I was so excited when I saw that a new episode was subbed...didn't expect anything till Saturday.

This episode was so so so much better than the last, I laughed so much and every member had at least one time, where they talked for a while. The guests also fitted much more (the difference to Seho is really o.o ).

I would have liked it if Enes talked about his wife too (Alberto and he are the only married ones, right?), but Alberto was too cute talking about his wife and parents-in-law.

When I saw the preview I thought they would talk more about homosexuality, oh well. The closing comment from Hong Sukcheon was bittersweet, you could see he had tears in his eyes when he talked about how it gave him hope to dream of marriage. I'm glad that netizen comments have been good too.

Enes married a korean lady too. Married for 3 tears.
He mentioned it in happy together last week

this episode was so much better than last week and we have to partly thank the better guests for that.
Sth that grabbed my attention this episode is how the MC's were really making an effort to keep on track of the subject. In all the previous episodes the show deviated a lot from the actual subject, not saying it wasn't interesting though.

Alberto was so sweet talking about his marriage and how he charmed his in-law-family. Who wouldn't want a son-in-law like him. His wife is really pretty judging from the pictures.

I always feel bad when HSC talks about his 'struggle' of being gay. I have so much respect for him. The story about his friend 's marriage was bittersweet.

Ahn Youngmi is such a funny woman, I love the way she laughs and I understood her worry completely. It was a good subject to talk about.

I've noticed this episode that now Robin is getting pretty edits too, just like Alberto XD and that ducks x Julian are becoming a thing apparently XD

edit: forgot to mention how cute it is that Yuan and Takuya are close buddies now. They sometimes still take a stab at each other on the show but it's now more in a joking way now =D

Takuya and yuan was cute in this episode when tyler, guillaume and julian was correcting yuan's statement about the great wall being visible from space. Takuya was like, "i didnt say anything hyung~" and yuan "thanks" in really cute fonts lol

I really liked this episode and was looking forward to it so I'm glad it was subbed fast.
The guests were fun, they cut in at appropriate times. Yuan and Seokcheon's history together was fun.
I was surprised Robin said he would have trouble immediately accepting his sole son being gay. Keep noticing he's kinda conservative sometimes.

I agree about Robin. I hope that when netizens disagree with Korean MCs they also know G11 are representatives, and it applies for all of them. I liked when Guillaume said it wasn't a problem in Canada and turned on the light but that his personal thoughts were to get married.

Ugh they were doing okay for the first 60 minutes or watever of the show and then they fuck up.
How dare Enes sit in front of Sukchun and say stuff like that. Also disappointed w Robin's talk about ~bloodline~

...My goal in life is to meet Sukchun and tell him he's amazing. :C

I get your frustration, but keep in mind that there are various cultures and religions in the world. I don't think any of them were being offensive and they were just being completely honest.
You can't force your views, even if you think they're right, on someone that grew up in a culture and religion and doesn't think it's acceptable.
I felt like Enes was just expressing himself honestly without being offensive or hateful.

From: [identity profile] yejun.livejournal.com
You don't think Enes saying he'll never accept if his son is gay is hateful? I think the fact that he wouldn't accept his own son if he told him he was gay is a sign of the fact that he AT LEAST dislikes gay people/homosexuality.

Also, no I can't make everyone agree with me but I can still find people who don't dumb as shit and be angry about it.

I kind of liked the fact that everybody gave their own point of view even if it was to say what Enes says because, this way,it can open the debate and make the show non consensual. But hate is hate. What Enes says isn't an opinion,it is hate. i wish they would have debated more about that "opinion" in a respectful way.
I was really surprised by what Robin said about his bloodline but he said other things in the beginning of the episode so I don't mind too much...But still, it is a little weird!

From: [identity profile] sayufied.livejournal.com
Listen, the point of the show is to exchange cultural beliefs... if it's pissing you off so much or if you can't accept that someone in this world might have a different opinion than yours than it's simple... don't watch it.
cos what you're looking for beats the whole purpose of the show... so they can have different opinions on marriage or dependancy on parents or kids or cohabiting but when a topic (that they clearly involved everyone in beforehand) such as gay marriage is brought up and people exchange their different beliefs, you lose your shit?

