Jo Seho was probably the most talkative guest yet. I guess it's the sign of a show getting popular when there is really obvious drink advertisement. The pretty looking drinking bottles were so obvious for me I had trouble looking past them in the beginning XD (that sentence looks really weird to me but my English is failing me today)
I feel like this episode was of a lesser 'quality' as the previous ones. It bothered me a bit just how much the SK ranking system was defended. The premise of this show is that everyone should give their opinion about a subject based on their own culture. I felt like many had kind of 'forgotten' that because they now live in SK and have adapted to that part of its culture (not saying that's a bad thing, not at all, I find it necessary). At some point I felt a bit sad for Julian because he was almost the only one who really tried to form an opinion against the ranking system based on his European/Belgian culture (I know Robin and Daniel too but they weren't as vocal as Julian).
This was the episode I enjoyed the least so far. welp. Didn't really like Se Ho cutting people off with irrelevant comments and stories either. After all that discussing I still don't get the need for rankculture and company dinners. I'm too European I guess. Next week should be fun though. fun guests.
yeah, me neither. Even if the episode was longer than 1 hour, the discussion about this really important and interesting aspect of Korean culture felt superficial. A lot of points which were made seemed idealistic like that sunbaes treat you well and that you are working with the aim to develop your country.
I was hoping people would talk about the positives of a a western/european system especially when it came to the part about after work events and drinking. Idk if the portions where someone did were cut or what but that bothered me.
Also, where in the U.S. is Tyler from? I suddenly feel like this is important because I've been racking my brain for what in the world the informal way of saying "you" is. I feel like I maybe missed something there. Is he saying that slang is informal English and instead of saying, "what are you doing?" some people may say, "what ya doing?". Idk, it's bothering me sooooo much!
I don't get how staying overtime can be viewed good/respectful in Korea. Because longer work hours does not equal better productivity. If anything it wastes everyone's time and money. Not even getting into company dinners :D
Europe talking, but it's more disrespectful to hang around late at work doing nothing ang getting paid for overtime, or, not getting paid but it's still kissing the boss' ass and there could be people there who actually have work to do. And if the job requires more hours then it's not the employee's problem, better planning or more people needed. And SK needs to understand that and not hire another person who will do the work of 2 people.
I wasn't feeling this episode. We didn't see much variation of opinion. I think it's because they are getting too conscious about the popularity. Out of all the topics, this is the most inherently Korean concept.
I hope the extra-sensitivity to Korean culture is not a trend.
I was pretty indifferent to Seho on roommate, but he's grating on my nerves here....The way he tells his stories like he has a catalog full of them and just puts them out like he is on stage performing a show, or how he interrupts the discussion flow with stories which are barely connected to the topic or how he seems really ON to catch every opportunity/break, where he can squeeze in some more air time for himself.
I know that the material of probably 5 hours gets cut in the editing room, so I also blame the team to emphasize the guest that much, even when it is the whole concept of the show to introduce foreigner's views on various topics.
I teared up a bit at Enes' story about his friend's mother :(
Everyone -be it the table or the team behind the cameras- seems to have a soft spot for Alberto xD Now it's not only the cute annotations every time he speaks, but a dog pops up. And lmao at them shipping Alberto/Daniel complete with ship name.
And lastly, Sam needs to step up his game a little bit for me. His comments sometimes seem condescending to me and more often than not Sam only contributes superficial comments to the discussion or throws out his signature phrases when he really has nothing to say at all. I know he is smart with his scholarship and learning korean so fast, so it might be the language barrier...but yeah, hopefully he will get better.
Oh, and I'm glad that Robin and Alberto are talking a lot more now, especially Robin. He was sweet before, but now it seems like he has a personality.
After I read the netizen's reactions to this ep last week, I expected worse from SSK. I understand the points in the comments, but it was a bit blown up for me.
And really really last, I am a bit disappointed that they didn't talk more about the negative sides of the whole workplace hierarchy thing, like bullying, physical abuse and doing a lot of overtime without pay . The Korea-praise was strong this episode. You can see that by now they are definitely aware of the attention they get.
article about this episode with knetz comments (http://kpopkfans.blogspot.ca/2014/08/this-weeks-abnormal-summit-faces-harsh.html)
Really did not like this episode at all. The only actual critique was coming from Julian, though I saw Robin trying to get in there too but he just couldn't:( They were defending Korean values on the topic too much. Basically knetz are me this episode. SSK was being so annoying and condescending. I'm not even going to get into Seho. I honestly didn't mind the guests because until now they've been harmless but Seho's attention seeking got to me. I'd like it if they just got rid of the whole guest thing since they don't really add anything anyways.
Anyways I was disappointed by this episode especially since last week's was my favourite so far. Next episode will hopefully fare better. It'll be discussing homosexuality and marriage so that'll be interesting.
Eh i didnt care much for this episode. But i was worried it'd get worse from here on out but the next episode i enjoyed a lot
Jo seho is my least fave so far. I think he's never seen the show and did the usual stuff he does in other variety shows. Trying to be overly funny with body gags. Not cute tbh. I think Haha is my fave guest so far.
