“Liar Game” joins “Tomorrow Cantabile” (Nodame Cantabile) in the list of Japanese series that will be remade in Korea this year.
According to a statement made by a drama representative to iSPlus on August 26, the Korean adaptation of Japan’s “Liar Game” is set to air on cable channel tvN this October.
This information was confirmed with a representative from CJ E&M who said, “It is true that it will be completed by October. There will be a total of 10 episodes and it will follow ‘Valid Love.‘ ‘Liar Game’ is a popular series not only in Japan but in Korea as well so we plan to cast good actors. After finishing the casting work, we plan to begin filming next month.”
The remake of “Liar Game” will be written by Yoo Yong Jae of MBC’s “Time Between Dog and Wolf” and directed by PD Kim Hong Seon, who was in charge of OCN’s “Hero” and SBS’ “Warrior Baek Dong Soo.”
“Liar Game” is a live action adaptation of Kaitani Shinobu’s manga of the same title. The manga, which was first serialized in 2005 and was adapted into a TV series on 2007, is about Nao Kanzaki, a college student who’s honest to a fault. By a twist of fate, she got involved in a fictional “Liar Game Tournament” wherein contestants are encouraged to cheat and lie. The live action series had a second season aired on 2009. It also spawned two live action films that were shown in 2010 and 2012.

The original was soooo good and I just absolutely adore both Shota & Erika. I probably wont watch it since the drama is only good when you dont know the tricks. I dont think the Korean remakes going to work considering they always always failed in doing any Japanese remakes. :/
BTW OP, no need to do the poll since 'nope, Shota oppa >>> everyone' is too accurate for anyone not to choose it. :D

Date: 2014-08-27 02:46 pm (UTC)I should read the manga, too because I know the show breaks off from the storyline and changes up some of the characters.
I would be willing to give a Korean remake a shot depending on who they cast.

Date: 2014-08-27 03:17 pm (UTC)(ok, so I suppose my list of dramas not to touch are nagareboshi, bloody monday, liar game and idk, mabe voice, but that becuase I love the cast.... I haven't watched a jdrama since nagareboshi, I'm so out of it. then again my list of kdramas is like maybe 10 (lets see, IHYV, Coffee Prince, Bridal Mask, City Hunter, Dream High, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho,Queen In-hyun's Man, You're Beautiful, My Princess, that one with Siwon and the kid, half of Love Rain before it got all -unneeded plot twist-y- so its not like I be said to actually be a deciding factor in any of this. Recommendation for both is what I really need. Maybe then I can stop watching anime from like the late 90s/early00s. Not my fault I found the stuff I couldn't see as a kid, but wanted to on hulu.)

Date: 2014-08-27 03:37 pm (UTC)I dunno how to feel about this because Liar Game is absolutely one of my favorite jdramas of all time and korea has yet to make a successful kdrama adaption of a jdrama/manga. At least in my opinion. Shota and Erika did such a great job in Liar Game so it's very hard for me to see anyone play those roles.
What gives me slight hope is that it'll be airing on TvN which isn't too bad. sigh... I dunno we'll see I guess. But even if I do enjoy it, I know no other adaption could ever surpass the japanese version for me. I love it too much lol.
Also I wonder how the character fukunaga will be in the korean version. Will it be like in the manga or the jdrama.
One of my favorite scenes. I hope they play this game so we can have this scene again:

Date: 2014-08-27 07:14 pm (UTC)but imho, it's gonna be tough to enjoy it as a korean drama, but the japanese version was just SO good. korean dramas have a different style. they're so much slower, and tend to stretch out scenes a lot. the japanese version, second season, already stretched out a lot of their scenes, so i worry that the korean version will stretch out the first season and the second season even more. japan's liar game did the fine line of a fast-paced tense psychological thriller very well. /shrug/ i just don't think korean dramas does fast-paced dramas very well. plus, aren't kdramas usually 60 mins each episode? jdramas are only 45 mins each iirc.

Date: 2014-08-27 07:34 pm (UTC)Even though I'm not the biggest Shota's fan, no one can slay like him in that drama.......
Praying for "kazoku game" to stay without a remake.