Respect other people's views even if you don't agree with them.

Date: 2014-08-26 02:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] yejun.livejournal.com
The difference is though that views on whether getting married is an obligation or not or whether it's okay to live together before marriage ARE NOT the same as views on whether homosexuality is okay or not.

People CHOOSE to not get married/get married and live together/not living together. People do NOT choose to have whatever sexuality they have. Having NEGATIVE views/opinions about something that people cannot control is BULLSHIT (imo).

ALSO I really don't understand why only the people who don't get pissed off at things said on the show are allowed to watch it. YES it is a variety show and it's not meant to be taken 100% seriously but as I said there's a difference between the topics and how the opinions discussed on the show affect the people watching.

You're obviously not going to agree with anything I say though so I'm just going to stop wasting my time trying to explain it to you.

Date: 2014-08-26 03:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sayufied.livejournal.com
Okay, wait a sec, who said I'm not agreeing or whatever.
As you said, it shouldn't be taken 100% seriously while you're the one that got angry at someone expressing his opinion.

Listen... clearly you don't get how various religions or cultures work.
I'd get it if Enes was from a country or a society that views this issue as a necessity and a human right and prioritises it and he still is against it. However, I come from a culture similar to Enes' and I know what's it like there, how it's viewed, it's not publicised or talked about, it's seen as a blasphemy and a taboo... And you can't change it, it's not like the west... There are a lot of layers to the Turkish/Muslim society and you don't understand how collectivist it is, where everything revolves around society and the model citizen.

If you were talking to me, I wasn't pissed of that much so I feel a little weird about what you wrote to me!When did I "lose my shit"?
And like I said, homophobia isn't an opinion, like racism isn't an opinion,it is ignorance and hate and there is nothing good coming from this! I do respect other's opinion but I don't accept hate.Things will never change if we keep letting these ideas about homosexuality or racism spreading! That is why I wish they would have debate more about it. But I like this show very much!

A couple of the boys (even enes) teared up when sukchun was spilling his heart out. Im so happy that he seems comfortable enough to talk about on tv now and i know a huge part of what motivates him to be an advocate is because he knows he's inspiring others. He mentioned receving letters (or was it being told in person) from someone who thought about committing suicide bec he was gay but then he saw sukchun and that inspired him, and in turn inspired sukchun. ㅠㅠ

It was really sweet of alberto to post a pic on IG with sukchun after the episode air and said he was a great person.

Quality ep. There was a definite improvement in the guest choice this time around and, as a viewer, it was nice to see the natural interaction between them and the panel.
Concerning the 'marriage feeling like homework' issue. I agreed with the sentiment; Takuya's wishes of a wife who'd wholeheartedly cater to his whims only reinforced my initial opinion (really breh???). Perhaps I'd have different sentiments I were a guy. Actually, on that note, I'll just go ahead and give Sammy some love for stating he'd prefer if either partner gave 100%; appreciated the diplomacy. Tyler also spoke some truth on the subject (as usual) Always anticipate him dropping some knowledge.

My heart broke for Seokchun towards the end there. I respected the fact he and Enes were able to trade such diametrically opposed opinions and whilst I disagreed with Enes, hailing from a country where the LGBT+ comm exists in constant fear of violent persecution, I understood where he drew his opinions from because I too once bought into the ideology fed to me (Whew, boy, I was a hot mess). For the longest time, homosexuality was a distinctly foreign concept to me until I got the opportunity to experience a different environment and interact with individuals who didn't completely subscribe to heternormativity. I'm glad Seokchun got the chance to share his experiences, and (although this'likely sound a little silly) was given the platform to humanise the struggle for a wider audience. Hopefully that'll help oil the gears of change and he can revisit this particular memory with the privilege of being one half of a married hole!

my bad for the essay @__@

The thing about the proposal has always been something that has been confusing to me for years, I'm glad it was brought up. What was really surprising was to learn that a predetermined person catches the bouquet. How does that exactly work, raffle? Doesn't the concept behind catching the bouquet lose meaning then?

