I've only watched the first part so far, but I love how they don't shy away from any topics, sex education is very important to have and I'm glad they brought up rape and abortion onto the debate as well because it can often get glossed over when discussing it. Bless Tyler for being a sort of voice of reason I find myself siding with him and Julian a lot during these debates.

I knew before they even pressed the button that Zhan and Enis would go ahead. But at least I understood where Enis was coming from, I was expecting a really conservative perspective from him but it just came from a logical stand point, I guess. Zhan... well, already expected lol.

And LOL at the porn discussion. Germany and Japan know where it's at. Daniel2 is a nice addition. Is Daniel1 the one that had a shady online thing recently?

Oh and I cringed a bit when Skull came in, eek.

/long comment is long

I seriously love this show. I wish they had air this on KBS or even Mnet so that it could have a bigger international following.

I think this episode has to be my favorite conversation yet, especially coming from the previous episode about pursuing dreams which was a little hard to discuss culture wise. I'm glad Tyler brought up the fact that not all sexual encounters are pleasant, I think in general he really does a good job in steering the conversation and getting people to look at other sides of the question.
I believe Enes sometimes just enjoys playing devils advocate and going against the crowd.

Slightly OT but still OT, I was watching old 2ne1 performances and noticed something. Is that not Julian acting as a DJ at 7:40.

Julian works as a dj and model.
I think he goes by "aboutjulian" for his dj gigs.
He's debuted as a kpop singer many years ago and was in movies/variety shows but this show is definitely his big break.
I think he's part of the half of the members who are going to pursue the entertainment industry with their new found fame the other half works in companies and have full time jobs/school.
He did talk about how "it's important to have other jobs and not just do tv work bec people can be fickle and you can lose everything in a day" with fabian on I Live Alone

Okay too much info sorry.

Robin appeared in an episode of infinity girls in 2013.
Enes did a movie, appeared on quite a bit of variety shows, some famous ones too (even going as far back as Misuda, the sort of female version if this show on kbs), i think Alberto did some modeling as well in the past but not as much as the others.
Some of the guys have known each other for years. Enes and julian have known each other for about 3 or 4 years. And they've both known hyunmoo for a while too.

He was a news anchor in china before.
But now, he works in an afterschool academy in korea.
Like tutoring i guess?
I saw tons of photos of him in class floating around the internet, probably taken by his students lol

oic. i'm curious to know why he left what seems to be a promising career. while in my country, usually, college students that take up a tutoring job like that as a part time job.

Slighly related: What I gathered based on his comments that made it on air on this show is that he was critical of the Chinese government while in China. No clue why he went to Korea of all places.

right. it's totally interesting to find him teaching, in korea, after all his hard work for his study and the career he had in china.

Well uhmm, korea has all those hakwon's. Like afterschool academies that prepare kids for their SATs. It's like another classroom setting after their regular school and not the one on one kind of tutoring. Very competitive industry and i think the schools like to get teachers with really good "specs" bec if parents here about that teacher in that academy than all the neighborhood kids will be enrolled in that school. Like what hyunmoo mentioned in this episode.

I think what we have here is very much the same like those in korea. But i still rarely see someone make it their career. Unless ofc they're the one who owns the institution. It's interesting

I've loved the show since the first episode and each one is just as funny and interesting, but I'm getting a little annoyed at how they go off-topic and then forget about the original agenda - I hope the show gets more organized and idk why more people aren't watching it omg it's hilarious

aww James at the end :)

I'm glad this show doesn't shy away from topics like sex education, because in my opinion it's a necessity. So thank you to Haha for bringing the subject into the show.

I didn't know porn was illegal in SK. I'm surprised because porn is often used in jokes in SK and they like talking about it in a humoristic way. For example G.O.'s 'pigeon file' XD

you may call me weird but I actually looked it up
it's legal to possess porn but illegal to distribute it o_O
basically, it's against the law to earn money with any kind of pornography and it can get you into jail for a few years

Thanks for posting these, OP. When I first watched this show I was really suprised at how much I like it. It's very refreshing to see them address these things that are usually taboo so openly and it's interesting to see the differences between the countries. Sometimes I get a bit frustrated with Enis' viewpoints though lol, he's so conservative.

I really like this show. I wish they had tried to stay more on topic this week though. It was interesting but I feel like Korea's school system could have it's own episode rather than only discussing it for a while during this ep. Oh well.

Also, I can't take Zhang Yuan seriously anymore. I just stop listening whenever he speaks. At least with Enes I can see where he comes from although I rarely (if ever) agree with his opinions.

Thanks OP!

I really liked this episode. There was more fluidity in the discussion and the topic connected with the show's theme better. Although it was great, there was a part that annoyed me. Most of the guys were agreeing with the idea that guys should learn to protect girls.... I wasn't sure if the intention was about sexual protection for both partners or if we're still going to continue with the patriarchal bullshit?

It's official. My dad's spirit animal is definitely Enes. His brand of conservatism matches so much with him. There are times I get where he comes from and then there are moments when I just want to laugh at his statements.

I actually liked Alberto talking about protecting girls, cause in the preceding part they only talked about girls in contexts like "girls should learn how not to get pregnant", which shouldn't only be the girls' problem. So I took it as if it was about sexual protection.

Date: 2014-08-17 02:26 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jxsica.livejournal.com
Mte. I took it to mean more-so...it's not just girls that need to actively protect themselves, but guys need to think about girls as well and not just what they personally want. Protection as in, more like respect too. They also need to take responsibility.

This episode again had ups and downs, it was more tightly cut than before, though.

Anyone else noticed how the Chinese and Japanese flags were switched back while Takuya was playing and Yuan singing?

The part that I found most interesting personally was the part about corporal punishment.
In my home country, Hungary, corporal punishment was banned in 1993. All of my teachers in primary school were people who were used to corporal punishment, some of them still struggling to find new methods to replace punishment. One of them were really close to hitting kids every day, only stopped his hands (or shoes with wooden soles) very close to the kids' head. "I don't actually hit you, cause I'm not allowed to do so anymore. If we were in 1992, I'd hit you."

A few years later teachers were banned from excluding kids from class. Before that, if someone disturbed the others, they would just tell them to go to the library or go home.

My brothers still went to school when corporal punishment in Hungary was alive and well. I feel sorry for them.

I could go on and on, but... Corporal punishment is just not okay. I'm with Germany on this. It makes it seem as violence was a solution. It never is. It just puts a mask on the bad teacher's faces.

For this reason it was sad to watch how many of the guys thought it was okay.

Also teared up when Takuya talked about his granny.

Then again, it was an interesting watch, and the rest of the show I really enjoyed.

Look at ZhangxTakuya having special stage together <3

But seriously I'm done with Enes. I don't care how articulate and fluent in Korean you are. Your arguments are bullshit. Archaic and awful opinions. I think he bugs me more than Zhang yuan because he's from country that's part of European culture and there's no excuse for him.

When they brought up sandals and white socks I died. They went straight for heavy ammo.

Ahhh, I love this show. They're all so entertaining. Sam is so funny and Tyler always speaks well and brings up some really great points for discussion. Oblig 'Robin is a prince' comment.

This was a really good episode.
Although I didn't agree with everything, I found most of their views really refreshing.
I think it was great that it was acknowledged that it's not just girls that need to learn to protect their bodies, but guys need to learn how to respect women, and also that rape can happen in relationships.
I think Yuan and Enes must be very naive to think that sheltering kids from sex education is going to prevent them from watching porn and having sex.
