After showing excellent acting, Secret’s Han Sun Hwa has been cast as the main lead of MBC’s new drama, Rosy Lovers.

TS Entertainment confirmed Han Sun Hwa as the lead of Rosy Lovers on August 6. “She will be playing Baek Jang Mi in MBC’s Rosy Lovers, which is set for an October broadcast.”

Baek Jang Mi is an immature princess and mama girl, who grew up with no struggles. She coincidentally meets her mother’s friend’s son and ends up in a complicated situation with him.

Han Sun Hwa will be working alongside with Lee Jang Woo, who will play the male lead.

She is currently acting in the tvN drama, Marriage, Not Dating and will begin promotions for Secret’s upcoming new album on August 11.

1. [+617, -41] Her and Dasom after getting all that plastic surgery are trying so hard to get into acting with daily and weekend dramas

2. [+557, -49] Prior to surgery, her face wouldn't have even been able to land supporting roles. Now she's acting like an actress after getting work done and trying to get into weekend works tsk tsk

3. [+436, -56] She media played so much about her supporting role after getting work done and now she's going for a lead? She'll end up like UEE and end up getting nowhere.

1. [+13,976, -1,275] Another idol is a lead? Come on;;

2. [+13,254, -882] She's a decent actor for an idol... but not enough for a lead

3. [+10,470, -764] Please stop idols from taking leads

4. [+10,111, -643] It was so hard for me to adjust to her elitist character in her drama because I was so used to her babo image on varieties ㅋㅋㅋ

5. [+1,308, -86] Everyone has to be crazy handing out lead roles like this to idols

ehh choosing a bunch of press photos that are unflattering to point out her ps seems like such a cheap dig by you op.

definitely nowhere as bad as you made out.

i'm apprehensive about a lead role but it's not like that's stopped other idols who can't act taking on lead roles (and continuing to) so we'll just have to roll with it.

It's obvious that Sunhwa got PS prior (http://kpsurgery.tumblr.com/post/41679586261/secrets-sunhwa) to her debut and after her debut.

Maybe it's just me but her face is starting to look really weird, like kind of tight and lifeless. It wasn't so obvious in God's Gift I guess b/c of different makeup and lightning.

why are netizens targetting uee, she actually can act and aside from birdie buddy, everything she's done has at least been moderately successful...

sigh

tbh she's definitely not ready for a lead role and her acting is... not good. but yeah, give her a chance jeez. no need to slate her before she's even tried. smh.

exactly, people know her from her dramas more than as a member of after school. she's had so many successful shows. idg that comment at all.

She's like one of the most successful idol actresses at this point. The comment was dumb.

ikr!! along with suzy, i'd say she's the most successful idol actress. smh netizens.

actually, other than the original drama surrounding birdie buddy (losing airing spots and then the channel), the drama was actually a cable hit, being the drama that raised tvn's ratings and breaking beyond the 0. ratings they used to have, reaching to full numbers and having its highest rating at 3 points (thing that was more than rare back then and was really high).

honestly i don't get that netizen comment about uee when in the end all of her dramas were successful ratings wise, being the number one dramas of the time slot aired (way more than most idol actresses could say, i think that only suzy has it like uee in viewers), and she got a good following (unlike mostly idols, with her acting uee got a fanbase with the more mature public, working people and the ahjummas/ahjussis as well the grandmas and grandpas) but sadly they weren't trendy dramas.

ahhh i wasn't sure about numbers (it's so hard to find ratings for old cable shows), i didn't know the show did that well!!! 3% is damn good (most tvn shows don't even do that now tbh. jtbc's dramas do better numbers than tvn's most of the time). i wish tvn would get uee back, i'd love to see her in one of their shows + it'll be good for her to do something more light-hearted to improve her range as an actress. i really want to see her in another drama this year :( or a movie!!

ia, i totally think in terms of successful shows the only idol that has uee beat is suzy. even iu has had a flop, and i wouldn't call trot lovers a hit for eunji. netizens are young girls and probably only watch trendy dramas so figures that they wouldn't have watched most of uee's recent shows. still. the hate was unnecessary.