Man, people who police the womb. I know people around me who do that as well.

The saying that goes "Heaven is under the mother's feet" is actually Arabic lmao! It's coooool Enes, I guess that's what happens when you're colonised for more than 100 years.
Plus my cousin's name is Enes so no hard feelings bruhhh

The Australian is SOOOOO FIIIIIINE... dayumn !!

Great episode. So glad I started watching this show. When I saw that Seokcheon was guesting I thought the entire episode would pertain to homosexuality but I guess that would've gotten way too messy. I also guessed who would be for and who would be against homosexuality, needless to say, Enes didn't surprise me in the least... However there were way more people who accepted it than I had anticipated so that made me happy.

this episode was funny and interesting but there are a few things I didn't like ^^

I didn't like how they talked about Turkey at the beginning. Enes can be conservative, but it doesn't mean all Turkish people are like him. I've been there and western tourists are really free. what Daniel (Australia) said was totally a prejudice. Moreover Turkey is one of the few countries were the State and religion are legally separated, with France and Mexico. nobody ask you to do something you don't want. lol at them thinking you couldn't wear bikinis.

I also think Sam has opportunities to give a good image of Ghana but he always fails by not being serious. I mean, he can makes jokes, it's a tv show. like when he said there are a lot of dogs in his country. people have to stop thinking of Africa with lions everywhere. but in this episode when he said he searched on the internet it made it look like he wasn't serious. it was great opportunity to promote Ghana by talking of touristic places.

On the other hand I liked Hong Sukcheon for once. he was funny and serious at the end. when he expressed his feelings it was touching. because usually he's playing a character, he's always acting as the caricature of homosexual. what I mean is that homophobic people have a certain image of gay people, and Sukcheon plays this image. I don't know if I explain well but it looks like he is acting to fit what other people expect from him and to make them laugh.
When Enes said he would like his son to still be a man or something like that. I wish someone would have said homosexual men are also men, it's just that they like other men. but it could be the translation...

Am I the only one who thinks that way?

Date: 2014-08-26 05:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kittyboo17.livejournal.com
no, I agree with everything you said :)
men are men, doesn't matter if you're gay or not. I always gringe when someone says that a guy is less of a man than he is just because he is gay or may act a bit 'girly'.

I also find it sad how Sam doesn't take the opportunity to really promote his country. He is funny but that's about it actually. I'm quite disappointed that I ain't learning a lot of new things about Ghana and it's culture since there would be so much to talk about, I'm sure of that.

honestly i don't really care about the different view or opinion the cast members have because when you think another person's opinion is silly, that person would think the same about yours. so i just accept the differences. now i mostly watch it just for the boys and their bromance friendship.

and wow chinese wedding is super extravagant like oh my god 100 luxury cars?!

I was aware of the show but never actually watched it before so i thought i should give it a try.
I watched this and the previous episode and like most i vastly preferred this one.
Now i'm not sure if i like the show enough to keep watching, but i can say i like that they way the debate is civilised for the most part.

Question tho, how come everyone there is a dude? Like out of 11 (?) countries not a single woman?

(PS I could never understand that whole bloodline thing that last dude said when asked if you'd support your son if he was gay. Like it's not even a strictly gay issue. What if you have a child that can't have kids, or if they marry someone that can't have kids? Hell what if they don't want to have kids?
Not that i agree with what the Turkish guy said, but i've heard that crap all my life so)

I believe they chose an all male panel to differentiate the show from a really popular kbs variety show many years ago. Misuda is show that had female foreigners for the panel. It was very popular as well. During the promos (press con, articles, interviews) of Abnormal Summit, Misuda was always brought up my reporters asking for comparisons.

Aah thanks for the info.
So this feels like the male version of that show then. Still, i wish it was a mixed crowd, it would be more interesting.