Just saying it absolutely warms my heart than Tyler/Zhang yuan and Takuya have their own clique when Zhang Yuan initially felt indifferent to those two just bec they're American and Japanese. Tyler nominated Zhang Yuan and Takuya and they both did the ice bucket challenge together. Zhang yuan and tyler have also been seen hanging around.
The boys are also in a bunch of magazine spreads for this month. Good for them.
I guess they just really had to invite this comedian, cause he's friends with the producer. Oh well. It was a boring episode, but at least it made me think.
Yuan wasn't as hateable as usual.
Europe speaking here, too. The rank/cast/hierarchy is there everywhere, wether you feel like poiting it out (Korea) or not (Netherlands). Oh, even here there is formal and informal language. Other than that, you can say no to one company dinner, or two company dinners in Europe, but you do have to attend at least some of them, otherwise they think you're a weirdo/completely disloyal to the company. Yeah they won't only invite you last minute, they'll send a timely invite, but the point is still there, you have to go and eat/drink with the colleagues. It's just part of office culture everywhere. And let's not go into the Christmas office parties and all that stuff. It's the same thing as in Korea, it's just disguised cause they announce it earlier.
Back on the rank thing... It's more based on social class than age in Europe, but it's still alive and makes me wonder how people think it's much different from pronounced ranks.
Seho in this? Ugh he's so annoying But the next chapter is a lot better, I guess the PD's are reading the comments This episode wasn't that funny, Seho talks too much, this is not happy together -.-
If there's something they're doing right though, is that they're really involving their audience through social media. Fanarts, fan gifts. Show's official twitter handle replies to comments. The staff keeps the fans updated about the boys through twitter and instagram as well. And the boys are learning that social media can be a powerful too for promotion esp since they're the current hit commodities. Everyone just wants to know more about them.
In trecent weeks, there seems to be a lot of specials about foreigners. 별바라기 just had a foreign fan special for sistar and 4minute. (Robin guested and he was so cute. He was dying in happiness dancing next to Hyorin) abnormal Summit's impact tbh.
Was also surprised to learn Enes guested quite a number of times in Quiz Around The World. Even daniel (australia) guested on that show.

I'm trying to figure out if Americans are anti-social compared to the other social eating work cultures. My office will have lunch events for going aways and the like but when work is over everyone is going HOME
It depends on the company and people. I work for a school district and we have a lot of parties, only two is after work though, employee recognition dinner and Christmas dinner. We have birthday, goodbyes, chase the bad weather away, and Valentines Day luncheons. All are potluck though, because we can't use public funds for anything, even a fridge because teachers would start complaining.
My sister has a BBQ at her workplace every Thursday.
Robin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGAnSYHu-kk&feature=youtu.be) Tyler (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fqFUa3xCWw&feature=youtu.be) he nominated Zhang Yuan and Takuya:) Zhang Yuan and Takuya (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=em-share_video_user&v=GWnlX_FvfWY&app=desktop) Julian (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=392946777504174&set=vb.383617475103771&type=2&theater) Enes doing it on Lee Yeongja (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=620140814769208&set=vb.100003198845004&type=2&theater)
Like everyone else here this episode was my least favorite. There were too many conversations going on at once, and it got sidetracked way too many times to things that didn't matter. Seho really just added to the problem imo. I like him, but it probably wasn't the best decision to come on this particular type of show. Plus the whole bit about him having to use the bathroom and interrupting the flow of the conversation really irked me.
EDIT: Also went to read knetizens' reactions on the next episode, and oh my word the comment section from some of the international fans are so messy and infuriating.
i didn't like this episode. I did read the knetz comment before it and I do agree with them. Seho is such a ruiner in the show. Sung si kyung keep cutting off Julian which annoys me a lot.
Seem like the next episode seem more promising based on the knetz comments.
Eh, reading these comments and the general reaction/critiscm, I think I'll just pass on this episode.
I read a knetizen comment about the MC's need to keep a neutral front, and I had forgotten about that. They really should be less opinionated.
I am glad Julian took a stand and stuck with it. Having the most experience in the industry I think he just knows how fickle the industry is and that playing it safe doesn't make you an instant fave.
As someone who can relate to both sides of the issue (the Asian and Western way of working), I'm ok with this episode. Sure it was quite lopsided, but I can understand the guys shielding themselves this time. The rank system is fundamental in Korean culture, so by voicing objections against it, their supervisors will get pissed (especially for those working in companies). As Daniel L mentioned, the array of work they can take in SK is not too wide so they probably want to keep their jobs for now. The other issues like independence and sex ed may not affect them that directly, so they can air their opinions freely.
The MCs always had their own opinions so I'm fine with them voicing out, though it will be good if they can acknowledge the other side of the argument and agree to disagree. Perhaps the rank/loyalty is so ingrained in Hyun Moo and Si Kyung that they can't see the other side of it, but I wonder why no one brought it up - not having rank culture doesn't mean you don't respect your elders. You can still respect your elders, but not take shit from people trying to boss you around just because you're a year younger.
