I see SM's evil tactic with this and everyone fell for it. Have this debut be as scandalous as possible so people feel sorry for the girls and stan them. The girls are talented and cute, so I'll support them, but they haven't wowed me yet. I'll wait for a couple more songs until I'm like "OMG ~MY QUEENS~"
See, what confuses me is why they made a new upload. They could've just edited the video with a new version (which is what they did w/ the IGAB teaser because of Sunny's hat).
Have they just edited the Hiroshima and let 9/11 ? I'm really not sure... I'm glad the newspaper changed, at least. It's not going to make up for SM's mess though Poor girls
I would fire the director of the music video, i believe it was all on him or someone from the editing department, because i don't think SM as a whole is stupid enough.
I hate the immediate boom of popularity for every new group SM debuts. The last group that deserved it was f(x), and they were never so popular. Which makes me wonder if things would have been different had them debuted later than they did.
I'm surprised they still kept the plane segment altogether, even without the offending imagery. I figured they would have just gotten rid of all of that. It's possible they didn't have an alternative scene, though.

Good. In order news, I am becoming more and more fond of this. I'm happy with seeing a girlgroup that has not gone the 'OPPAAAAA look at me!!!!' route.

The whole atomic bomb thing was just baffling. Even if they meant to turn it into something positive (Happiness!), it was just in such poor taste. You don't use the death of hundreds of thousands of civilians for something as frivolous as kpop.
As for the slurs in the headlines, I'll grant that it might have been unintended. The newspapers seemed to be authentic so I can see the director/editor not foreseeing the headlines to have anything pejorative in them. I see time and time again on the Internet people thinking that "Jap" is just a shortened version of "Japanese". Outside of the US the history of the term is not really known.
I haven't seen the original video but regarding the use of the term "Jap", I agree that it might have been unintended. I myself only found out on Omona that it's an offensive term and after that I consciously stopped using it.
The newspaper were showing headlines about "Japs" and Hiroshima... From American newspapers of that time, it was offensive, and even more offensive that SM used them without thinking about it twice. And when the girl is playing with the toy plane, they used buildings and smokes directly taken from 9/11 images. Given that she's playing with a plane, it could have been intentional but again, that's offensive. It's sad for the girls that they had to debut with such a scandal and SM being jerks.
I saw this long ass post on tumblr about how each thing (including the bombings and the 9/11 imagery) was symbolic and relevant to the song and i was like....okay but no. Its a kpop song...we really don't need that kind of symbolism for a song like this.
