average height of 180 cm. UNIQ consists of Chinese members Wong Yibo, Li Wenhan and Zhou Yixuan and Korean members Kim Sungjoo and Cao Chengyan.
UNIQ had been undergoing intensive secret training for four years with days that run from 9AM to 4AM and will be promoting simultaneously in China and Korea. It is said that 100 million RMB has been invested in the upcoming group and expectations are high.

So I guess this is going to be sort of like YG's EXO? I'm still not sure what exact roles YG is going to take/has taken with this group. I know YG's been trying to expand into China so I'm guessing this is a joint investment and YG will probably handle Korean promotions and produce the group's music, but that's just speculation on my part. Their official YT says "UNIQ has been trained in YG. However, they are officially under YueHua Entertainment in China."

Kim Sungjoo looks cute. Li WenHan also looks good. I like how their promo vids are filmed liked ads.

I don't get the comparisons to EXO since this is ONE group who will promote in China and then Korea later...EXO didn't create Chinese promotions (and they're pretty terrible at sustaining them anyway)
Fun fact: all those trainee watchers were surprised Sung Joo wasn't on WIN and disappeared and then surprised when he showed back up at the trainee center a few months ago. They now speculate he was doing language training in China
Also I know people are saying Winner-Japan, iKon-Korea, Uniq-China but YG won't limit his money like that. Ikon has fan meetings in Japan, China, and Korea in October to push the "global" vote. Winner and iKon will go to Japan and China