i only know them because of my stanning plus uee suffered so hard because of the drama that i followed it extra close, it's average ratings were around 1/1.5. ngl when i started to watch marriage not dating all i could think of was uee, hangroo and her not only share similar beauty types but their type of acting is very similar and i feel like she would rock a part like that. but sadly i don't think it will happen so soon, at least not when pledis keeps doing their 'sabotage' with her while she is in the limbo of graduating and possibly leaving the company.

honestly, right now only suzy and uee have steadily put out successful dramas, while the others stumbled a lot in ratings and/or popularity and public opinion. netizens just love to talk shit without knowing what they are talking about, reminds me of a joo ji hoon article where they commented that he was pretty much starving and struggling to get work, and only getting supporting characters, when that couldn't be more wrong.

not going to comment on the ps, but with or without it i just don't find her attractive. her face really creeps me out in marriage, not dating.
her acting is very bland too, but maybe that's just this character? hopefully whatever role this is will be more her speed and will let her shine.

i think most of the side characters in mnd are underwritten, so i don't think it's entirely her fault. but yeah, she is v bland.

color me genuinely surprised, to me as much i like her, she is no leading lady material yet, in talent or charisma, especially when she hasn't shined, not even once, with her characters, in fact people (the public) didn't really care about them, krystal at least has her heirs character to back her up (even though anyone could have played her).

She'll end up like UEE and end up getting nowhere.

BITCH I WILL CUT YOU AND PEE IN EVERYTHING YOU LOVE BECAUSE OF YOUR WRONG OPINION! bitch please, uee is not only the best idol actress (imo) but the critics and public see her as an actress and all of her projects were successful.

i know, i am confused about this too. i didn't think sunhwa was popular enough to grab a lead role in a weekend show yet.

yeah, i definitely think krystal wouldn't have got a leading role opposite rain if she hadn't starred in heirs. for me she's like sunhwa, absolutely not ready for a leading role. (krystal has more screen presence though, but that's about it).

especially when she just debuted as an actress last year, with parts that weren't remarkable at all or dramas that brought in huge ratings. i mean, if she had played a small part in the drama that stole the show (for example dahee on R94, it does seem all very fast.

i agree entirely, and i think that she got the part for 3 reasons: the leads they wanted turned down the role, heirs popularity helped and sulli's situation added the push, sulli was the one they were grooming to become a lead star, but that came to a halt.

well uee is good but she's still just a weekend drama lead material... that's like comparing soap opera stars to actual primetime show leads.

But weekend dramas' ratings are high -- usually 20% to 40% while primetime show nowadays suffers really low ratings -- 10% to 20% (20% is already considered very high). IDK, isn't high rating dramas show more people are watching and its easier to get public recognition with that? Or it only translate to popularity among ajumma fans and doesnt mean much? Isnt high rated shows get more money in term of advertisements?

Date: 2014-08-08 03:36 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tempestdance.livejournal.com
well the reason weekend dramas are high is because most people turn on the tv that time anyway. like the comparsion is completely different. 20% for a primetime is REALLY high but it's REALLY low for weekend dramas. primetime shows are viewed more relevant than weekend shows in general, and get more ad revenue. and yes, there's also that the weekend drama demographic is targeted towards women in their 50s and up while the primetime is for more inclusive audience. in general you'd never see lee min ho do a weekend show and if you compare the cast from weekend dramas to primetime, you'd notice who's more famous and relevant.

Thank you so much for the explanation. I recon the relevancy of actors in prime time show but I couldnt hide my disappointment when I see the ratings for it lol. I think the last time when I actually proud where my fave shows received high ratings are Yi San, The Princess' Man & Gaksital and that was like 2/6 years ago! OTL

Last time, it was pretty easy for Primetime shows to received 20%++ ratings but nowadays it is very difficult. Its kind of sad really since some shows deserved more recognition / viewers.

yeah people are watching tv less nowadays, not just dramas. five years ago 20-30% for variety shows were a joke but now even the infinite challenge can't get above 15. it's probably because more people are downloading the show or watch it through internet streaming :P
