BIGBANG’S T.O.P, AKDONG MUSICIAN, 2PM’S NICHKHUN OPT OUT OF ALS “ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE” AND DONATE INSTEAD



BIGBANG’S T.O.P, Akdong Musician, 2PM’s Nichkhun and others have decided to opt out of participating in the ALS “ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE” and have instead chosen to donate.
In messages posted on BIGBANG and Akdong Musician’s Facebook pages, the three artists explained that they would not be participating in the challenge but rather donating money to the foundation instead.

They urged fans to also look into supporting two foundations, the ALS Korea Association and the Hope Foundation.

2PM’s Nichkhun left a similar message on his Twitter, saying he did not wish to waste water and would instead be donating to the cause.

The three join hundreds of other celebrities who have joined in on supporting ALS and creating awareness to help find a cure.

OT but this whole ice bucket challenge thing is totally turning into a fad - some people are doing it just 'cos it's THE thing to do. LOL at Nickhun's reply - that was my exact initial thought about this whole thing ... 'so you're wasting water to create awareness or simply just cos you wanna avoid donating?!' #partypooper

Lots of celeb did both: donating and doing the challenge,
but IA some are doing it to raise awareness to themselves
I was surpised by the amount of people who didn't know why it's the "ice bucket challenge" and not something else.

Major respect to those who did both (donating + drenching thyself in ice water, just so to create awareness for the cause). But sadly doing things like this always has its pros and cons, and sooner or later the main purpose is gonna get lost when too many people get involved without knowing its real purpose.

i don't really get the whole "wasting water" argument but that's probably because water is ridiculously abundant where i live.

i do think the videos are a good idea bc they bring tons of awareness, it just shows by how much ppl have been donating now compared to last year. I don't think it's all that terrible if some idiots are just doing it because it's become a fad.

It can be a problem in some country
Angie Harmon had a disclaimer at the begining of her video she is in california rn (I think) and they have a drought so she did the challenge (and donate money) over some plants that needed to be watered

Huum, I'm not sure they have a drought rn but if it's like here, we have a few campaign to sensibilize people on (not) wasting water and how it's an important ressource and such

There's no drought in Korea right now I can assure you of that. It's the rainy/typhoon season now so it's raining every few days and also it's so hot and humid we're sweating rivers in here.

Prob worth remembering that Nichkhun is half-Thai and supply of treated water is a genuine concern in Thailand.

IDK where I'm from we've always got our govt telling us to 'save water' and we've got campaigns all around - and I guess I was raised since childhood with a mindset that wasting (be it water or food or anything else that matters) is a major no-no. SAVE THE EARTH, PEOPLE!!! And another member already commented as to wht Nickhun might have made the save water comment too.

And I get that there's always a few bad apples, but since the initial purpose was for a good cause it irks me to see it turning into a fad.

yeah like i said, because of where i'm from i don't understand it. we have water flowing out of the ground everywhere, even in the city. Both cold and hot. My house is on the side of a hill and there are literally 3 streams running underneath our house in pipes. But i do understand that this isn't the case everywhere.

Nah it's really "instead", but some people chose to do both
When it started the challenge was "ice bucket" or "donating", not everyone gave money, but it helped raise awareness.
You also have people like GD who have been donated even before this event (GD donated las year too)
