Wonder Girls’ Ye Eun shared her honest thoughts on working in the entertainment industry.

Having released her first solo mini album Me? on July 31, Ye Eun returned under the name of ‘Ha:tfelt.’ She wrote, composed and produced the entire album herself. Wonder Girls′ Lim and Beenzino both featured in the album and Yubin participated in the music video as well as the director for the documentary, catching a lot of attention.

In an interview held on July 30, Ye Eun shared on having returned with slimmer body through continual exercise and dieting.

She said, “The other singers at my agency have been calling me a ‘visual singer’ as a joke since I succeeded in losing weight. But I think I still lack in many ways to be called a ‘visual singer.’”

“I think there is no other word that can describe me other than Ha:tfelt. In 2012, producer Park Jin Young told me, ‘Ye Eun, you can become a singer like Beyonce.’ I think he wanted me to become a performing singer then, a singer who can sing and dance well. Six months later, he told me to challenge myself in making my own album. I wanted to become a singer like Beyonce but I also wanted to be an artist who produces so I thought about which direction I should take. Instead of following someone’s footsteps, I would like to be remembered as solo singer Ye Eun to people.”

Ye Eun was an artist full of desires. She also nodded to that comment.

Ye Eun said, “There are many people who ask me, ‘Ye Eun, how come you’re so greedy?’ I used to want everything in the world. I wanted to make lots of money, be good in music and wanted to look beautiful. But now I only desire the amount that can be covered by my passion.”

She continued, “I wanted to become a great star in the past. I also wanted to become someone very beautiful. But now, I’m satisfied to be someone who is good at self-management. I could be someone who makes a big hit song but I want to be someone who can write songs that can be listened to for a long time. I’m still struggling between my greed and passion but I want to do my best within my passion ad step forward.”

The first track in her album called Iron Girl is a song that she wrote after watching the movie Iron Man 3. The word ‘Iron Girl’ repeats throughout the song.

About this, Ye Eun said, “This is a song about myself. I was very touched by the movie. The character in the movie is very ordinary compared to the other heroes with the superpowers. I, too, struggled a lot as I carried out my activities. I wasn’t pretty compared to the other celebrities and wasn’t extraordinarily talented in singing or dancing. I didn’t have a lot of talent, either. I asked myself, ‘what am I,’ many times.”

She added, “In the movie, when Iron Man’s suit malfunctions, there is a line saying ‘But you can make one.’ As I watched the scene, I also thought that I’m someone who can make music and that my music can be greater than the ones written by other singers. Park Jin Young PD doesn’t like the song himself."

"He asked me, ‘Did you struggle when you promoted as Wonder Girls?’ and told me he doesn’t like me talking about the times when I struggled. But I liked that fact that I can express the tough times I had through a story, a project," said Ye Eun. "It’s a song that expresses the story of when I was promoting as Wonder Girls. I’ve put down the title of Wonder Girls now and could think that I lost everything but the song expresses my will to overcome that.”

About the title song Ain’t Nobody, which is a rock ballad song, Ye Eun said, “I think it’s a song that shows who I am. The topic of the lyrics is love and I think the most important thing in this world is love. It has elements of rock with a bluesy melody but it also has some hip-hop parts too.”

Ye Eun will continue to carry out her solo activities through music programs.

About her goal as Ha:tfelt, she said, “I would like to make an album that can be loved for a long time. I will challenge myself in various types of music. I want to become a singer who does music that people are curious about and can count on.”

She's talked quite a bit about how she had to argue with JYP about the songs in her mini, and from those, which would be promoted. I remember her saying she wrote an eleven page letter explaining every song's presence in the album.

... They're also not talking, from what she said. Quite the eventful backstory to the album.

Wasn't the last bit more humorous than serious though? The general impression I've gotten from this whole backstory is that they discussed what her mini would have (both artistically and in relation to reception) at length. They disagreed many times and Yeeun explained herself on multiple occasions, yes, but at the end JYP did give her the green light -- I mean, the mini does exist now containing what it does. IDK, there's been some thinking recently about how JYP's stifling his artists' creativity and how he doesn't know what he's talking about, but he's seemed pretty reasonable throughout. Again, the mini exists in its current state which speaks for itself IMO.

