Song Hye Kyo opened up about her recent tax evasion controversy.

Before the press conference began for the film My Palpitating Life on August 21, Song Hye Kyo opened up to share her thoughts on the recent tax evasion issue.

Song Hye Kyo said, “I should’ve brought this up earlier but I couldn’t because I was staying overseas. I wrote down what I’m going to say on paper so that I don’t miss out on anything. I hope you understand.”

She started, “I’m sorry to be bringing up something unpleasant at a place where I should be discussing the movie. But I decided that it is my duty to talk about the issue as soon as I can so I asked for the understanding of the production team beforehand.”

She said, “I know that what happened in the past, no matter how you try to understand it, is my fault. I was to fulfill my duty as a citizen, but made a big mistake due to my carelessness. I received an investigation two years ago and was shocked when I found out there had been an error in the tax report. And I was scared. I wanted to straighten things out and worked hard not to leave any room for any suspicion. But I don’t think that it resolved everything because it was my duty to do so.”

Song Hye Kyo also shared, “I contemplated whether it’s right for me to stand on this spot or not but I thought hiding or avoiding could further cause damage to the movie. I think it is another duty of mine to accept words of advice and warning and try to not cause any damage to the movie.”

Song Hye Kyo said, “I apologize to the director, cast members and the audience to have affected the movie, which many people worked hard to produce. The movie is a product that many people worked on. I ask that you blame my mistake solely on me.”

Lastly, she said, “I apologize once more for my mistake. It has been and will be my key to happiness to not be greedy, not to hurt anyone and to live by doing good things. There is no reason for me to lose all of that and my happiness just to avoid paying three years’ worth of taxes. I hope that you would trust me on this at least. I am sorry once more to have worried you.”

See but I'm curious about what else is going on in Korea because all these old incidents being released lately. The tax case was fully investigated and resolved two years ago and is coming out now for no reason. Bom's case was 4 years old.

It is very curious and I don't think it should be in the news either

welp i don't think it's a coverup right now because both park bom and song hye gyo's cases were revealed during the investigations of other politicians.

Probably the best apology i've read from a kceleb since forever. Best as in, i feel the sincerity and buy it.

yup hence me often called out as being on some "crusade to defend korea from being an inherently backward nation" as someone said :P
a lot of this is lost in translation and maybe the netizens (and i) are too twisted to take her words in a genuine matter but while she was apologizing she seemed to trivialize the whole thing as a simple mistake.

then it's you and me I have been called a lot of names for the so called defending sigh!! I wish the discussion on a lot of these sites would stop just looking it from a western historical political perspective.
.

I don't know if you have heard of NYAN (not your average netizen) podcast we usually post our episodes here on Omona. Like you said a lot is lost in translation That's why I want to ask if you would like to join our podcast for a longer period or maybe just 1 one episode . You can not speak for all of Korea but you probably could give a deeper insight into the Korean psyche and maybe broaden the perspective of the discussions we have.

what do you think??

haha yeah your voice is a given but you can be as anonymous as you like. The fun thing about the podcast is that none of the cast has to be there every week. A couple members of the cast have only been in one episode, it's pretty chill. We can talk about it later in October by that time you probably have made up your mind :)

K girl but I just don't like tax evasion at all, especially when you hide behind charity work. Either way my palpitating life will def suffer, but then again all of her films in Korea have flopped so idk.
