JYP Entertainment is looking for new songwriters and producers!

Hi /r/kpop,

Hope you're having a wonderful day! I'm posting an opportunity on behalf of JYP Entertainment for talented songwriters and producers to submit their work for a chance to get signed. We're running an open audition for songwriters and producers, and I thought it would be a great chance for members of the community to showcase their work. Genres we are looking for include Pop, Dance, Electronic, R&B, Soul, Ballad, Hip Hop, and Urban. Feel free to post any questions you might have in this thread as well (please try to keep them on topic), and I'll answer them as soon as possible. Additionally, if you know anyone who might be interested, even if they're not totally familiar with the Kpop scene, please let them know about this opportunity - the more the merrier!

I apologize for the lack of post history on this account! We (the JYP team based in Los Angeles) are long time readers/lurkers of reddit, but felt that we should create an account with an official name to represent the label. At any rate, I'm hoping to speak with many of you soon!

it's nice that they aren't only holding auditions for idol trainees tho~

That's not a great deal of money, but damn, this would be an awesome job.

Doesn't SM also do something like this? I think theirs is less of a contest and more of a "submit whenever" kind of thing though.

The money is just a bonus "prize" for signing with them. I assume they will offer a royalty percentage to whoever they sign, as is usual in these kind of agreements. That way the person who has a hand in creating the song benefits directly from its popularity.

Reddit is such a strange thing to me.

Can't they just contact people through agencies or something? Next thing they'll be hiring people from Tumblr. Soundcloud have a lot of inspiring producers too.

I wonder what direction the company will take now. I guess they will just give Got7 and 2pm music from foreigners to cater the fandom like SM.

IA I think it's kinda random to be hiring from reddit out of all places. I think it would be cool as to use tumblr & souncloud as a platform to scout up-and-coming artists that need the exposure( tumblr makes makes better graphics/edits anyway)

I don't think they're recruiting from reddit as much as spreading the word about their competition. I'm sure they want as many people to apply as possible because they have to give the prize to someone, and if only 2 people enter and they both suck.... well, welcome to JYP?

Yeah I think I'll do that. I took next week off to finish another demo (taking your advice to heart and picking the one I hum the most, i.e. the most annoying one, lol) and I put my favourite sound engineer on standby for proper mixing. I saw they ask for a 3rd demo if you pass the first round but I might not even get that far so I won't worry about that bit yet...

Also in case you don't win (although go for it, grab that prize!), that application process is live for the rest of the year too.
Plus all the other big companies have applications open non-stop for songwriters.

I have a list of entertainment companies and publishers I wanted to apply to, actually... that's why I have all these half-finished demos in the first place, heh. I was intending on submitting in the next few months but perhaps this comp (whether I enter it or not and regardless of how far I get) will be the kick in the ass that I need.
