random, but fabien just rubs me the wrong way. i get that he's in korea so it's not odd for him to talk about how much he loves it there...but the way he practically boasted on happy together that he knows so much about korea's history and no french history like it was cute was so off-putting. then on hello counselor his 'concern' had a line that was something like "koreans say i'm korean and french people say i'm korean"....like boo. stop. just because you really enjoy a culture does not mean it's better than anyone else's, especially your own. that just screams "fetishization" to me somehow and ughhhh.

i appreciate when foreigners go on shows and use that as a platform to not only express their fondness for south korea, but save room for other conversation (enlightening people to other cultures/misconceptions is a plus too). idk why it gets me so worked up but eh lol.

Sometimes his comments seem really calculated too to make Korean people like him (e.g. his Dokko island comments). He seems very conscious about his status as a white male in South Korea and the advantages he has through it.

I get what you mean. I don't know about Fabien, but I've known people like that and it's irritating. I think it's just frustrating/embarrassing to watch someone 1. try so hard to be something they're never going to be (Korean) and 2. Reject who they actually are for whatever reason (they're embarrassed, think it's not as cool, etc.)

this is kinda ot but i wish glenn gogo was more well-known to both the korean and international audience. he's so nice and down to earth and not annoying compared to a lot of the foreigners who get famous enough to be on variety shows lol
