Sooyoung's video is one of my favorites bc its very genuine and she seems to really care about the cause. A lot of these videos are entertaining but a lot of them don't even mention what its for or go into detail. I knew there was a reason she is my snsd fave.

Sooyoung is such an angel ;_; and she really believes in the cause and I'm happy that she's not only doing the challange just because she was challanged but because she wants to raise awarness for it.
I think the challanges are kinda...well stupid (but I honestly think this because half of the people I see doing are on my facebook page and are doing it just for free dinners....) but I'm happy high profile personalities are raising awarness for this.

Many people do both the challenge and the donating. Also, the whole point of the water is that it's supposed to temporarily simulate the paralysis that ALS patients feel. Between that and how much traction the entire campaign has gotten (incredibly large donations overall), it's actually doing a pretty good job. And let's be real -- how much is one bucket of water compared to an extra minute or two in the shower?

Depends, california is going through a drought and a lot of young people are simply doing it for showing off on facebook or twitter without actually donating to the cause, so it's kind of frustrating to see that.

I understand the point behind the challenge, and it's currently raised over $30 million for ALS, but that does NOT stop it from being the wrong way to go about it.
In total it's wasted an extortionate number of gallons--not just a little bit. Six million gallons of water worldwide. Six million gallons is not just an extra minute or two in the shower, unless everyone is already having extremely long showers. Six million gallons is the beginning of a serious worldwide problem.

For example California is in a severe state-wide drought. Their crops are drying up and part of their drinking water was poisoned recently. Yet people there are doing the challenge, which is a waste of their reserves. People there can be fined up to $500 for wasting water, but they're doing this challenge anyway. The Californian Governor did the challenge himself--right in front of a "conserve water" sign.

Wasting water is awful when you think of people in India who only have one cup of water for their baby each day if they're lucky. The amount of babies in India and African countries who die each day from thirst is horrific.
Even at the moment, the refugees from Iraq and the people of Gaza desperately need water.
And yet we've wasted six million gallons?

It's FAR better to not do the challenge and pay the $100 forfeit than it is to do the challenge. Water is not replenished easily for many places in the world. Cyprus turns off its taps in summer to conserve water because they don't have enough rain. Some countries have to buy water from neighbouring countries. You may think this challenge is good--of course it's good for ALS sufferers, the money raised is amazing! But it's NOT good for the world.

(I was saying it would be far better to, if we must do the challenge, collect the water that doesn't soak the clothes of participants, purify it, bottle it and send it to countries without water. That way we get to give water to those who need it as well as experiencing the shock of paralysis.)

I get that it's a waste of water. And yea, the focus should definitely be on donating.

But without the challenge part with the visual and (just gonna call it what it is) entertaining element, I doubt it would have gone viral and gotten more people to donate. The organisers should probably have come up with a different challenge that didn't waste a precious resource.

Aww as expected from Sooyoung! I honestly first heard about ALS / Lou Gehrig's disease from her Park Seung Il stories years ago (remember there's a wank because Sooyoung and her bible study group took some cute pics with him? Good times lol)

Hyo is so cute when she nominated LSM. Also, bless her for nominating Jjong too. Anyway, I'm glad that this challenge went viral and raise a lot of awareness and money for the cause.