That's true. Since I'm relying on translations of articles, the tone of what she says isn't conveyed very well. You're certainly right, though, the mini exists, so even if JYP objected to it, he still gave her the go ahead. That shows he has at least some trust in her.

Re-reading that, it looks like it comes off a bit confrontational. If it did, then I'm sorry - that wasn't what I was going for :x so yeah, tone doesn't always travel the best in text (lol).

I don't mean to downplay her success but that first paragraph is wrong isn't it? Isn't someone else credited along-side her for music, arrangement and lyrics?

IIRC she co-wrote, produced and arraigned all of the song on the mini

I saw somewhere that states co-arranged with Collapsedone on every song, but she composed and wrote the lyrics by herself.

i hate when netizens call her greedy for wanting more for herself, greed is not necessarily a bad thing, especially when it's not being driven by selfishness, but wanting to be better.

cue to people hating on jyp for not liking iron girl and acting like he is the worst because of that.

They wouldn't - they'd give him kudos for being a true artist, standing up for his ~vision~, etc. smh.

I don't get why ppl interpret that there's strained relationship between JYP and Ye Eun. He obviously encouraged her to pursue her solo project and it seems like he was really pushing her to define and defend her choices which is awesome.

PPL- YOU'RE INTERROGATING THE TEXT FROM THE WRONG PERSPECTIVE!

seriously, plus if he really hated and was truly was against her vision, her album would never had seen the light of the day, they may have disagreed in many things, but he clearly believed and trusted her enough to allow her to do as she wished, giving her full freedom to do what she wanted.

People shouldn't hate on JYP for not liking the song. The way I interpret what she said, is that it makes him feel guilty, like maybe he put her through something difficult. In other words, he really cares about her haha.

MTE. It looks like he pretty blatantly said he didn't want to think of having put her through hard times when she was in WG, that's it. It was kind of sweet (?), especially coming from a boss/supervisor/???/whatever-he-is.

that's how i saw read it, but every time yenny talks about the album and jyp, people act as if he was the devil that tried to stop her album from coming to life.

Yeah JYP was just trying to help her succeed. It's kind of like a parent who pushes their kid in one direction, because they think it's what's best for them.

Idk I'm liking who she is as an artist.
Her performances have been interesting.
The only thing that bugs me is ha:tfelt....
My head keeps reading it as "hat felt"

This solo album would have done a hell of a lot better in the US than the piss poor material Wonder Girls received. But of course netizens will continue to shade this album's lack of smash success and say it's all because she didn't let JYP make all the decisions like a ~good girl~.

that's not greed, it's ambition to become the best version of herself that she could be. however, i'm glad she became wiser in the process and came to define accomplishment as doing the best within her capabilities.

Me? is one of the best kpop releases this year, and really establishes her budding maturity & voice as an artist. only she can know which path is right for her, and i'm proud of her for staying true to her vision.

Iron Girl is my fave song off the album. Wish the rap was better but song is seriously damn good.
And I think it's good JYP argues with her on the making of the album because that's why the end-product was so good.
That means both sides really gave deep thoughts about it.

I didn't like her album but I can respect her. I've been reading her interviews and her ambitions light a flame in my heart. I love hearing about idols taking control of their careers. Imo there's an air of genuineness that comes from idols self-composing/writing and as a listener, I feel like I bond with the singer a lot more knowing the song they're performing reflects them on a very sincere level.

I'm really interested by how she explains every song. The inspiration from Iron Man 3 is fun but the message covered is really nice.
She keeps talking about JYP, they mostly had serious arguments lol. But in the end he trusted her... It's all that matters ! You can be honest with someone, argue from time to time but still trust the person. Anyway, I'm glad she stood her ground, every song obviously means a lot to her and her mini is amazing.

About JYP stifling his artists, I doubt that especially since most of the artists at JYP have become very hands on in recent years with their material, now even allowing the rookies to get some of their own work in the albums as well.
