“Get styling~Ha Ra, Gu”… Gu Ha Ra’s Self Comeback Look

When you think about Gu Ha Ra, what kind of image does it come up to you?




"Lovely?"



"Sexy?"



"Feminine?"



"Chic?"


She is known as fashionista: she shines the brightest on stage. She displayed different styles in various performances such as lovely look in ‘Honey’, sexy look in ‘Pandora’ and mannish look in ‘Damaged Lady’.

In 2014, August, Gu Ha Ra came back; no…she came back as ‘KARA’. She was so stylish that her funky sexy look in ‘Mamma Mia’ has caught fans attention.

Women’s transformation is innocent! KARA’s transformation is innocent!

First of all, let’s hear ‘Mamma Mia’s concept from KARA’s stylist Choi Hui Seon. It was heard that she made a costume of KARA, by KARA, and for KARA."

It was not easy to determine their concept after only hearing the song, ‘Mamma Mia’, but after I saw their choreography, I got the feeling. KARA tried ‘Waacking’ dance this time and it required a number of arm movements. Therefore, I created clothes that were funky, sexy, but easy to move.”



‘Dispatch’ visited KARA’s style work shop in Seoul in 19th. She was discussing her concept with staffs and they participated in making the costume of ‘Mamma Mia’.

Her sense of style was better than that of a stylist. She unfolded materials of ‘Mamma Mia’ and conducted self-presentation: checked from sketch to a fabric.

☞ D-day of ‘Mamma Mia’ come back
Before the first comeback stage, she did final check-up. Due to their member change, it was said she cared more than before. First of all, let’s see KARA’s items~


“My eyes were changed? I wore color lens to make sexy eyes: brown, blue, grey and so on. We changed color lens every time depending on the clothes.” (Gu Ha Ra)


“Accessory emphasizes individuality. We tend to wear custom-made jewelry like rings covering the joint of a finger or big gem rings.” (Gu Ha Ra)

☞ Now let’s focus on Gu Ha Ra’s style.
She and Choi Hui Seon stylist described features of costume, and we had short talks about the ‘Mamma Mia’ style.


☞ No. ① item is khaki-colored top & high waisted short pants.



Gu Ha Ra: Let me introduce ‘Mamma Mia’s genre first: it is electro swing. So, I wanted to show funky style. I suggested our stylist the designs that I saw in the look book.
Choi Hui Seon: Gu Ha Ra has great interest in fashion. Thanks to her, I could think of ‘Mix Match’ style. She was such a great assistant.
Gu Ha Ra: I was so pleased to see her costume. It was so unique: for example, she added mesh and leather on the basic fabric. Actually, croptop was so common, but ours was unique.

Choi Hui Seon: For example, we could give lovely eyelet detail on the funky designed costume. I did the punching and tied up, and wanted to deliver the feeling that we also cared about the costume.

Gu Ha Ra: It looked similar to No. ① costume, but not the same, right? The biggest point lies in neckline.
We made Y neckline to emphasize the collarbone.

Choi Hui Seon: Each member has merits and demerits. Gu Ha Ra has beautiful shoulder, so every clothes look good on her. This time I gave Y neckline to emphasize the collarbone.

Gu Ha Ra: I’ll explain other members costume. Han Seung Yeon has beautiful neck line, so halter neck looks good on her. Park Gyu Ri does not like something stuffy, so prefers to wear V neck style of clothes.

Choi Hui Seon: Whenever I make the girl group’s costume, the detail is not hard to predict. As for the top, the detail would be V, U, X. However, Gu Ha Ra tried Y line.

☞ No. ② costume is her favorite clothes. She wore a new clothes and showed choreography of ‘Mamma Mia’ right on spot. Don’t miss it.

☞ No. ③ costume is ‘So Good’ and the concept is ‘Pin-up Girl’.



Gu Ha Ra: ‘So Good’ is bright and funky song, so its look has to be lovely and charming. That’s why I asked to wear pin-up girl style clothes.
Choi Hui Seon: They showed funky and sexy style in ‘Mamma Mia’ and displayed lovely aspect in ‘So Good’, so pin-up girl concept was perfect just like Gu Ha Ra suggested.
Gu Ha Ra: Matching the color of top and shoes were the most important and that could make the pin-up girl style more charming.

Choi Hui Seon: We had worked really hard to turn retro aspect into lovely and charming. So, we matched the fabric of top and hair band.

Actually, her secret weapon was in elsewhere: it is tools (?) inside the carrier. The carrier had various items including tapes, folding fans, accessories and so on.
